And now I'm getting a daily meeting with my manager as well to "touch base" on my ongoing tasks. This is getting out of hand. At the same time he asked me to flesh my weekly reports even more, outlining what I did every hour and what was the outcome.

As he's my new manager and I do what he tells me to do as part of my contract, there is not much "push back" as I would do as a normal employee. My only tools are the following, either:

Any embedded systems devs here? Do you have any tips on how to break into embedded? I've been a backend dev (java) for ~2 years but working on web apps is genuinely soul-crushing. The only reason I even have this job is because I couldn't even land any interviews for a junior embedded position a couple of years ago. I can handle myself well in C (C++ too, but I like C more). Mine doesn't really but it's annoying always hearing "We're looking to get you a position/salary bump" every once in a while and then quiet. I'd be honestly less mad if they just didn't mention it. I took a job "programming" web surveys to get some real work experience a few years back. It pays around 65k Leafbucks and I "program" about 5-10 surveys a week. The official hours are 9-5pm but since there's only 2 programmers in the entire company and 6 project managers that send our questions back and forth to clients. There's a lot of work funneling down to a few people. In a typical week I need to work 9-9-6 to keep up with the workload.

I even took the initiative to work on other projects (data visualization, reports, etc.) at work but my experience falls short of real engineering.

On the plus side you need to speak French to program half of our surveys so it's unlikely to be outsourced. Half the instructions in a 20 page French questionnaire document contradict each other. I was able to solve leetcode hards when I graduated uni but didn't land any interviews with companies that asked difficult technical interviews.

How over is it? Should I try to do something else with my life?

PowerShell is super easy to work with, I came to him regarding that specific script for two reasons 1) he claimed to have lots of experience with it, decades of experience in IT, and considered himself to be a SME. I had an interview with the recruiter, an interview with two L2 analysts, and a final interview with 2 managers. Each interview was about a week apart from each other and the final interview was 11 days ago. I emailed the recruiter 2 days ago asking if there were any updates and got no reply.
