Currently running LineageOS on a Oneplus 9, but I really want highly reliable RCS for interoperating with normies using iMessage.

I don't personally think that the cat-and-mouse game of passing SafetyNet and rooting is worth my time at this phase in my life.

The fact that smartphones have stagnated and virtually stayed the same for over well 5 years now (I argue that a Galaxy S8 from 2017 still looks and feels every bit like a modern smartphone today) means that Linux phones have a chance to catch up. Just as Microsoft stopped innovating (and started regressing) after Windows 7 and Linux has fully caught up to Windows 7's level of quality means that the same can happen in the smartphone space. I'm grateful that neither Apple or Android-phone manufacturers are pushing the goal posts. Slowly, but surely, we'll have GNU/Phones that are feature comparable to modern phones.

I bought a fucking 1000 dollar phone and it doesn't have a notification light? How the fuck are smartphones getting so bad?

If I use the native Edge Lighting it only triggers once the moment you get the notification, it doesn't keep showing the light until I get rid of the notification like it is supposed to.

I had the Jelly Star for a little bit and honestly found it fine : it was like an older (2015-2016) motorola in terms of the OS and extra features.

Despite the crappy chip-set it was generally responsive without too many issues. No heavy skins, a few apps and widgets to toggle functions. I was impressed that it ran a mostly stock android set up, and did not try to copy the ( in my opinion) terrible notification shade layout of the pixels.

if the screen were 3.5-4.0 inches, instead of 3, I think it would have been perfect for me. I just send to many texts and emails from my phone and it was a little too small for that.

That was really it, it was just too small to comfortably use as an avid text communicator. Battery was fine, signal was okay. Android auto did not work with a cable, but did work wirelessly. The camera was okay, but struggled in less than ideal lighting and I am the kinda fag to take photos with my friends out at the bar or when having a night out. The thick rounded shape was comfortable to hold and feels more like a big pebble than a phone which is nice.

I just like my s10e, a lot. I think the s10e is basically peak smart phone if it were just a bit smaller. The Iphone SE2/3 is a close runner up other than disliking iOS and lack of drag and drop. I keep trying "better phones" but always come back to the s10e.

Camera MP is rather meaningless, and many low end devices will stick a high resolution sensor in there that has poor filtering and not bother to tune the firmware or software to compensate. You end up with massive MP, large files that are just blurry and grainy anyway. The lens train, OIS, and software matter a lot more than the sensor size these days unless its just a garbage one.

The jelly star is a 48MP, and the S24 I had was a 50mp. Both get binned down to ~12mp images by default but they were worse than the s10e when I tried both side by side.

You could have a nice lens train on a 3.1mp cybershot capture a better image than a 8-12mp Fuji without the same lens and software tuning.
