For all its flaws, the content on the page was useful, the ad didn't make the page unusable, and 1 minute of page loading is still faster than 2 minutes of forced ads before you can watch your video with 1 minute of stuff that answers your question but has been padded out to 10 minutes with bullshit waffling so it's eligible to show longer forced ads on.

I think this website is one of the few remaining remnants of the old internet, but even then it's not really because the user base has changed so much.

And on that note, camwhores existed even in 2000, before twitch/onlyfans. You just had to install some Flash or Realplayer plugin for the video streaming, and the videos were maybe 10fps at most.

a lot of early live cam feeds were not using video at all, rather an auto-refreshing page with a jpeg of the current frame. not even a frame per second. this was necessary because even 10fps video over typical dial up connections was so poor in quality as to not be worth it for just about anything. with a jpeg every few seconds you could at least have a decent 640x480 picture each time. especially since we're talking about just viewing a camera and not real-time two-way communication

i got on the internet in 1999, so i only heard of this a bit later. i didn't watch her stream. she's known for being one of the first internet streamers of someone's daily life, reality tv style.
i don't know exactly when i heard of it, but such a thing wouldn't have been something i would have been interested in watching for more than a minute anyway. i remember watching random webcams from around the world though, like public cameras looking at streets and beaches and from lookouts and the like. pretty cool seeing other places in real-time like that, knowing that the people walking around in them are actually there doing that right this moment thousands of kilometres away

Yes, things are different today. In the past, you had a website where you could get the right crack for every game without worrying about malwareβ€”there used to be a code of ethics among people.
The internet was much less antisocial; that only came with the normies.

Yeah, I remember those self-refreshing jpegs, but that's not what I meant. There were actual camsluts with chat rooms using early real-time videos. Yes, they had awful low bit rates so they barely qualified as videos, but they existed.
