You obviously can, but I had a general incentive to go to college and I was genuinely fascinated by philosophy at that time. It was only until my 3rd year that I realized it's not something I wanna build my future on. I had some classmates who were noticably more passionate about the whole thing and are probably pursuing a phd there. God bless them. But I can't see myself doing that. I have developed a distaste for academia in general overtime.

Mental masturbation is not necessarily a bad term because reading and writing about these texts does actually train your ability in logic and abstract arguments. A lot of them are tough to get through, so I wouldn't say it's easy.
But yes the content itself seemed pointless to me, I never cared about ethics to begin with. I mostly focused on political philosophy, epistemology/science and some existentialism.
Analytical philosophy at the very least can be a good crossover to STEM because it has a lot to do with formal logic and some maths and is usually a big filter for freshman students. I remember there was a online exam on logics during lockdown and almost half of the students cheated by discussing the solutions on discord, lol.

>Not to demean philosophy, it is extremely important and we are who we are because of it
I would actually disagree with that.
>Get a masters with value. Monetary value.
Such as? I honestly struggle to think of any.
