THE BEST LINUX DISTRO FOR REPLACING WINDOWS IS...
>revives your old PC

Is Linux Mint the best Linux distro for replacing Windows, /g/?
I think it is.

i have tried to convert people i know, but the truth is most people dont care about their operating systems. they just want to run gaymes or browse the internet. steve jobs was right, if the end user sees a terminal you have failed. this is the way most people see it, and even using linux mint you will have to use a command line at some point. windows even provides tools like regedit so you never have to open cmd. linux will never be replacing windows for this reason, and maybe that is a good thing.

Debian is a good distro, Ubuntu is corporate crap. Mint is built on top of Ubuntu and pretends very hard to be a distro when it's actually just a desktop environment (a good DE but it's written in javascript yikes) with only like 10 developers behind it who don't do a very good job on the distro side of things. Debian on the other hand is 1000+ devs

Ubuntu sucks because of snaps and I wouldn't recommend it for most people I agree.
But at least Mint comes with all the tools you need to manage your system through GUI without ever having to open a terminal, which is better for people coming from Windows.
Cinnamon is also much better than the stock Windows experience while having very sane defaults and plenty of customisation.

Crashes in general I'd even say I've felt more far and between on linux than windows 11 enterprise. And when a kernel panic happened it was usually when the machine was shutting down at least while windows blue screens I've had more during actual work.

I wanted a Linux distro for a bootable USB OS-on-a-stick sort of thing. I have a ThinkPad so hardware support shouldn't be an issue.

I tried MX Linux at first because people were raving about how it maximizes flash drive life. What I got was a half-working desktop where sound and the mouse weren't working at all, and changes weren't persisted despite me explicitly selecting that option.

I then installed Linux Mint and everything just fucking werked out of the box, first try. I was amazed. It isn't optimized for flash drive writes but I only plan to use it occasionally.

The only difference between Ubuntu's GNOME and Mint's Cinnamon is that Ubuntu's dock/taskbar solution is on the left. Everything else is practically identical or superior, less bloated, less confusing, and is maintained by professional employees and has security CVEs unlike meme distros like Mint. There's a reason normal employed people use Ubuntu, while every single neet or tranny social outcast retard on 4chan or reddit shills shit like Mint, CachyOS, Nobara, Zorin, Arch, Artix, Void, Nix, or some other irrelevant shitstro maintained by a couple of pedos in Pakistan.

When i switched from Windows a few years ago, Mint was the distro that gave me a familiar experience and held my hand enough so I could learn how things worked without breaking my system or losing files.

Unironically, the best thing about Mint is the setup process that guides you through customizing, drivers, updates, firewall, and most critically setting up timeshift so if you do something stupid you can just roll back to before you did it.

Now that it's been a few years I don't use Mint anymore because I understand how linux works. I can use the terminal and I like a tiling window manager and all of that, but Mint was the bridge I needed to get to where I am now.

My Mom's Win10 laptop can't upgrade, so I switched her to Mint literally yesterday, sat her down in front of the computer and told her to go exploring. In about 5 minutes she was smiling and excited, she understood how to do the things she wanted to do, and she loves how simple and uncluttered it is.

TLDR: Mint is an awesome distro.

Mint has no security CVE's, you spend most of your time interacting with Mint packages, like Firefox, Cinnamon DE programs, all of which are not contributed to by Ubuntu programmers and maintainers. Mint has no security CVEs and is maintained by a few anons on github. You would get fired on the spot if you put it on computers of any company. It's objectively a security risk with no security standards.
>>106864988
Why would I do that? It didn't support even secure boot out of the box last time I tried it, and it still required you to do cli upgrades, and put most emphasis on the stable repos which become ancient too fast. Linux is shit over all, but Ubuntu LTS is as close as you can get to a usable system.

I would actually love for a proper user friendly linux based system to make it big with the normies to give microsoft some actual competition (mac doesn't count, that is overpriced hipster slop). But as long as linux fanboys sincerely believe that forcing the user to use a command terminal in 2025 for anything more complicated than watching youtube videos is good design it will never happen.

Also
>regedit
90% of windows users don't even know that program exists, and the other 10% almost never use it. Hell most windows users barely even know how to use control panel. That is the mass audience you should be making your distro for if you want to put a serious challenge to microsoft.

So people just kinda trust it out of the box, same with IOS/Mac though in that case it's the luxury brand even though it's probably the worst OS out of all of them kek
