SwissChamp is 8 layer, and the CyberTool L is 7 layer, but is the same width as the SwissChamp as the bit holder and driver take up the same width as the screwdriver/magnifying glass and fish scaler layers of the SwissChamp.

I'd say it's a very manageable width and size for the functionality you get. I love my Champ and I'm defo getting a CyberTool L in the future.

Bit overpriced for what it is but a decent choice. I carried a Recruit before falling in love with the big boy SAK. Put a pocket clip on it and the weight becomes a non-issue. Adding the little keychain loop with a SwissCard screwdriver threaded through it makes it easier to pull out and gives a bit of extra utility, highly recommend this combo for any SAK.

The scales are easy to change yourself, and Victorinox honors lifetime warranty if you have any tools that need replacing. I'd recommend looking for Plus scales to have the pen, and if you want you can mod them a little to keep two pins for example.

I need a multitool that can actually do work. The swiss thingies are for emergencies.

I got 5 multitools and 3 swiss knives. The multitool is always in my pocket when I'm around the yard of the house, it's super useful, there is always some maintenance, something to fix, to tinker, etc. The swiss is in my pocket while I'm at work (suit jacket, office work), comes very handy when you need a tool real quick for a daily emergency - from cutting a stray hair to screwing a loose screw.

Can't show you the swiss cuz it's a Tiwanese knock-off, but a high quality one. The multitool is pic related, by far my favourite Leatherman and by far the best multitool I've ever used, the only tool I wish it had is a decent file.

oh and btw if you buy anything else except Leatherman, you are a fucking idiot. They are so far ahead it's absurd.

It's a hook. It also bends outwards. It costs nothing to put a rear tool on Vics. Use your imagination and you'll find a use for it. For example Felix Immler used the can opener with it to make a makeshift smartphone stand, alongside other fun ways to use it.

That's the neat part about SAK's, the tools on it can be used in more ways than one. For example the corkscrew is great for untying tight knots. And even the SwissChamp is surprisingly compact and pocketable for the amount of tools it has.

I own a Swiss Champ and it's great to have but I like to carry my Ranger with me more. It's a lot smaller and easier to handle while whittling. It also doesn't have any empty lanes, every single one is occupied by one of the tools. It feels like the perfect SAK and all the other ones are just compromises to deviate from Ranger's design somehow. I swapped the scales to plus scales to get a pen in there too. I also have a tiny flathead screwdriver inside the corkscrew, like the Swiss Champ has.

The bladeless models are strictly for use cases when you cannot have a blade, like airports. There is no downsides to having two non-locking blades in your SAK even if you carry a beefier knife, though the entire point of SAK's is to have everything that you'd need in day-to-day tasks in your pocket. The current military issues have a one hand operated locking blade where you actually want to do heavy duty work with it.

91mm models are not meant for whatever hardcore bushcraft work that you need a locking blade for. Most Leathermans don't have a locking blade either, since for the most part tools of this type don't fucking need a locking blade, and people who obsess over it carry a fixed blade knife anyways and see SAK's as toys so who gives as hit.

Leatherman fanboys are some of the most insecure on the planet. They can't cope with the fact their beloved company is outsourcing more and more to China with the quality going to shit while Victorinox is still able to make their SAK's and SwissTools domestically, with better value and quality than Leatherman, and that Leatherman is becoming so shit that cheap chinkshit is of better quality.

They also have so little in terms of why you should get a Leatherman that they have to hyperfixate on it having pliers for Real Workβ„’, even though getting a SAK and Knipex Cobras will cost you less than getting a Leatherman, will take up less space and will be infinitely times more versatile than a Leatherman, because Knipex. A Leatherman will be bulky and rough around the edges, while a SAK and a pair of Cobras will be smooth, nice to the touch and will be very comfy to keep in your pocket.

It's not. Getting a clone from Ali is a better investment. Cheaper and better, possibly comes from the same factory that Leatherman outsources their shit to, but if you like getting scammed by trve American patriots then go ahead, it's a free country and you're free to be a drooling retard.

Yeah serrated knives are a bitch to sharpen while a straight blade can be sharpened with anything. A sharpening stone, a file, the backside of another knife, an upside down mug, the edge of a glass cutting board, the edge of a bathroom sink (true story). A serrated blade might last a little longer before it stops cutting but I'll take a straight blade every time since you can just bring it back easily.

-The metal file of the metal saw doubles as a neat fingernail file, and the tip can be used as a makeshift elongated screwdriver
-The scissors are very handy to have for more precise cuts, it's good enough to trim skin around your fingernails
-The pliers are extremely handy, used them when working on my computer to tighten CPU cooler mounting and to bend heatsink fins on my GPU to work on fan plugs
-I've used the reamer, pliers and screwdriver to re-attach a towel hook on my bathroom door and remove the old broken plastic inserts
-The fish scaler is only good as a ruler and a poking tool, good for pushing on the PCIe release hatch for example

At some point you'll find a use for every tool on it, and that's what's nice about the SwissChamp. It's in your pocket at all times, and it has a crapload of tools that technically you don't really need, but you'll find indispensable when the time comes. Though really, the little pliers alone are worth it, and I could live without the fish scaler and the magnifying glass if it meant having a proper screwdriver with bits in the CyberTool L. It's also cheaper to get the SwissChamp than getting something like the Ranger, then getting the Plus scales, the pen, the corkscrew screwdriver and the pin separately to "Plusify" it. And yes, the pen comes in handy as well.

Oh yeah, a PSA for SAK owners that still don't know: all modern scales have a pin hole by the corkscrew, so if you haven't already, put one in. It's a small detail, but man is it soooo handy to have a small sharp pointy metal thing on you at all times.

They're all useful, but overkill in most normal situations.
I personally keep one if the mini ones in my pocket at all times (rambler or minichamp), and only take a full size one if I'm going out into a rural area.
>I think I only need the screwdriver and knife.

Anonymous No.106332482

There were many difficulties during the initial phase of production. The first production models had stamped sheet metal receivers with a milled trunnion and butt stock insert and a stamped body. Difficulties were encountered in welding the guide and ejector rails, causing high rejection rates.[36] Instead of halting production, a heavy[N 1] machined receiver was substituted for the sheet metal receiver. Even though production of these milled rifles started in 1951, they were officially referred to as AK-49, based on the date their development started, but they are widely known in the collectors' and current commercial market as "Type 2 AK-47".[37][38] This was a more costly process, but the use of machined receivers accelerated production as tooling and labor for the earlier Mosin–Nagant rifle's machined receiver were easily adapted.[39] Partly because of these problems, the Soviets were not able to distribute large numbers of the new rifles to soldiers until 1956. During this time, production of the interim SKS rifle continued.[36]
