live coding is easily the most retarded thing there is for tech interviews, you almost never have to solve a random puzzle on a 1 hour or 2 hour time limit while at work, studying for it is an entirely different skill than knowing programming (so much so that people have to dedicate time to just livecoding practice AWAY from learning their language) and most of the time any real problem you will ever have while working as a developper will be solved in a few hours, maybe even a work day after consulting documentation, reading manuals, even consulting ai and stack overflow most of which is not allowed in these live coding sessions, why the fuck do they make us do something that will never EVER happen at the job you're applying to and isn't even a transferrable skill. its so retarded.
anyway i just applied to a job that basically asked me if im an expert on x programming language, i said yes because of course but ive only ever done kiddy scripts and those have taken me a few days to do on my own with heavy reliance on other people online to finish my projects, how can i prepare for the eventual expert-level live coding questions they'll give me?

i get that. fibonacci requires recursion or some thinking on the spot (hard during an interview) to come up with an iterative solution, but factorial? you multiply a bunch of numbers together, that's barely above hello world for a developer, come on:
int factorial(int n) {
int result = 1;
for (int i = 2; i <= n; i++) {
result += i;
}
return result;

I'd take it as pretty serious, though framing these things as the only important luxuries is (possibly willfully) ignorant of the material conditions of our present economy: you need these things AND money to live well.
Too many tech positions lack the freedom for self determination; you just do whatever pops up in Jira. There's very little agency, you're just expected to sprint your scrums unless you've had the luxury of enough self-determination to break this cycle.

Over a decade in tech, half of it at private equity in lead roles building cross-platform applications from scratch in EU.
I won't apply FP practices at technical interviews as interviewers are mostly brainwashed by OOP and cannot read procedural, functional code.
Any recent experiences, anons? I heard companies phasing out Leetcode because of increased cheating during interviews. Not looking to join a FAANG btw. Fuck that shit. I am okay making less money.

I have 4 different resumes made for different disciplines: one for web dev, one for embedded programming, and so on. Fine tuning resumes to get past an ATS seems like wishful thinking to me. Unless Workday's source code leaks or something I'm not going to pretend I understand which keywords are favored by their ATS algorithms.

You can use OOP in Lisp/Scheme.
(lambda (x y) (+ x y)) is basically a function.
((lambda (a b) (lambda (x y) (+ a b x y))) v0 v1) is basically an object.
((lambda (c d) (lambda (a b) (lambda (x y) (+ a b c d x y)))) v0 v1) is basically a factory.

Yeah, part of the bitching and moaning about H1B is because if you started school into the post-covid hiring surge you graduated into the mass-firing and not only are you now competing with senior devs for entry roles, but a lot of those "overhired" positions have been vacated and just replaced with Indians.
College doesn't prep you for corporate development work (most don't anyway, at least not undergrad) and people don't mind having to be on probation with an entry job the same way you are with electricians (relevant to
>>106340861 point), but the software industry has largely both "required" a college degree for civil rights issues (It became illegal to just IQ test people and hire them based on trainability decades ago because it was considered an infringement on black people's rights to not be judged by their IQ) while also both refusing to then train new grads in an official capacity but also not influencing curriculum to make the quasi-mandatory college entry fee actually prep them for being hirable.
Instead they'll still have all the training expenses by hiring H1B workers to fuck everything up until they get PIP'ed or the company collapses when they could just hire from their glut of new grads and get a better result.

It's just a corporate thing in general, people expect you to have experience in what you are getting into before you even have the chance to get that experience. The thing that bothers me personally the most is that they are doing this while their competent seniors are retiring without a successor that they trained to pick up the slack, which is going to have DIRE long term consequences. The thing I hear the most regarding this is "Then they should've done internships", but internships are usually full time where I am from and are lower paying to the point of stress being put onto students to barely scrape by, do basically full time work AND go to university to pass classes, all for a piece of paper and experience that may or may not get recognized despite skill level. The idea of the "entry level" is a misnomer these days across all academically inclined fields. The only one that "may" get by is engineering, but even then they have a huge crisis of old blood not even teaching the new blood.

The worst I had recently was a COBOL gig on the other side of the county. They'd done phone interviews and had me drive across county for the office tour/contract signing and rescinded the offer at the end, after giving me the documents, because I tried to negotiate the pay from 50k to 55 so I could move to cut down on the commute with a little more breathing room (they were located immediately next to some apartments in a town that was only a little more expensive than where I currently stay). Even after saying how their entire COBOL team was looking to be retired in 5 years and that they'd want me there for a decade or however long, they did not even counter a 10% base pay bump and sent me home after driving across the county and spending 2 hours on a tour lol.

If they were smart that cheap labor would be US interns to supplement long term workers. Win win for most college kids since they get relevant experience before finishing school and the company gets to select the higher tier intern to replace a slot in the company. I never see anyone say what they're applying for when they claim they apply for a hundred jobs. Are they only going for remote jobs? Are they applying for more than one job at the same company?
Outside of San Francisco, NYC, Austin, and a few other cities, where are there fifty or more tech companies hiring?

I applied to 100 junior positions with no positive returns yet. Experience required was 1-3 years for all of them.
For context, I'm a rising senior with a year of internship experience already and another 9 months locked up.
I realized recently that this was retarded because I should have been applying to student/new grad positions through my school instead of generally available positions.

Do not crash course
Just vibecode / use claude or chatgpt to make you an angular project
Alternatively you can follow a project from youtube and copypasted it
>re-learning java/python/C++
Do this just for leetcode/technical interview
The other anon is right, you need to lie. You will learn stuff on the job anyway, what matters and what's not.

White men have two kinds of jobs.
1) your dream job
2) job where you quiet quit
This process is supposed to put a drain on the shitty do-nothing jobs and then leave men to only do things they're passionate with, but we live in a fake economy full of brown people that screw it all up.

You can infer which ATS is each time by the url of the job post. Oracle has a type of url shape, Workday other, some are forks of another, some have corporate ladder bias, etc.
The HR hags publish (fake) jobs from the ATS "CRM" panel.
I applied to a job and put the desired salary lower than expected (90k), and the recruiter during the screening saw this as a red flag and not that I really want to get that job. Can't win at all

The jews made the indian problem a little too obvious and a lot of normies are starting to hate indians. In other news, i decided to give up looking for jobs and scan the internet for security issues because finding indian security holes is more fun than working with indians and having to smell them.

This is legitimately not far off from the bullshit they commit.
A few years ago Digital Ocean did a marketing campaign where you would get a t-shirt if you pushed to 5 open source projects, which led to Indians basically DDoSing popular projects repos with meaningnless PRs like adding dashes to readme files and other garbage like that. The cause was some Indian YouTuber making a tutorial how to make a PR in GitHub's web UI and the example repo he used got thousands of spam PRs in a few days. GitHub had to take action it was that bad.
