On a related note, has anyone started using jpegli for personal use yet? Like it's a pretty solid competitor to Webp IMHO.

Don’t use it.
It was a patent trolling idea from google to buy On2 release on2 “for free” and then, years later, “find” a new patent and shake-down companies for it.
It’s a stupid plan that’s as old as the hills, and we saw through it immediately.

You’d be better off using .gif as it’s off patent now.
We used to use .gif in the olden days when computers were small and slow, encoding/decoding is trivial and good enough for, say, cell shaded things.
