Researching into the insanity of the modern job market and how deep it goes, all I can ask is a simple "Why"? Why is the stock prices of a company worth more than the products/services they provide? Why should an individual's purchasing power be lowered when they are the ones to purchase the products? Why can companies get away with literally offering no product or service and get away with evaluation? Makes no sense to me because it is very short sighted thinking.

What you're seeing is the twilight of capitalism and the dawn of something worse.

We don't build things anymore, large companies simply pay someone else because it's cheaper, this would mean fewer jobs for local consumers but that can't happen because then there wouldn't be enough consumers to buy the products being sold. So instead we were flooded with useless busy work jobs that don't really matter.

As a result of this companies shifted from providing a service to increasing shareholder value by any means necessary. Using automation to replace jobs, flooding services with ads to increase revenue and performing mass lay offs. Ordinarily companies would be worried that there'd be no consumers left to buy from them, but they found a solution. the real problem is the money is all fake. wealth is concentrated in financial instruments rather than money, and the "valuation" of stonks (and crypto and other meme items of exchange that aren't straight up usable money) is based on basically nothing. that one time cisco was valued less than its cash on hand, etc.

wealth has always trickled upward and power consolidates itself by nature but we're at a point where "power" doesn't actually refer to anything.

there's a reason that every kachillionaire is a doomsday prepper investing in lolbert doomsday bunkers for themselves. It's not a new thing because of fear of AI, they know that their time is limited and they're not just going to be hated, their slaves will at some point be physically incapable of producing the luxuries they want because they have sucked so much value out of the system that it cannot sustain itself anymore.

When recruiters search for promising applicants they'll show a skewed list that I assume have heavy weighted values for non-white profiles. The recruiters don't care, but LinkedIn MAKES them care without any input on their end.

I'm from India (I know I know) but it's bizarre to see how many american cos are setting up shop here - even more than before. I see something new every week. Just saw Doordash hiring for their engineering team in Pune. They don't even operate here.
This is with no changes to the visa system. Unless there's 100% taxes on offshoring, I don't see how this stops. They can hire an indian developer for 30% the cost of an american developer.

I have literally 3 years of experience doing just that. I'm unemployed atm, last company fired like 200 people at once and I was one of them.
I thought this wouldn't be a problem since my experience would land me a job soon enough but holy shit, it's been 5 months already and I'm fucking desperate.

No matter what I do, I don't even go to the interview phase.
They just instantly reject my application, sometimes literally minutes after I apply.

Idk wtf am I doing wrong. I'm almost pretending to be a jeet and asking for just 3$ /hr, Yes I'm that desperate. Every single penny is currently being funneled to support my father and I'm eating half a ramen per meal for the last month since there's no cash anymore, all my savings are gone.

This and also let's not pretend that Silicon Valley is super conservative, a lot of tech has been very liberal/Dem leading and got the rug pulled out from under their noses.

I just have 27 and half more classes until I get my cs bs from wgu and will land a job making 60k in 2 or 3 months and can finally move out... I already made a text based adventure game in python, a flashcard program in java, and I know how to subnet (with ipv4 anyway) and you want cat6 utp (stp if there's a lot of emi) and also transmission control protocol and all those other protocols that do stuff and OSI 7 layers. Segment > Packet > Frame > Bits. Going to be on comfy street soon bros.....

Dude. I was born in 1980, have a CS BS class of '18 and have never held any form of employment. Autism is a helluva drug. Work is like an anthropology study of an alien culture that I can only hypothesize upon from afar making theories like normies apparently need to have a record of unskilled work even to use a degree. Very strange.

Would you take a job paying 150k and fully remote or 250k in the office 5 days a week?

Graduating with a CS degree soon. In my late 20s. Why am I a retard. It was between this or EE, and I chose the unemployment degree.

I don't see how EE is good. At my company I see fresh grad American CS majors being hired. EE hiring is 60 year old Indian/Chinese men.

Can confirm, anything in the real engineering fields aren't hiring either unless if you an old fart. The next few years are going to be interesting with seniors in STEM retiring without passing on their knowledge to the next generation.

250k. leaving money on the table during peak wealth building years seems stupid
