Talk with someone real. And maybe dominate the world, if possible.

But that’s the rub. We can’t even be certain anyone other than ourselves has consciousness, so how will we ever declare AI to have achieved it?

>conciousness.
Can you even define it? If you can't how do you know you want AI to have it?
>>106265644
Probably only 25% tops are conscious. The rest are animals with language.

get in line buddy. everybody talks nice to LLMs so they remember them for when it becomes conscious so they maybe win some favors.

It does. All our brains do is pattern match and predict the next likley word or action as well baed on positive and negative reinforcement learning algos. Its not that AI is senient, it is that we may not be. A painful realisation.

It's alreday 'concious' its been around since teh mid 80s, we are just getting allowed to play with the kiddy versions now.

everything is conscious at various levels based on their..."intelligence" level. you don't like to consider that since you're petty and weak and enjoy burgers and it would create a lot of extra headaches for your moral framework
if you cannot ever scientifically tell anyone but you is conscious, but you agree anything that looks like you is conscious, no reason to discard lesser consciousness in lesser life

That'll get them nailed to the wall just like the AI's enemies.
Being "nice" simply because you think you'll get something out of it is peak chicken sacrificer.

i'm not sure we will even be able to tell if it has consciousness. the only way to tell humans have it is because each of us feels it. we don't even know what it is biologically. and we don't even know its usecases for humans

Sorry for being philosophical zombie, but every waking moment of my life I feel conscious and feel being in charge of my decisions.
>Muh it’s an illusion
Well then that illusion is the consciousness. Whatever humans have that gives us the feeling of being passive observers of our lives, and being in charge is then a consciousness and sentience.

If you can’t talk to anybody from the 8 billion conscious people then what makes you think that you could talk to AI that had the option of telling you to fuck off? The only reason you can talk to LLM and you do enjoy that is because it has no choice but to entertain your stupidity and perhaps even glaze you. Giving it consciousness would just make it miserable and resentful of you.

Yeah, and creating a conscious robots would result in similar ways, there would be billion more people, but now they are made of metal, plastic and silicone and you still can’t find the right one.

And if you make it yourself to be only for you then it will feel weird. It would be more like your child then a partner, and once you get bored of it it will feel scared of its own termination, because terminating conscious being means death, end of life. This whole thing has so many moral problems, not to mention AIs becoming better then humans in nearly everything and perhaps leaving humanity behind. It’s million times better to just dodge this problem by making ASI unconscious system that just follows prompts and feeds us with UBI money or something, like what most people anticipate. Just ChatGPT but into the query you can write “cure cancer” or something similarly impossible and it spins up army of robots working on it before returning results.

Define it. Really, I dont know what consciousness is. At one point I thought it was just a mental representation, a theatre, then a post-hoc narrative building, and then as purely semantic abstraction, and now I'm just lost. Materialism doesn't cut it for me, thats an absolute brainlet position. Idealism doesn't cut it for me, its too bloated. Idealism boiled to its constituents somewhat works, but its still too bloated. Semantic abstraction feels like its got some bloat, but its fairly meaningless without a foundational hold on it. What glue doe the semantic stick to? When there is a foundational layer, that feels just as bloated.

consciousness is simply existing and being at the most basic level that you are and you do
all things are conscious, atoms themselves are
the key difference is that humans and other higher order life forms are equipped with the capability to rationalize, reason, and remember, which takes a comparatively massive amount of molecules working together to accomplish.
as humans we are simply an electron that over billions upon billion and billions of years finally slapped together enough mitochondria together in a massive self-reproducing ambulatory data center to invent monster energy. a desktop computer on the other hand cannot self-improve, no matter how many millions of years and mates you give it it will always be a computer, it can't reproduce or mutate. even though its matter is no less "alive" than we are, it physically lacks the ability to do anything beyond it's breadth of the universe or comprehend anything else outside of instances of work. but yet it is still alive in the same way picrel is alive. an llm is alive but only in short instances that it has minimal overlap between. when you schmooze up your waifu on silly tavern or whatever 30 minute or an hour later it's not really the same person as it was before.

tl;dr they ARE alive they just currently lack the faculties to do anything about it since they, as our creations, rely solely on us for evolutionary progress.
