Using chatbots in ST only compels me to write stories and drawn-out narratives so it kind of gets boring after a while. I need an immersive visual format like a video game to make me feel like I'm actually interacting with people rather than characters. And not just a lazy chat interface when you click on a character, but one that keeps track of the character's details like their clothing, weapons, or quests completed so that they speak to you with all of that context in mind.

One thing I've played with is having every message end on a massive stats block keeping track of everything I want to be tracked, but using a regex to only include in the prompt the stats block in the bot's latest message. See the screenshot for the regex settings.

That said, I feel like SOTA models are able to keep track of a lot of things over really long periods of time nowadays. I've gone up to 80k tokens without summarizing with good detail recall. But if you want to go even longer I'd say with Gemini 2.5 Pro at least you should generate a long summary at the 30k token mark, otherwise the summary will be too compact. I just use a prompt like this:

I guess I roleplay with AI so infrequently nowadays that this isn't a problem to me. I don't even use presets, I generally start with an empty preset and add instructions (often post-history) as needed to address specific issues I'm encountering. If I ever get filtered I just switch models.

Most LLMs understand FFF-Class Trashero's content due to being trained on it by accident, someone should get to cracking a world card for that isekai romp. Apparently it was the system prompt. Turning it off in the AI response formatting settings of ST didn't work, but in AI response configuration there was a checkbox for system prompt and that was the culprit. Strange because I didn't think I'd changed any of my settings on gemini but it looks like it's working now so all's well

I have no idea about selfhosting for others, nor the hardware required for it. I would suggest just consulting with the people here for the next 2 weeks before spending a dime. You'll have to answer questions like what your tokens per second would be, and if it'd be worth it if that were split between 10-20 people if you were to spend that kind of money.

At the end of the day, I would think twice about doing this because you're looking at spending tens of thousands of dollars to provide an experience people here can get for $5. And if you're worried about cloud providers going down or something, people on here won't be able to use your machine either if it gets swamped with requests.
