At least Linus didn't get blinded by the money, many do, look at Veritasium or Economics Explained, both sold to private equity.
He probably kept the video producing routine of the earlier days of the channel, which wasn't a bad idea from a business standpoint (if it ain't broke don't fix it kind of thinking), if we want to be conspiratorial, the private equity guys caught Linus lacking in some reviews, whispered in the ear of Steve and shit got over the top. Possible and reasonable.
Either way, Linus got caught with the pants down and the corpo atmosphere must have only worsened the reaction to the scandal.
