As a zoomer: it's actually the old gen X guys who were the biggest computer wizards. Think about the whole demoscene or early exploits. They had to write it all in asm. Millennials had it easier so they didn't focus on low level stuff but on Python and cloudshit. Then you've got zoomers. Most of them are cooked when it comes to computers but those terminally online with no life are some of the best programmers available.

But face it - it's not actually about the generation but about the 'tism. Computer nerds were always icky.

i hope so. and to be more clear, millennials were just born at the right time that a significant number of us grew up with a computer in the home. said computers were certainly easier to use than the ones in the '80s i agree, but few people had commodore 64's and amigas, lets be honest.
i don't believe at all that there's something special about my or any generation really in terms of innate capabilities, it's just a matter of what we were exposed to at the time we were exposed to it and how it applies to today. we grew up with what became the bedrock of modern computing, not the 8-bit era, not the 16-bit era, but the pc clone era, which persists to this day.
also i should add that even growing up people came to me for computer help. i'm absolutely not saying most millennials can into computer.

>there's no cope there, fucking worthless genx'r. your generation is so useless that all the other ones forget you even exist.
It's because gen X are seen as an evil generation.
The moment they could: they were murdering people in the 1980s, as young teenagers.
They also supported feminism so that they could get "easy pussy". They were "fine" with homosexuality. Their women all fucked "the band" and hated any male who wasn't "the band".

A gen X woman is the reason Hans Reiser is in prison. Their first God was lucifer, and their present God is Jesus (the morning star). Gen X women are, in generality, brash feminist whores, angry, and bitchy.

They think young girls are "disgusting", and "well used" women are all anyone needs. They gave their daughters to mexicans and blacks: while being ready to call the police on any white male in their clan who would marry them.

They hate YHWH and love Jesus. The Old Testament is passe to them, the new testament is where it's at.
They are the majority of those seething about Epstine.
Their offspring, Alpha, are those who took over Linux and Free Software for trans and feminists.
And booted the old Hackers out.

An evil scumbag generation.
Only the metal heads in it are any good.

Tech literacy has nothing to do with generation and everything to do with how you were raised. There are tech literate people in every generation, it's just at different concentrations. I'd say mid-late millenials and early zoomers have the highest concentration just due to the state the internet was in and attitudes towards technology but you absolutely can raise a tech literate child in current year.
Also, millenials have a pretty decent number of tech literates but don't pretend for even one second that they make up the majority of the generation. Probably 20-30% at best

I think of gen X computers being amiga, tandy, "pre modern" computers, but I suppose the 8086 instruction set is just a bastardized version of a bastardized version of something going back to the 70s. And moving forward in time, he modern intel instruction set is just continuing the same awful lineage.

I do believe the 8086 (intel, 1978) was a significant date since it became the 286, 386, 486, pentium and so on, which was quite a time.

The other significant thing was the first "real" gpu with multiple pixel pipelines (nvidia, 1998) and is/was a major trend

Pre-iphone zoomer here: A surprising number of millennials are not tech-literate. You can not like this, but it's true. I would say every generation had its tech literate crowd, millennials just had the most. However, I will acknowledge - begrudgingly - growing up using computers pre-gui endowed you with a connection to the machine that even the most literate from other generations struggles to achieve. I will also point out that boomers who created the very shoulders you stood upon have an even deeper and more holistic connection, albeit rare as that may be.
>Yet for some reason you guys completely fucking suck at getting AI to do what you want which I find fascinating
I routinely see even competent millennials struggle to command AI to create things for them in a week, that I could do in an hour. In a different sense, zoomers have a deeper connection to how the new machines work than you do. Odd.

Once this transitional period is over and the last traces of good tech are phased out for good, nobody will have any real advantage but young techies, who will most likely be infatuated with the inner workings of the new slop, but neglect to tackle the cool stuff that preceeded it, as it is expected.

A 12yo today just consooms brainrot and doesn't know, let alone care, about how it got to the screen. Now how many of these punks, even older punks like zoomers, would know how to format a MFM drive from the friggin debugger? and better yet, why would they even want to learn that in 2025?
