Can someone please reccomend a pure search engine that dosent use any AI or other "optimizations" that make it harder to find what you are looking for? Im really sick of how these days even duckduckgo has pretty low accuracy and how using quotation marks on Google seems to make no difference, all the big search engines seem to just churn out unrelated bullshit

I make LLMs summarize topics for me, and I'll use them for low-stakes searches like "What is Mickey Avalon up to these days?" but there's really no substitute for searching yourself if something is important to you. Both ChatGPT and Claude tend to have a narrative and cherrypick sources. Nietzsche could have been talking about LLMs when he said "There are no facts, only interpretations."

Marginalia helped me find an obscure webpage that seemed to have disappeared from the bigger engines.

I also want to mention Wiby, even though it's not meant to be your default engine. It only indexes old-school websites, and accepts user submissions.

I'm legitimately annoyed by google these days, when I search something and check images, when I go to click all results again they've put a big "WHOA LOOK AT OUR AI SLOP FEATURE INSTEAD" button as the first fucking option.

I don't want a fucking chatbot to tell me what I'm looking for. I've glanced over the results before as google "helpfully" feeds me that shit where the first link should be, it's almost always completely wrong.

Even if you got a 10TB disk, searching through a database this huge can be difficult, especially when you need to search by article content and not keywords. Search engines have good search algorithm that try to find the best content matching your query. But google has degraded it's usefulness by injecting incorrect answers or ads, they internally call this 'hacking engagement' because it makes you spend more time, thus earning them more money
