Run MAS via the irm command in the OP via an admin powershell, then just select the "change windows edition" option. Choose Enterprise.
Then after that, run the TSforge ESU activator and you'll be good till October 2028.

i have like 320 gb left out of my 456 gb NVMe storage but i constantly suffer from OCD since january this year, seeking out what keeps on taking up the storage using WizTree.
i deleted my games, got free 10gb, and then those 10gb will be gone next week for no reason
i moved my movies, got free 5gb, and then it will be gone too next week despite not installing any new apps
it's making me insane honestly
i know if i'm smarter and know how to make money i can just get a bigger SATA ssd since i have one more slot left but somehow i keep wasting my time minmaxing my storage uses
i wasn't like this when i was 15-22. back then i never bothered so much and just keep on creating/making stuff anyway.

I'd recommend installing Education through it then changing it to Enterprise then activating.

If you want LTSC then use IoT LTSC 2024.
IoT means Internet of Things IE it's the version of LTSC specifically made for shit like ATMs, but can be installed on a desktop/laptop fine.

People use it because you get way more years of support with it. IoT LTSC 2021 gets updates until 2032 for instance, though with ESU being so easily activated now you can just have 10 Enterprise or Education and stay on it until 2028 now.

Is it possible to get Windows XP to play modern vidya? I feel like it's the last good Windows OS that wasn't spyware, because it had the old control panel icons before Vista/7/8/8.1/10/11 embedded the control panel with spyware and changed the icons out of guilt to alert the knowers.

Can I get a simple explanation as to how I can create shortcuts on my desktop for windows 11? I just want to make a shortcut for 7zip and the only way which appears to work is if an app is listed in the miles long list of files and folders I can choose from. I tried to just enter in the filename, or what might be the filename, and neither of the things I chose worked. I looked in the task manager while I had 7zip running and typed in the filename 7zFM.exe, and the computer said nothing was found.
So what do I do? I don't remember prior windows operating systems being this outrageously horrendous, I remember shit being so simple as just right clicking on a thing and setting a desktop shortcut or dragging a thing to the desktop but nope, it's all "taskbar". I don't think I'm missing something, I think it must just be downright gay. It should not be this complicated and irritating, and also obfuscated. Nothing is clear and simple about this crap.

I swear to god Microsoft intentionally makes bluetooth drivers break to force Windows updates. This has happened too many times to be a co-incidence. I'll just be sitting there when suddenly my headphones cut out. I check quick settings, bluetooth ha disappeared. Check settings proper, can't connect to anything. Go to device manager, Bluetooth is hidden. Restart the computer, even reset the drivers by pulling the power cable - nothing. Still gone. Then I remember Microsoft's fuckery and check Windows update and what do you know, there's an update waiting to install. And then when I install the fucking thing, suddenly my bluetooth is back.

It was fake news that spooked us all.
But Windows may give your drive rapid on/off cycles once in a while because Microdick decided to set main drives to shut off after 1min of being idle in Power Options in Control Panel. Used to be 20min. So the new default setting will wear out your SSD a pinch faster, as far as I know, but we can change the setting back ourselves. That's about the worst of SSD troubles with Winhoes 11.

>Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021
A version of Enterprise 10 frozen on 21H2 that has updates until 2032
>Offline Install
Installing without internet connected, obviously
>EEA Region
Setting your region to a European one that has restrictions on what can be installed by MS themselves to your PC
>Local Account
A user account that's local to your PC and has nothing to do with MS accounts
>HWID MAS Activation
Activating your PC through MAS's HWID module, which is permanent
>Simplewall
Simple firewall GUI
>Group Policy Tweaks
Recommended policies to enable that stop telemetry and such. I like using ShutUp10 instead.
>Task Scheduler Tweaks
Same as above. Easier with ShutUp10
And personally the EAA Region thing is a bit much IMO, unless you already live in one of those regions anyway.

Adobe has GenP and m0nkrus's releases (which are pre-GenP'd modules.)
GenP lets you activate Creative Cloud modules fairly easily while m0nkrus releases are just scooped out modules made to run by themselves (make sure to firewall the .exe though.)

you can install windows to a volume without formatting it. what i do for people who want windows reinstalled (i don't use windows myself anymore) is i'll boot a linux livecd, and go through the "C:" and delete everything except user data, then move that into a folder that won't conflict with anything (like C:\Backup), and install windows to the same volume, simply selecting it and hitting next without clicking on "format". then once it's installed, i move the stuff in that folder back to their proper locations

oh and as for an answer to your question specifically, yes, actually, it is possible to mount a separate volume as your C:\Users folder. windows/ntfs supports mounting volumes to a folder, so C:\Users can be a different volume much like how /home sometimes is in linux. however this won't work the same way it does in linux. even in linux re-using a /home requires some consideration, in windows you'll need to use something like USMT to re-use a user profile on another installation of windows. USMT isn't a consumer tool, but there are third party tools that might be easier to use.

I'm kind of a pleb Anons. Apparently I have the knowledge of an 8 year old as far as computers go. Really all I know about are file directories, how to play games, how to browse the internet, and really, really basic stuff, but I was told I shouldn't know so little in a thread where, inan attempt to download a ROM file, I downloaded a pretty obvious trojan (not without knowing it was a risk, I knew it probably was one). I got rid of it, I THINK. Every time I would x it out, it would reopen but this time with somthing else, and when it would try to advertise features and shit for me, and it was at that moment I knew for certain it had nothing to do with the ROM I was trying to get. I force quite the program in task manager, deleted it, and I think cuts it off. I don't think it did anything. I used malware bytes and it didn't detect anything, and the same trojan virus I got on another PC from a torrent didn't end up on here, so I GUESS it's fine.
Here's the problem, I don't know how any of this works. All of these things I understand through what's alleged about them. I have no way of say, discerning what a good anti-virus is or some such thing. I don't even really know the point of selling my data or something like that, I just know they can screw up a PC and slow them down massively. I don't even know when I do have something wrong going on on my PC or not. I have 150 different things most of which I don't understand running in task manager. None of it seems outwardly clear and obvious to me. I don't know shit about CLI, and really overal, I don't have a continuity of understanding of these computers. I feel like if I used prior windows operating system I'd understand things better. Windows 11 feels like a lot of flash and pointless stuff slapped onto the back of soemthing that was once outwardly practical.
Sorry for yapping but I need help, but I'm just kinda lost and this OS doesn't help me. Most of what I know is habbit, then trial and error.
>>106473467
Honestly? Google is your friend. If you open Task Manager and see something running and you don't know what it is, google it. Windows has been around for decades now and it's been properly documented everywhere.
If you google 'totally-not-a-virus.exe' and the first result says it's a virus then it's 99% a virus. But if you get something like 'yeah, that program needs to run so other programs can run properly' then it's fine.
Getting into the habit of using a search engine is the first thing you should do.
Now as at how to avoid viruses, my best advise is to properly know what file extensions are. What is an exe? What is an mp3? What is a pdf? What is a mov? What is a wav? I'm not telling you to know every single file extensions there are since there are hundreds of them. What you should know is how to Google them.
The one thing you should know is an exe and it's the easiest way to spread viruses for the uninformed. exe means executable, it means it's going to execute some kind of code or script. Most of the time it's harmless but sometimes it can execute an installer to install a virus on your PC. So always be wary of exe. Always make sure the place you get them is legit and if you're not sure then just don't run it in the first place. Downloading something off the internet doesn't give your a virus immediately but running the thing you downloaded is. So if you catch yourself downloading an exe file, just don't run it unless you're sure it's safe.
Lastly educate yourself on what types of file extensions you're expected to download. For example you downloaded a ROM file. Well, what kind of ROM was it for? 3DS? DS? PS2? They have different file extensions and they're always never an exe file. So let's say you wanted to download a DS ROM, well they're mostly nds extensions, so if you downloaded a ROM with a .exe then that's your first sign to be suspicious of that file. If that happens to me I usually delete the file and never use that site again.

I'm not quite sure what the question is in here though. A lot of anything hands-on is just trial and error. The only you'll assure yourself it's gone is with a re-install.
>>106473779
Thanks. What about a sketchy website? What of sites that are real but try to give you viruses? For example, there's a 4chan archive site one which, if you click anywhere (say the search bar within the archive), a tab will open up, and the click won't do the action you intend for it to (activating the search bar to let you type in it), then you get one of those indian trojan sites. Is there a way to safely navigate such a site? Is that just a matter of having some kind of anti-virus or firewall? Is it easy to understand how any of that works? One thing that bothers me is my understanding of computers really is just seeing them as "magic boxes", I don't think of them as such, but as far as I'm concerned, they may as well be. The many processes that go on therein I don't understand, nor do I have even a summarized understanding or... a systematic understanding I guess. Like if you think of how these things work as a tree, the trunk is the fundamental base of it all, and then the ends of the branches would be all of the things going on on the surface. My understanding is all the way at the ends of the branches. Maybe that sounds gay but it works. I don't know at which point I'll stop feeling I'm wandering a maze, and will feel I can understand it better and properly.
>>106473946
I guess, but like I said, I don't have a systematic understanding of it. I also don't want to mess up my computer somehow by accident, if that's possible. I'm not a technician.

It's pretty hard for browsers to fully infect your PC. Best practice is to use a condom or some sort. Ad block and a plugin to stop scripts from running like uMatrix. Set everything to max, but doing so means ALL websites will break and just display text. If a website wants to run a video, well uMatrix is blocking that script from running. After that disable uMatrix on sites you feel safe on using, like YouTube for example, or your banking institution's website etc.
Then if you encounter a site that you can't use but don't fully trust slowly start enabling some scripts on uMatrix. If something suspicious starts happening then block that script again. It's trial and error.
Just learn those two plugins and then you'll be good.
And since you're asking about viruses and how computers work in the base level I would recommend you on going to school about it. Computers are complicated and not everyone has the time to fully research what each program or line in a piece of code does by themselves.
So yeah, get into the habit of using a search engine, use ad blockers and script blockers for browsing and go to school if you want to learn what COM+ Event System service is or whatever and why it's running on your PC. You're asking for someone to explain how computers work and no one has the time to do that.

NTA but if you want to know more about basic security practices then you don't really need a school. Youtube is full of great resources for understanding basic stuff.
I would recommend channels like PC Security Channel which creates relatively short and comprehensible videos about basic security practices and what to look for when searching for anomalies.
Thio Joe is also a good one, since he talks about all things Windows including security related stuff and also in a simplified way
I believe those two are good for what you're looking for, pick anything that interests you.
You could also resort to small courses like Udemy but it really depends on the topic you want and the quality of the creator

Been daily driving loonix for more than 10 years and it's been around 2 months since I switched over to Win11 Pro
Gotta say that things are way smoother than I thought would be

Gaming performance on nvidia cards is just hands down better most of the time on Windows. You can improve performance on linux with newer kernels and drivers, but there's still a noticeable difference. On older games it doesn't matter but on newer games you can see and feel it. It's also nice to be able to use Photoshop too.

You're such a nimrod! :c
You must be thinking of someone else! c:
I've spent so many hours messing with group policy settings and registry keys, and all for nothing. This horrific demon OS still downloads and installs bloatware under the pretense of installing drivers (that I didn't want downloaded automatically anyway), reinstalls apps I uninstalled for a fucking reason, changes to a different version, and does all this other bullshit without my knowledge or consent.
I'm sick to death of microdick deciding what to do to my computer instead of me. Is W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021 the one where you actually get to decide what the fuck gets put on or taken off it?
>>106478026
Unfortunately no. IoT LTSC just means it's going to get supported for a lot longer, it has barely anything to do with updates or whatnot.
It doesn't auto download updates for you but when you do a manual update, if it sees that you're missing a bunch of missing driver dependencies then it will automatically download it without you knowing. It doesn't download anything extra but still, you don't know what shit you just downloaded.
>>106478126
Does that only happen if I do it through windows update? Can I avoid that bullshit by manually downloading and installing those standalone updates from microdick's website?
>>106478308
I did turn it off. That's the exact policy setting I changed in gpedit and it happened anyway. Drives me up the fucking wall.
I bet they'll add a lot of great AI features in windows 12.

Yes, and I blame nvidia for this
>>106476999
>why the switch?
Well, for instance I have a gaming laptop (I know) with nvidia and it sucks big time on Linux although it has improved a bit with Wayland but is still a pain. Contrary to Windows where it just works (Not Linux's fault tho).
Now, my work laptop has Win11 which I can't change, and, I like to have my personal laptop alongside my work laptop, I use synergy/input-leap/barrier for input sharing and it just doesn't work as well between Linux-Windows compared to Windows-Windows (clipboard doesn't work under Wayland, language switching is problematic, and more)
Also there are a couple of extras that made me switch like:
>WSL
>bundled SSH/SFTP utils
>winget
Keep in mind that even though I'm daily driving Windows but my servers still operate under Linux and I develop software that runs under Linux

It happens when you use Windows Update.
If you use the standalone installer then it might or might not download other stuff, depends if the installer is configured that way.
You can't really avoid it on Windows.

Go ahead and install, but stay offline during the setup, and don't update after all is done and you should be fine.

I think that is unlikely. Microsoft doesn't fully know what to do with Copilot as it is, from what I can tell. Copilot ads I've been seeing on some sites and youtube pitch Copilot as simply an image generator. That would only entertain most normies for a very brief while, it is not something they are typically interested in much. They need to go for "Copilot-powered Alexa v2.0" if they hope to appeal to more normies. It is honestly a niche tool. Outside of image gen, writing/research assistant,, and programming assistant, it is very much "solution looking for a problem."
And don't post frogs like the shitposters.

Anons, please switch to PeaZip already. It does rar, zip, 7zip, Linux stuff like tar and gz, and more. No, I'm not some zoomer, I use cracked Winrar as well for many years since v4 or so. Peazip is straight up freeware, to boot.

Try disabling Windows Update service in services.msc, trying that as well and crossing my fingers. Microshit noticed that people are resisting teh updoots and they have been fighting back. Same with disabling Defender Antivirus. System won't let you fully disable it. I even nuked it before in a previous install so there would be no files to make up Defender at all. Microshit fixed it, can't take ownership of Defender's folder in ProgramData anymore. Fuck them and fuck their bloatware. I hate that worthless app that never detects anything and just hogs CPU all day and slows down my machine. I don't need it, either, it is ultimately normies' problem.

Through trial and error, I think I've found the shit you have to change to keep this demonic piece of shit OS (I mean 10, I'm not even touching 11) from installing drivers without permission.
Advanced System Settings has a Hardware tab and set Device Installation Settings to No
Filter through the Administrative Templates folders in Group Policy Editor:
Configure Automatic Updates - disabled
Do Not Include Drivers with Windows Update - enabled
Specify Search Order for Device Driver Source Locations - enabled (do not search windows update)
Turn Off Windows Update Device Driver Searching - enabled
I reinstalled winblows (again) without internet, made all those changes, connected the ethernet cable half an hour ago, and no drivers or the fucking garbage cancer "utilities" that get installed with them have shown up.

definitely, but hopefully only the ones that work out, I personally think stuff like AI search is actually useful, they're definitely going to get rid of a lot of AI features mostly because people won't use them and it'll be costly to maintain them, pretty much what happened to Cortana

Still a mystery, it's proven that it exists but only under specific conditions that shouldn't affect everyone.
MS can't find shit but hopefully they'll keep digging.
The safe route for you would be maybe installing but not updating, or just wait. If you're not gonna do heavy write/read operations like installing games, then maybe you don't have to worry about anything

I noticed that if you rollback drivers once or twice, Windows is less likely to install drivers that it shouldn't. Or I got lucky.
Enabling "Do not include drivers with Windows updates" is the general recommendation.
I no longer have the spare, old machine I had this issue with.
Need Clarification: is IoT LTSC excempt from the Windows 10 Apocalypse in the 25th?
Is changing the Version number from 21H2 to 22H2 bad for IoT LTSC?
