I never received a reply for VALIS regarding the absolute state of his website. Concerned for his well-being, I installed Temple OS and used Terry's oracle program to devine answers. It told me that he did fix the file links to his archives, but he is suffering from a case of clinical lycanthropy. He was last spotted running on all-fours with a pack of dogs, chasing cars, barking incessantly, and urinating on fire hydrants. This would partially explain why he hasn't responded to my email- that, or he just hates me. Terry's oracle program assures me that it's the lycanthropy.

I've asked this 100x times but I've never gotten a straight/acceptable answer:

Is there a privacy focused/FOSS way to setup home security? I'm talking about those closed source proprietary bullshit apps made by the same home security companies that get hacked every few years and a live feed of me making sandwiches is broadcast for Indians to jerk off to for God knows how long. Surely there must be a way, right? I want to be able to install security cameras watch my house, and also I can pull up live feeds on my phone so I can monitor it while not being at home. But I don't wanna use a close source system where I can't be certain someone has access to my recordings. I've looked on f-droid/github and it doesn't seem like anyone has come up with a solution. It's 2025, fossbros, common let's get this shit going.

Anonymous No.106296576 [Report] >>106296984
>>106296380
Unfortunately, a glock 19 won't really help much when I'm on vacation and I'm wondering if someone has broken into my house and stole all my shit while I was gone, including the glock 19. I don't know why home security is such an afterthought for /g/, you'd think more robust solutions exist other than "just trust ring/simply safe/some other Jewish scam company that saves and uploads a 24/7 broadcast of your security camera feed to their servers... For reasons...". There should be an open source 'grapheneos' type solution where I buy the hardware (any old security camera will do), link it up to some kind of dvr/an old router or some shit, then I flash a custom firmware that also is able to be downloaded on my phone thru f-droid, then Bing bang boom, I have a bunch of security cameras that watch my house but the video feed is only saved by the dvr, and the only person who can access it is me/it never gets sent or saved by any 3rd party whatsoever, and I can pull up my phone and have a live view of what the cameras see. You'd think with how much the privacy community has evolved, that this kind of thing would be automatic, but it's like nobody cares, fuck it just buy a ring camera that's streaming 24/7 lol.

Just put an ADT sign and fake camera near your door. That'll scare off 95% of criminals, and the rare one that might ignore it, then you really shouldn't have anything of value in your home to begin with. I could replace the stuff in my home for $500 easy.

'Best' is a relative term. What one person conciders the 'best', maybe trash to the next. Also, /sec/ is a really big field, with many specialities, and noone here knows what your current skill level, or interests are. I would start by accessing your current knowledge, and then ask yourself what area of /sec/ you might be drawn to. Once you've figured that out, follow up with YT videos to help you narrow down your choices, then start collective resource. If your dead set on books, I'd recommend you do general /sec/ book searches to see what titles grab your attention. May book sellers let you preview books online, and this will help you decide if you want to get any given book. Be aware that some people who write books maybe experts in thier fileds, but don't have a teacher's mindset. A good teacher is engaging, expains complex ideas in easy to digest ways, and will employ lots of diagrams and examples to help visualize complex concepts. I think you get the idea. Knowledge of a subject and being able to teach effectively are two different skillsets and are not mutually inclusive, and then there is your own personal way of learning that is best suited to you.

I am approaching releasing a new FOSS c2 framework (in rust no im not a tranny) that is sort of like a mix between CobaltStrike and Mythic. I was wondering if you guys had any feature suggestions. Currently:

Listeners are plugins and can be loaded dynamically

Functionality (think BOFs) are implemented at compile time not runtime

It only produces shellcode, but there are no strings and it produces a different signature with each compile

Make a list of the things you want, even if the hardware/software is proprietary. Then, ask "can I make/buy an FOSS alternative that has the same function as the proprietary version?" If the answer is "yes", then record the steps and materials and code needed to create the alternative. If the answer is "no", then give up or find an alternative solution.

>I want to be able to install security cameras watch my house, and also I can pull up live feeds on my phone so I can monitor it while not being at home.
I'm sure there are many FOSS projects for your exact situation. You can use a microcontroller, like an Arduino or raspberry pi, and camera module for the physical computing elements of the camera. The body can be made from common hardware and 3D-printed parts. I'm sure someone, somewhere, maintains open source projects for local camera systems.

OpenWrt for Wireguard, and Docker:

FOSS NVR
>https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate
FOSS IP Camera replacement firmware
>https://thingino.com/
FOSS Android app for monitoring:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/it.danieleverducci.ojo/

An alternative:
>>106297491
Correct. Suggestion:
Loose the 'shit just got real' link - it is useless, irrelevant filler, always has been.
Loose the link to Stallmanu's facebook page- it is antithetical to what /pri/ is supposed to represent.
ADD a section for Thingino, and Frigate for home monitoring as mentioned above. If you do this, I will endevor to find additional resources and bring them to your attention.

Probably general stuff like books on computer science, networking, general Linux, reverse engineering, electronics, and cryptography. As for "Cybersecurity" books, I'm not too sure about any of them, since the cybersecurity field is more heuristic, less exact than the fields that builds on pure theory. If you had to choose a "cybersecurity" book, then choose the most up-to-date ones, as software and best practices evolves.

Not caring anymore is why you might be feeling stuck. I would encourage you to follow that which piques your interest, and get's you exited about learning. If you're not sure about a path, there are tons of videos /sec/ pros have posted about thier personal journeys, pitfalls, and give, not only practical advice, but great life advice with reference to thier carrer choices. I have been using cognitive technologies as exocortex to navigate through concepts and documentation. It accelerates and makes clear strategical paths to take and consolidate information but does not replace human work.

It is very interesting to compare the whole marketing machinery around the device as a consumer-grade product with all the marketing and pretty publicity and see the real, actual internal composition of the artifact. Literally sausage factory behavior. It is a monstrosity full of security issues. This case It's perfect for security research.

I will try to reinforce the router and see how far can I go.

I will set up a digital workbench in NixOS for good reproducibility seting up a well-defined closed work environment to study and analyze the binary firmware I have procured from the manufacturer.

My plan is easy at the moment, being able to execute a customized C payload inside the physical device. The reason I want to do this is that early analysis indicate the router operating system is poorly implemented as I am unable to read the TCP/IP traffic from it because the version of netstat in the system unit it's incompatible with the kernel.

It is worth mentioning that at the end of the day, all these network devices are computers people have in their homes without understanding they are just smaller versions of the ones they operate to perform work and make phone calls, but because they are little black boxes with led lights and perform only one task with almost zero interaction from the owners, we wrongly believe they are just dumb machines.

I know the Protonmail one, about revealing the ip of an activist that had committed a crime upon order by the French government I think? No self managed system is secure and even the ones we own aren't completely.
I read that the issue with Element is the image metadata. Seems it contains something that allows for identification.

Afaik it was a court order. It was international and there's a clause there that prevents the Swiss court from defending that big countries can use, so if one of the 13 eyes wants to see your data, it doesn't matter what type of privacy laws protect you if they make that specific request.
So it was either handing out the information or being forced to / closed up. Afaik they defended themselves claiming they only gave the IP addresses the activist connected with and didn't hand out any email exchanges or data (that we know of) but it was still enough to apprehend the activist and jail him.
Point made: it doesn't matter if you are in Switzerland or one other country, if the glowies or the politicians want you, they can get you and no laws will stop that. Very cyberpunk if you ask me.
Maybe if you move to russia or china and even then I'm not sure they can or will do anything.
I remember following that case closely because it caught my attention too when Protonmail and Tutanota were presented as the safe normalfag privacy protecting alternatives.

Oh adding to this, the activist wasn't also that clean. Afaik he has arrested not for activism but because of arson or possession can't exactly remember, it was some incident completely unrelated to his activism but then again maybe it was just an excuse by the govs to get him.

I remembered: I need a good VPN solution for my small business (four guys in their parent's basements, really).
What I want:
Connect external devices (Laptops and Phones) to my "company" network (a PC running proxmox in the closet) which unfortunately has a dynamic IP and I cannot change that (I wouldn't want a static IP for my home internet connection if we're honest). I also have a small VPS that has a static IP.
My thinking was now to build a "site to site to client" connection where the VPS acts as a lighthouse to the external clients and coordinates their IP-Adresses so that the clients can just P2P each other or act as a relay when that is not possible due to NAT fuckery (pic related, excuse the cluttered uglyness, made it in a hurry).
What I've taken a look at:
>Wireguard
Would be complicated as fuck to set that up
>Tailscale
I want it to be self hosted and every component open source, fuck SaaS.
>Headscale
They literally say they're doing it for themselves and to expect a shaky experience
>Netbird
Needs docker, but I run LXC on my VPS which clashes with Docker networking, would be my preferred candidate otherwise
>Netmaker
Not a full experience when selfhosted (every user is an admin in the free version which is just WTF)
>Twingate, ZeroTier, Nebula, Firezone
Closed source, Not self hosted or not wireguard, etc.

"Perfectionism" kicking my ass again, but I want this shit to work properly.

It's a loooong story from where I'm sitting. Old friends of this thread know it. The TLDR is there were really cool /cyb/ radio stations a few years ago - they've all vanished. My personal favorite was a site called '/g/punk radio' that was hosted from a Polish domain. It was more than a streaming station - it had a chatbox, the admin took requests, it was really comfy, and had real soul. I took it upon myself to fill that gap and bring dumb memes to bump with and music to this lifeless thread, in an attempt to give it soul, via said memes and other lore born of various posts people have made. I'm leaving out lots of critical details, but that's it in a nutshell.

Same. Hackerspaces (at least were I live) have become pay-to-play. $50 a month join after filling out an application. Long gone are the days where people would have local meetups at some restaurant or someone's home. People would make friends on local BBS, then meet up in person. I personally am in a very good position to host a hackerspace, but nowadays one needs to be very careful and vet people. Even the LUG groups near me are dead. Sadly, I don't know anyone who shares the interests we do IRL, so that's that for me. R.I.P. the good old days. I still toy with the idea of trying to do something interactive with anons here on /cyb/, but I doubt there would be takers.

It must be a really awesome feeling to have such a keen intellect, that you can accomplish nearly anything you want.
Daphnie Oram was one of the intellectuals who sees numbers, electronics and music the same way. She was a pioneer in electronic music when it did not exist, and was way ahead of her time.
https://www.daphneoram.org/
Here's one of my favorite pieces she composed and played:
'Daphne Blake Oram (31 December 1925 – 5 January 2003) was a British composer and electronic musician. She was one of the first British composers to produce electronic sound, and was an early practitioner of musique concrète in the UK. As a co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, she was central to the development of British electronic music. Her uncredited scoring work on the 1961 film The Innocents helped to pioneer the electronic soundtrack.'

>‘Absolutely immense’: the companies on the hook for the $3tn AI building boom
https://archive.is/0tgQb
>This year is forecast to break records for development. The US has about 20 gigawatts of operational data centre capacity. Before the end of the year, another 10GW of data centres are projected to break ground globally, and 7GW will reach completion, according to real estate group JLL.
This is all about commercial operations, but what about the three letter agencies? Surely they too have an interest in LLM and a desire to train their AI on vast troves of classified data that nobody ever had the capacity to review. It would be strange if they do not see this rather obvious potential. Yet where are their building projects drawing at least 1 GW?

I drempt of setting up some sort of site where we could watch movies and chat, like YT superchats, but small and cozy for the thread. Also thought it would be fun to setup some sort of network config that would allow exposing a real piece of hardware on a DMZ, like a Cisco ASA, or some other old hardware I have lying around and having anons come in via VPNs and go to town. The console output would be video streamed so the thread could watch some heckerman show us his skills. The equipment is not in service and I have factory sysimages to be able to reflash software. The successful hackerman who get a Deep /cyb/ Dominator Award, memes would be made to commemorate the winner, that sort of thing.

I even thought about a private Garry'sMod Cyberpunk RP server where the movies can actually be streamed, anons could just hang out, have fun, be 'social', and of course, there would be a night club on the map where music would be playing and anons just be genuine, goofy, and enjoy themselves. But, all that's really stupid, right?
Imagine beeing so nieve as to believe we live in a high-trust society. Imaging being so gulible as to believe that there might still decent people out there that still value human interation, and want to form lasting frienships with others who share thier interests.

But no.The tribe and thier cohorts have successfully mindfucked the entire fucking planet with psyops and D&C tactics, and the spaces where these types of things are possible are carefully monitored, and policed for thought crime. We will be watched, cataloged and anaylized. No real friends allowed execpt for AI ones. People have become zombies and disconnected from eachother, which is great when you want to control society. I know a very small nuber of you understand what I talking about, others blissfully unaware of the freight train barreling toward us.

>instantly see the solution and how to prove the solution, with superhuman clarity and certainty

>... and so am I
>return back to the normal me

It is hard to put the feeling into words, something like an euphoria where you feel and even know you can do absolutely anything, everything becomes crystal clear and all pieces fall into place. And it is not like the drug induced state of mind where you feel great but when you read your notes afterwards it is just pure drivel. This thing is something that works. Being my normal self feels like a huge part of my intellect is disabled. I know it is still in there, somehow, as I have experienced it a few times later but it is totally unpredictable and this phenomenon lasts a fraction of a second. I would be rich if I could bottle and sell whatever makes this work.

I wonder what it is like where people live like this constantly. Will they even be able to be comfortable around normal humans?

Security and also reverse engineering were perfectly fine topics here. The only problem was the career stuff that were essentially endless repetitions sprinkled with gatekeepers wanting to keep people out. We had FAQs for career stuff and self development but those were hardly ever read and definitely not kept up to date. The latter was a clear indication of career "discussions" came from fly-by posters who had zero interest in discussions but just quick ready baked soltions for them.

This problem was not helped when the Installgentoo Wiki came under attack and is now messed up beyond hope by a wreck on the very low end of the spectrum. The damage is too extensive to edit, I guess a reinstall from backup is the only way forward.

VerySimpleCPU. I think they produced few of them as a novelty thing but it is mostly an instruction set.
I'm not exactly trying to build something that doesn't exist, I'm just trying to learn by going through the recent historical development of computers. I will start with the chip and the assembly, build a simple language/compiler for it and write the whole OS.
My end goal is to have a program that can run other programs (the kernel), a program that can make programs (the compiler) and an interface (the shell). That I think is the most minimal set of stuff an operating system needs to be called an operating system.

If I understand the ISA right, each instructin has two memory pointsers, 14 bits wide. That is just 16K words, where each word might be 32 bits. creating an OS that can host a compiler will be a tough job. Perhaps Fuzix is a better OS than Minix in such a compact architecture as this.

I have no idea, but I did think of something else. If you take a quick look at Lainchan, that have a >tiny< radio link that's easy to miss unless you're looking for it. Point being that it might more interesting to have a site like VALIS.MOE, but the music streamer is well hidden behind an icon of a speaker or headphones.

Also, like you mentioned, there is lots of royalty-free music (White Bat Audio comes to mind) that's really good and I'm sure that there are others like it:

If you really wanted to innovate, you could allow people who make music here upload thier home made tracks, like /cyb/'s very own DJ Cygnus:

I'm still trying to get the song and artist names to show up but you can see my progress in real-time, its almost usable with some songs and surprises. Try not to fistfuck it please.
Do expect some outages while I'm working on it.
I will be taking requests but they must be royalty-free.

>I hadn't considered that angle. The US prision system is a basically a slave labor racket. Better to monetize over years than to rehabilitate in minutes.
A quick search suggests about 2 million Americans are in jail/prison. That is a lot and costs also a lot. With a custodian that adds time to the sentence for minor infractions, this can easily balloon to 4 million. And a lot of companies work on BCI for various purposes, probably not all are openly declared.

Tim Cook would no doubt see the business case and turn this into a major business case. The custodian would somehow be only partially removed after the sentence is over and strangely induce massive desires for the latest lifestyle appliances. Nobody would know why. Somehow, few would care.
Jeff Bezos would scale this up massively, and use much of the bane population as cheap labour in his fulfillment centres across the continent. Somehow, few would care.
The Zucc would take this even further and pump all data from the terrorized banes via their custodians and into his AI training centres. Mysteriously, the first few LLM issues would all be suicidal. Nobody would know why.
Sam Altman would muscle in on this, and open an outsourcing prison system for the rest of the world and have 30 million banes from all over the world under his command. The whole of Detroit would somehow end up being dedicated to his project. Nobody would know why. Somehow, few would care.
Elon Musk is perhaps the only leader that probably nows Eudeamon or has assistents who slum it in here. Somehow I think his plan would be the least evil but the banes would all end up on Mars. Nobody would know why. Somehow, few would care.

Ah yes, Palantir. They would put the people from Guantanamo and the POWs into banesuit. And 30 years from now, banes is the largest population in the Middle East.
What could possibly go wrong? Perhaps they could enlist? Seems oddly popular:

>Free VPN Extension Found Taking Screenshots, Uploading Them
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/08/free-vpn-chrome-extension-spying-on-users
>The extension in question (which I’m not going to link to for obvious reasons) started out as a VPN. Maybe a good one, maybe an iffy one, but just a VPN. It sat on the Chrome Web Store for years, picking up users, positive features, and even a ‘featured’ badge.
>Then, in spring 2025, updates arrived. These broadened the extension’s permissions piecemeal, pitching the ‘need’ for each new request as improving security and enabling it to function:

>April: <all_urls> permission to access every site loaded.
>June: scripting permission.
>July: screenshots, location and device info begins sending to new servers.
>July: encryption added to make the data exfiltration harder to detect.
>Content scripts injected into each website wait precisely 1.1 seconds after a page loads (making sure everything’s rendered), then a captureViewport message is sent to the background service worker, which grabs a screenshot using Chrome’s own privileged API.

>John Draper
>The allegations have dogged hacking pioneer John Draper—aka Captain Crunch or Crunchman—for years, but a BuzzFeed article published in November finally forced the aging Silicon Valley scion to respond to the troubling claims. Several victims told reporters that the revered phone phreaker routinely preyed on men and teenagers at tech conferences by inviting them to what he called “energy workouts,” where he then sexually assaulted them. Draper, oddly enough, admitted to getting aroused during the bizarre exercises but denied they were sexual in nature. The testimonials shed light for the first time on what’s been described as an open secret in the hacker community.

Really? I followed alt.cyberpunk and adjacent groups for years and never heard this. Just how "open" was this secret? And how trustworthy is Buzzfeed?

Let us not forget that it was known that Joybubbles was abused by his teacher and being born blind he was very vulnerable. And yet even today there are no stories about Draper ever abusing Joybubbles. I have serious doubts about this Buzzfeed story.
