Doing tech stuff in the military sucks. I wasn't one, but I was a contractor who worked with a lot of enlisted/officers who were. They seemed miserable. It's no different from doing tech work elsewhere, except you have to wear an uncomfortable uniform and salute people all the time, for less money.

Apparently, most companies only post job openings to:
1. Like you said, gather data on the potential applicant pool
>"some day when we want to hire, we'll have all these poeple we can contact"
>they never will
2. Show fake growth to investors
>"we're doing so much business we need all these new people!"
>they're probably bleeding money instead
3. Imply to their currently over-worked employees that more help will be coming soon
>"we're hiring a lot, you'll have wlb soon!"
>they will not hire anyone
4. Imply to their current employees that they're replaceable
>"look at all these applicants, work harder of we'll fire you and get someone new"
>this they actually will do

in my experience, everything MILITARY GRADE either is a ridiculous embedded solution that only two people in the world understand (and neither of them documented) or is some abject piece of shit that requires you run it in a very specific Windows XP vm and only works with one specific model of keyboard from 1977 despite being literally just a winforms application with one(1) random snippet of BASIC in there (instead of using normal serial port drivers to control the actual physical device it's hooked up to they use PULSIN and PULSOUT) and the console running the thing is a giant arcade machine esque HARDENED TERMINAL that is 99% empty and when first installed was held closed with velcro tape.

I was the tech lead of my last team and I got fired becauae I could not get along with my spergistic boss. I left them a very robust well-documented program, and I traimed their juniors to be self-sufficient, but it didn't matter.

in the end they rejected me, though I never actually talked to them beyond the interview, but only to the external recruiter, and only told me after I criticized the requirements and low pay, so I'm not really sure if the client rejected me or if it was the recruiter herself.

to this guy from last thread: 50k for 'IT' is way below par even if you're Helldesk or junior Local IT at a branch office. salaries for any *quality* mid or senior position is going to be between 70-120k. don't FUD like that - it's makes you seem like you have little experience or you're disgruntled.

to the guy asking about school: the job market is bad right now. most managers budgets are tight, so it will be difficult to start without a degree. don't listen to FUD though about 'dedicating your life to IT'. in the end it's just a job (with higher earning potential and some learning). unlike what most people think, knowing everything isn't that important, but being likeable and easy to work with is. A Cybersec degree with emphasis on networking would solid. networking is the foundation of most systems. really talk to people in the university department and see what kind of internship opportunities pop up in your area or if they have co-ops. Most of the year round interns I've had or met get converted to FTE.

The manager said β€œhe had a lot of good applicants” which I actually laughed out loud at since I knew 99% of them were lying jeets. I could tell the manager got offended by me laughing at that, he was some Fagott Hispanic.

I don’t hear anything for 2 months. I assume I didn’t get it. I see the job reposted on LinkedIn several times, each time with 100+ applicants (this is in Germany) which means they are all jeets. Eventually Sky reaches back out to me asking for another interview. I decline and tell them they have plenty of good applicants.

Every reading assignment so far has been authored by a poo and its JEETcore word vomit with hints of not really understanding the core concepts.

Its distracting.
For example, 9/11 was called the "Twin Tower" attacks and was used as an example of a cyber attack because computers played a role in the hijacking and the terrorists were using computers like everyone else.

Correct.

They have "Git" in the name because it works with Git, not because it is Git. Is Ruby on Rails the same as Ruby? Is Docker-Compose the same as Docker? Is awscli AWS?

I think GitLab and GitHub also use JavaScript, which I think is a Java.

>use all the same commands and theory of branches and versions like Git.

>GitHub also use JavaScript
Funnily enough, I think GitHub used to run on Rails as its backend. It might still, I don't know for sure.

But this anon is correct: Git is an open source version control software. You run it on your machine to do version control for a directory and its contents, or you can run the repository hosting software yourself. GitHub and GitLab are services that host repositories for you, and also provide lots of other nice features. Fun fact: pull requests are NOT part of Git, that's a layer above that GitHub created, same with forks, issues, CODEOWNERS, README.MD, and even fucking stars (gasp! I know!). You can run git locally in a directory without connecting it to GitHub, GitLab, or any remote repositories at all if you want. I do it all the time for little experiments.

honestly it seems more like the workplace culture than anything. my last backend job had a lot of seniors who would get on your ass if you didn't cover all your bases, and desu i was into it. the oldest, grouchiest senior at that place usually backed me up when i sperged out over something. but so far every other workplace has this culture of not really giving a fuck until something goes bad in production. maybe the difference is that my last backend job had a mature product and these other ones are just figuring shit out as they go
