There is no conclusive evidence for what the cause is yet. Zen 5 and the 9800X3D in particular have sold very well and most people haven't had any issues. It's possible there was a bad batch of processors and ASRock motherboards have BIOS settings that are worsening the problem, or the fault may entirely be with ASRock, there isn't enough information to make any kind of conclusion yet. For now just avoid ASRock boards to be safe and you will likely be fine like the thousands of other people who have bought and used these CPUs for months with no problem.

However we do know that most of that is consumed while under stress, the energy expenditure while idle is probably not that much higher but it will be higher
You can always check the listed power needed for a piece on its specs and you will see how similar cpu might use 50 extra W randomly

How important is having an ATX 3.1 ceritified PSU for a 5090? Will my connectors really be more likely to burn if I go with a 3.0?
I'm specifically looking at these two models of the corsair HX1200i and that's the only difference I'm seeing.

The only physical difference that matters to a user is 3.1 has shorter sense pins for checking whether the plug is all the way in or not. Just make sure you don't butterfinger the power plug and accidentally pull it loose, then there's really no difference in having a 3.0.

But a newer model may or may not have other iterations and improvements in the electrical design that you can't see. I'd always buy the newest just in case unless it is that much more expensive.

The Tomahawks have no bad lane sharing for AM5 so it will only affect very specific setups which are trying to use everything, but the 870 is expensive and you should only consider it if you want the LED digit display.

Nah USB audio has to be extremely low latency or you'd hear crackles and cutouts in the audio. It's actually the Windows OS and Game Engines that are the real source of audio latency (a USB DAC typically operates in ASIO or WASAPI mode to bypass this).

Apart from having Wifi 7 vs 6E, the only other difference is the B850 AORUS ELITE ups the VRM design from 12x On Semiconductor NCP302155 55A MOSFETs to 14x OnSemi 55A DrMOS MOSFETs (in parallel) both of which are overkill for any CPU you could possibly stick in there. I still maintain that the $160 is more than sufficient, but you're attracted to the higher-priced option then I do recommend the B850 MAG Tomahawk as it's basically the same board but with an extra NVME slot for $10 more.

Fuck no, even a 5090 is barely affected running only 1-4% slower when capped at Gen 3 (THREE!!!) speeds. So any less powerful card than that bound by less constraint would have margin of error differences.

If you use B850/B650 instead of X670/X870E your power draw will get slightly lower. Because you basically have two glued chipsets instead of one.

When the expectation is that every single pixel rendered is 1/4 inch wide, you're kind of supposed to see every single fucking pixel and at 160+ PPI, that's kind of near the limit of comfortable viewing for someone with perfect vision.

If you use 200% DPI scaling to emulate a "1080p" but crisper, higher res font, HiDPI screen or simply gaming with games that scale properly it's good.
If you intend to read bitmap fonts at 8pt on native res 1:1 mapping with pixel wide fonts you might find it difficult to use, but don't be discouraged. Integer scaling works great and that means you can do a virtual 1080p desktop with no drawbacks and then game or run certain programs at 4K that scale well to reap the benefits of higher res when available.

The only scaling worth using is integer based, 200%, 300%, or 400%. For 4K, you'd be 200% 1080p or 300% 720p. Fonts will be crisper but you just have to pay attention to the real-world expected output size of UI elements and fonts. 4K 27" is arguably too big if you want to use scaling (should do 22" 4k @ 200% or so) or too small if you want to do 100% scaling and expect to read everything.

If the use case is purely gaming or viewing photographs or media, 4K is needed for good visuals, even if it's a 6" screen. That doesn't mean you should run a desktop Windows OS on 4K 6" where it assumes you'll be able to see (and count and mouse-over) each individual pixel though.

For HiDPI displays your target should be 200 PPI. 4K 27" is only 163. It exists in the middle of both typical use cases. It has its uses, but it's a bit niche. 32" 4K is probably going to be more comfortable at 100% scaling.
