I just want to thank OP for doing the news, I love reading these.
On a similar note, is there an extension or something that can track generals like these?
Like, when a new thread is up it automatically opens it?
I use 4chanX for the filtering and some of its other features but I'm not sure it does anything like that.

I'm not aware of a feature like that in 4chanX or 4chanXT (but to be honest there's so many I wouldn't be surprised if it existed and I just never saw it).
That being said you can encode a catalog query into the URL, so for example
https://boards.4chan.org/g/csg redirects to >>>/g/csg which is just the catalog searched for csg. You can do that for any board and any term, I have that for a few generals to easily switch to them even if I didn't post in them, especially on /out/ or /diy/.

>you can encode a catalog query into the URL
Yeah, I do that already.
>there's so many I wouldn't be surprised if it existed
Same lmao. With /vg/ being a thing and how much traffic there is there I'm pretty sure there's a way to do it, but I never bothered looking up how (not sure how to even search for such a thing).
About 4chanXT btw, is X not being mantained anymore and does it have anything to do with Manifest V3?
I don't really want to set everything up again if not needed.

>(not sure how to even search for such a thing).
4chanX and XT settings are just rendered as text, so you can just ctrl+f it, but I wouldn't know what term to search for so that's not much of a help.
>About 4chanXT btw, is X not being mantained anymore and does it have anything to do with Manifest V3?
XT has been around since before Manifest was seriously discussed so I doubt that's the reason, I didn't follow it clearly honestly, my understanding is that XT and X have mildly different development philosophies. From a user perspective, XT simply has a few additional features, other than that they are basically identical. When I switched I just copy pasted my filers and co from one to the other without issue and clicked the usual important settings. Took under 5 minutes total.
My main reason was XT having soundposts on non-sound boards, it's not often but you occasionally see those all around on various boards and then it's nice to be able to see them with audio. Obviously vt is full of soundposts, but you also see them on /ck/ /out/ and co, though substantially less often.
>I just want to thank OP for doing the news, I love reading these.
Thanks for posting about it, I sometimes wonder if it's worth the effort if no one interacts for a while, so it's nice to be reminded it's not a waste of time once in a while.

You thought the antism was over? FOOL!
Another bundle arrived.
Antism related: see-through hose, water feeder for ants, test tube plugs, plastic bottles for a 3D printed bottle, dental cotton swabs
Non Antism related:
>Mini dremel
I posted about that a day or two ago, used it for the first time today, as expected it sucks ass. Don't waste your money and don't get it.
>Progressive hole drill bits
Seems fine, absolute steal for 2€. The ones in the hardware store were like 35€ or some shit for one. Granted the hardware ones probably were made from better metal, but for my uses that doesn't matter.
>Mini ant nest + outworld (1.89€)
This is where my queen will move if the water runs out in her test tube before the nanites are born and I feel uncomfortable letting her into a bigger nest yet. Maybe even with nanites as they'll likely be a little too few to go into the big nest yet.
Frankly for under 2€ it's really well made. 3D printed, sure, but you get cut to size acrylic, screws, a test tube with plug setup which includes a sponge strip under the nest for moisturization that I didn't see from the listing but is very nice, and even a red acrylic cover for the nest to watch them, so no need to buy foil yourself. The cover for the outworld is ever so slightly too loose, probably not an issue, but I'll use a spare M3 nut and bolt to fasten it properly.
>Automatic umbrella (2.59€)
Never had a full automatic, seems nice. The inside "bones" are reinforced with 2 more pieces on each side of them, seems like a great value.

If by ikea you mean the RISSLA, I don't like how it looks personally.
You can get a bunch of mats that are decent quality, the usual csg meme are the custom ones. You send them a picture (make sure the resolution is good enough) and they print it for you. Cheaper than the ikea one and you get to choose the design.
Just look for "custom desk mat" and filter by orders.

Seems overpriced as shit, but that's roughly the quality you get from the ali ones too. Maybe the stitching is a bit thicker on the ikea one, but both will have it.
If you don't care about a print, there's generic prints for super cheap available, though I don't think those are usually one color but have a pattern of sorts, and usually a gaudy one sadly.
Basically as long as it has sewn edges it'll likely be fine from ali, as for designs you have to go hunting. I'm not aware of a uni-colored seller (obv you can print a uniform color but that means you're wasting money)

It's less than a year old, so the data shouldn't even be outdated much.
We had a rentry for ages where people could contribute, that's where that guide comes from, then it goes as it usually goes and some people started vandalizing it so we stopped.
You and any other anon that wants are always free to improve upon it, either making your own or if it's just changes you can also send those in markdown format, I still have the login and can change the page with additions.

The issue is that everytime some anon talks about this, they never come back to me with anything, and I don't have the time to play shepherd and consolidate it all like I did when we wrote that.

I've been reading up on legislation about it here and it's not exactly illegal per se. I guess it's more of a grey area because it's not an official attachment, but so aren't many roofboxes etc. Would make sure its secured to the car in the first place.
It's not really obstructing view of other road users so it would technically be fine. I'm willing to challenge this anyways.
The more pressing thing would be GDPR and all that crap, will be blurring out faces and reg afterwards because don't care for that stuff.
Question still stands though, reckon it would be alright to mount it to a car? Official Insta360 accessory of this type is like 450 euro which is crazy prices

Fair, but that's why there's a navigation, so you can just skip ahead.
>I would put category, product with link, link to a review if there are some good ones, maybe a small footnote a out particular brands or products.
Product with link is a bad idea, because the links die eventually and noone wants to spend the time maintaining them.
Review linking is also not trivial, maybe via an archive, but those also go down irregularly.
>I might collect all my good shit and write a couple posts one of these days.
Please do, if it's in the right format (markdown) I don't mind adding it.

>is there a way to embed images into rentry?
Not that I know of, but that guide isn't on rentry. It was a disroot collaborative pad and was turned into a static html page when the griefing started.
I could host images on that page, but it's got limited space I assume and whatever it is that you propose first and foremost needs to be low maintenance, if not it's not going to last.

Posting a full review for the mijia hair clipper v2 since I had had it for several months.
This link is cheapest with welcome deal, others may be cheaper without.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256807353160945.html
I really like this clipper. The battery life is great i have had to recharge it once since i got it. Charges relatively quickly on a usb c charger.
The blades cut well and have never snagged my skin or cut me, i even use it to trim nose hair with no issues. It works well on body hair and beard hair.
On my face it doesn't cut as close as an electric shaver, kind of leaves you with the one day stubble look.
Overall im quite happy with it.
One thing to note, the cutting blades are removable (they pop out with gentle pressure) and the area behind the blades will get hair in it and need to be cleaned out occasionally so far I've only had to do that once but if you use it daily you might need to do it more often.
I haven't tested using it in the shower or checked if it is water resistant at all so I can't speak to those claims.

I have a foam rest and it's nice, but the foam has gotten squished and it's like a dirt magnet.

Wood won't be much better, especially if it's chink shit. If it's from china it'll be much more likely to be some kind of cheap compressed wood, not solid wood (that has antibacterial properties, unlike the compressed shit wood that'll wear off, sponge up oils and moisture, and get just as dirty)

Honestly might as well go for shitty plastic at that point, at least it won't wear away and look disgusting like wood.

The TS-I and TS-C4 tips. They work, are a bit longer than the stock Pinecil tip, managed to melt a bit of solder on a small component with the TS-I tip but I'm still a noob so I'll need more practice to get a proper feel for them. Also a heat gun, I need a heat gun for desoldering.

The KWS-2303C variant. Won't say anything about it's accuracy since I don't have any pro tools to check it but it works well enough.

https://aliexpress.com/item/1005008897701402.html
Again, didn't test it well enough due to my inability to melt the lead-free solder on a sacrificial practice PSU, but it works. By default it comes with a very short silicone tip that didn't seem to melt even after pushing it against a 450C iron. Comes with two spare tubes for cutting to size.
https://aliexpress.com/item/1005007462427540.html
Got the 500g/0.01g variant. As you can see on the image, the screen is ridiculously bright and it's precision keeps fluctuating when trying to weigh a needle so it's not going to be drug dealing friendly, but for home use it's probably an acceptable margin of error.

You really don't, though I won't lie and pretend a heat gun doesn't help. But you can desolder just fine with a normal iron and some skill.

Consider getting yourself a solder tip refresher (like picrel), otherwise the solder oxidizes on the tip eventually and it gets annoying. With these you just press the hot tip in there for a second or two and it's good as new.
With one of these you shouldn't have to replace tips for a decently long time.

>But you can desolder just fine with a normal iron and some skill
Yeah I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I just can't melt the solder on the thick ass power wires on the junk PSU I use for practice. I keep applying direct heat to it and it won't budge so I'm considering getting a heat gun just to be able to work on stuff like this easier. Non-leaded solder is a bitch.

Right now I'm looking at the Yihua 8858-IV since Yihua does some pretty good and cheap shit, and on Bundle Deals it's 85,49zΕ‚ (~$23.45) right now.

As long as it works for you, stick with it. If you have issues with solder not sticking well to the tip due to oxidation, consider ordering one of those refreshers, it's worth a try. Tips are cheap, but those cleaners last ages, so in the long run they're still cheaper.
>but I just can't melt the solder on the thick ass power wires on the junk PSU I use for practice
Thick power wires can be a torture test for sure. What PSU are you using for your pinecil (wattage)?
It's easy to run yours off a PSU that's not powerful enough, it'll still work but struggle with larger heatsinks.
See https://pine64.org/documentation/Pinecil/Power_supplies/Watts/ for more details.
I ran my TS100 (got it before pinecil was a thing) for multiple years off a underpowered PSU and always was a bit unhappy with its performance, only to realize once I got a proper one that it was user error.

Been recently running it off of a 30W mini Anker, but I also have a 100W Baseus that I guess would be the better choice here since it negotiates 19.4V and hits >50W while warming up. That or getting a dedicated DC jack PSU for it. Also, seems like the Ali tips fluctuate with the temperature quite a lot, sometimes momentarily jumping to over 10C. Not sure how much it matters though.

Yeah that'll fuck the performance up bigly.
I'd say 64W minimum. I'm on 72W myself (barrel jack, TS100 so no USB-C), more is obviously better.
Wattage is basically just the total amount of heat output your iron can do, you're artificially limiting yourself to less than half of what it can do with a 30W brick. Also keep in mind if there's a wire inbetween, it needs to be compatible because USB-C is retarded like that.

>I also got the silicone USB-C cable when I was ordering the Pinecil directly from Pine64, though idk if there are dedicated Pinecil DC barrel jack chargers with a silicone cable
The issue with USB-C is that the cable power rating is determined by a small chip inside the cable, so unless the cable supports it, it'll flat refuse to send the power through. Makes sense to protect low spec cables, but noone know what cable can handle what PD protocols, so as an end user it's fucking annoying as shit.
>and I doubt there's much sense in USB-C>DC jack cables
Yeah don't bother.
If you have a pinecil, I'd use the USB-C PD rather than a barrel jack, the reason I use one is just because the TS100 didn't have usb-c yet (it still has micro USB for firmware flashing).
Try to get a PD3.1 cable and a sufficiently strong brick. If you have a laptop, that can be a decent inbetween option, my laptop power brick is like 60W, not ideal, but good that's still a 2x improvement over the 30W. If you already have it, give it a try, worst case it doesn't work, best case it's enough.

Since we're on the topic of desk mats:
I got a 2mm thick custom mousepad almost 2 years ago (20 months), it was fine, but it had the issue of being mostly black and it started getting dirtier and dirtier, which due to the color is very obvious.

I'm also tempted to get something without a motif, I like a bit more of a clean look these days.
The two options that came to mind first were either a felt one, which I think would look a little more cozy, but be hard to clean and I'm unsure if it'll be too rough for stuff like gaming.
The other was some PU leather pad, which looks a bit colder and has the advantage of being easy to clean (just wipe it with a wet towel) but PU leather usually eventually starts flaking and looking like shit after some use.

Anything I'm missing? Any good suggestions that hit all these would be appreciated:
- "Clean" look
- Easy to maintain/clean
- Works well for gaming (not competitive, just the occasional evening sesh)
- Bonus if long lasting

Small bit of what I've been buying lately. Got the 8206 soldering station for $24 on sale and it's pretty nice. Heats up to 480C in like 15 seconds and the fan speed for the rework gun is controllable. The iron stand is also made of aluminum and the gun shuts off automatically when docked. Very nice.

The solder in picrel is garbage and the "solder paste" is solid and has to be scraped out and melted to act as flux, unfortunately.

The cheapo KZ buds are great as usual. I think I have every variant of the EDX line and the Dawns now, all for like $3 each.
The metric crowsfeet are okay but the standard ones are garbage, covered in part lines and thick burrs. I made a holder for them out of a length of 3/8" keystock with tapped holes at work.
The center punch, multimeter lead holder and leads, 4-way panel key, and long nib markets also went to work.

I replaced the thumbsticks and USB-C modded two of my PS4 controllers and they work great now. I only really needed a circlular needle file to modify the shell, unlike most tutorials where they used knives and dremels.

"Pretty close" means "not even close", and I was aware of the M6. Not even close to the G502.

The feature parity has to be:
-left/right scroll wheel tilt
-freespin scroll wheel
-two extra macro buttons by the left mouse button
-two navigation buttons under the thumb
-one extra macro button under the thumb
-all the extra macro buttons being programmable to F13-F24 keys

With the extra macro button under the scroll wheel/scroll wheel lock toggle being the one thing that I could go without. But if a mouse doesn't check all of the other boxes then it's not a valid replacement. Even Razer Basilisk doesn't meet the criteria due to the lack of the two macro keys by LMB, and the only other mouse that isn't the G502 HERO that does is the G502 X.

It's not what you want to hear but I'd recommend against getting any aliexpress pick kits
You are WAY better off getting a tiny kit from people who actually know what they're doing
Most of the picks in those aliexpress sets are functionally worthless and the normal picks tend to be significantly lower quality, so you just end up with like four or five shitty quality picks
If you get decent shipping prices from them, the only two I'd really recommend are Genesis set from Covert Instruments or some variety of sets from Sparrows

Spend and save or coins discount?
What's better? I get too much choice paralysis on Ali I end up having to take time out to actually order anything.
First it's finding the item. Then it's finding which seller has the item cheapest. Then it's the best way to get discounts. Then it's seeing if I need any other shit to hit the spend and save limit. Then it's finding that shit from the best sellers. Then it's realising my cart is now twice the price so I need to remove shit I don't actually need. At some stage I'll load up the shit app to see if any offers are on there.
And only then do I make the order and chances are I'll forget something or find something cheaper straight after.

from aliexpress channels or actual lockpicking channels? A lot of YT channels just praise chink stuff so you use their referral codes

A glance I took at a review of it cuts the 32 piece set down to 4 picks, one tension tool, two wafer picks and two rakes, so as I said with big sets you're buying a lot of junk you'll likely not use

Most of the smaller sets I saw didn't have the minimum of what I think I want (wave rake, city rake, a couple picks and snowman), and I'm addicted to aliexpress, so spending $38 to get 2 picks, 2 rakes, and a chinesium velcro belt pouch doesn't sit right with me (yet).

The Aliexpress microSDs are almost all either priced similar locally, or are scam cards that will be like 8gb but report that they're the real size. When you test them with H2TestW, it'll show you that you got chink'd.
If you're still going to risk it, look for proper brand names, check carefully as they like to make the brands look the same. There are legit ones, but more often than not, they're scams. Use common sense. If it says 2tb for $2, it's a scam.

Bundle is a scam for me. anon in the previous thread said he got the 117 in 1 screwdriver kit for $6. I've been trying to get it to show me this item since late last year. The bundle is always a bait and switch. It shows the kit for a few bucks but the actual item is some 6 bit set of junk. The kit is out of stock or over priced. Probably like $50 over priced.
Total ripoff. They've accounted for the price difference in bundles. The only items it ever shows me are the lowest models. Take that kowsi USB meter for example. They only stock the lowest model in bundles. The noob consoomer who doesn't know sees the standard model for let's say $10. They see the bundle "deal" for say $5. They pick the bundle plus a few shit items. Maybe pencils as you said. Maybe those are $2-$3 items. So that makes three items for total ~$10. What a deal right? Except they're all the substandard models. The pencils are what like a few cents actual. So the noob consoomer thinks he got a bundle deal for $10 instead of paying $10 for the better USB meter in the regular listing. Except the total value of his bundle items is <$10. I mean you don't actually think AliExpress knowingly operates at a loss.

I decided to have a look, see picrel. They are usually 115 sets, no idea how big the difference is to a 117 set, a quick glance makes it seem fairly similar in bit selection.
It's not 6$, but that's still a steal for a bitset like that.
None of the listings in my picture are some 6 bit set scam.

Don't know what to tell you, since bundles have a search function they're actually great value, before that when you had to manually scroll to find shit they were kinda bad because you'd either spend hours scrolling or give up and buy shit you didn't need, but now you can just search for whatever you want.

I just searched 117 in 1, seems to be a localization issue.
That being said, other than the amount of bits being really nice, there's nothing special about it, just search for bitsets and find one that has a good selection. If they have none, just get whatever is cheapest at your local hardware store.

I use picrel to hook it up to aux and power it from the iPod USB connector right next to it, but it's a bit bulky and I can only play/pause at an awkward spot. Would be great if there was something similar in function (aux plug, USB-A power, aptX/LDAC) but with a little remote control that could also send next/previous track signals that I could put in a bit more accessible spot.
