/csg/ - Chink Shit General
Everything is already from China, but here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.
1st rule of /csg/: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

In sum I obviously appreciate the short shipping times we have these days with aliexpress, but sometimes I do miss a package arriving after 2 months and no longer knowing what you ordered, so every package is like a mini lootbox with stuff you did want but didn't need urgently.

Did aliexpress stop selling lithium batteries for all countries or just a few? Either way does anyone have the down low on buying other cheap stuff to harvest their batteries? I'm looking for 602530 batteries not 18650 so that might not work since it's an specific size, but I'm wondering if there's anything that is almost worthless you can buy to get the batteries even 18650s if I need some later.

First time buying from Temu (i usually use aliexpress)
Items took 11 days to arrive
>cheapo 1€ neck gaiters "mens outdoor sunscreen face scarf" (x3)
They feel plasticy and very synthethic but thats too be expected. These thin neck gaiters are great for wearing under the motorbike helmet covering the gap between the helmet and your jacket.
Wearing several of these thin gaiters is a lifehack for any seasoned motorcyclist, whereas anything thicker will struggle to fit on the gap between your face and the helmet and will let cold air hit your neck when you ride.
Ill wash them before trying them on for an extended period of time just in case
>MJMoto Retro Motorcycle leather gloves. 15,28€
They are comfy and seem to include some basic knuckle protection BUT the wrist is way too lose which is very unsafe.
Even if you try to tighten the wrist of the gloves with the velcro, they still barely close at all on your wrist. I wouldnt recommend them, they will go out of your hands very easily in case of an accident and you will wreck your hands. They don't have any slider on the palm either

Bought some guitar gear:

Yuer Looper: I love it, it's both a looper and drum track player.
EROK Tuner: Pretty good as a tuner but the switch wasn't physically connected to ground so I had to solder a cable to the case. Also the switch is terrible and makes noise when pressed.
Assorted patch cables: they all worked great

I have bought Beelinks in the past and also used Lenovo Thincentres locally, they're both good options, but if you want to add more storage down the line then I'd say go for a chink N100/N150 motherboard with lots of IO.
Otherwise just go with whatever Beelink has that fits your needs.

Just keep in mind that the N1xx/3xx CPUs have limited lanes so unless you plan on just having a small "low power" sata/m2 based NAS you might get fucked once you need to expand or need storage faster than what 1 lane can give. A used thin client might be more useful especially if you want an actual PCIE slot.

It's a loss leader like the first anon said but also I think one thing sellers use coins for is to get rid of stock for whatever reasons.
Maybe cosmetic damage that won't sell at regular retail price in physical stores in China. Maybe simply excess stock that costs more to warehouse. Maybe QC fails (ya I know lmao QC amiright). There have been a lot of USB hubs on coin discount lately of absolutely shit quality.

Contrast on the Kaleido panels is a MAJOR setback from the Carta panels like the one on your Kobo. Like, the "white" is so gray it quickly becomes uncomfortable to read on without the front light. Also the way the color pixels are laid out causes annoying rainbow gradients on grayscale images due to how dithering is handheld. The colors are very muted and not worth the sacrifice imo.
Haven't tried any Gallery panel but I haven't heard much better things about them.

Different anon, but I'd agree. I don't really get the big deal with colored panels, I just don't usually post about it because I never owned a colored e-ink device so I don't want to talk out of my ass.
If you think about it, color e-ink adds a bunch to cost to the device and frankly, when do you want the color?
For books color rarely matters. For browsing the e-ink refresh rate is too low to actually be enjoyable.
Leaves tachiyomi/mihon.
Most manga is black and white to begin with, the amount that are colored you can count on one hand (you'll miss out on cover pages I suppose).
The only medium I know that is consistently colored are webtoons and manhwa/manhua, and due to the way those are made to be written (continuous vertical scroll) the refresh rate fucks it up anyways.
So for the one use-case where I want color, I also want refresh rate anyways, so why not read those on my normal android device to begin with.

Maybe I'm just missing some very specific comic subtype with discrete pages and consistent coloring, but I certainly don't consume any.

The meme is that the item almost certainly isn't worth 600$.
You can get decent deals as a first time buyer (they don't want to profit from those purchases, just gain a new customer so you'll order from them in the future), but certainly not -300$ deals.
Consider any "-X%" deal on aliexpress to be inflated, how much depends on the listing. They aren't total scams in that sometimes they are cheaper than market rate, but the exact numbers are using a lot of "creative freedoms".

Never got into the lego tism, but the two big things I can imagine mattering are:
dimensional cross-compatibility - some of these aren't cross compatible with lego, meaning you can't build with your already given bricks which is kind of the whole point
color accuracy - they use different color hues which might annoy the more intensely tism-cursed anons. "the bluish gray tones don't match" type of people.
The brand beyond that shouldn't matter. If anything lego is a downgrade there, as the real competitors (bluebrixx, pantasy, funwhole, cada, Insoon...) usually offer more quality (better color consistency, prints instead of stickers, better designs, more interesting models) for less money. Especially funwhole with their glowing bricks are doing creative shit.

Has Bluetooth, ToS, RCA, and phono. It has some nice features like a countdown at cold start to prevent feeding cold tubes and some dumb shit like a mechanized volume knob that moves when you use the remote. The only downside has been the subwoofer out which is clearly just a full spectrum mono output. To negate that I'm going from DacMagic Pro to Denon AVR 3805 using it's output to feed the Juson and a Samson Servo 200 for subs.

Creative Labs is probably the best sounding, in that size.
Edifier has some small size speakers, but I haven't tested it. I just know the cheaper they are the shittier they sound. Even their expensive speakers sounds average at best.

If you want to go a bit bigger, 5.5"(W)x8"(H)x7"(D) then Swan OS10 is nice. It's what I use.

I don't, what I usually do is search online (or on Github specifically) with "+Arduino" so there are example codes/a library of people who already have dissected the datasheets before. GP2Y1014AU0F, DSM501a, SDS011/SDS021 and more come up with "dust sensor Arduino".
I'm not super proficient in electronics, I come from software, nowadays I try to minimise the risks on the hardware side I don't master.

Cheap motors and thin turbines/fans (the internal part, not the casing). This means one of two things:

The real issue is that it's basically impossible to know which is which (from the cheaper ones) because afaik some which are decent and some which suck ass use the same case but different internals.

Now the Ice Cream machines I'm very familiar with from family road trips were vandalized. But that was due to a methamphetamine American rather than the basketball variety:

What about

I don’t have anything against models like
>>107123791
Or legos offering, but there’s two issues, when seeing them as kids toys:
You don’t really learn much about (mechanical) technology with modern stuff. Prime goal is looks and if there are any working details, they’re wells hidden.
And the target audience is AFOLs with more money than brains. Seriously, most (((18+))) LEGO models actually actively kill your brain cells, they’re so dumbed down.
What about those various “STEM” sets on AliExpress? That seems like a good thing to get a technically minded kid.
Just not sure if the manual isn’t in Chinese. Pictures still work, but I’d love to have some explanation on the underlying gears and stuff.

>You don’t really learn much about (mechanical) technology with modern stuff. Prime goal is looks and if there are any working details, they’re wells hidden.
The absolute state of modern lego man, wasn't that the whole fucking point of technic? I remember that technic models often had a engine or something where you could see the cylinders move (in a rudimentary manner) when you spinned the wheels.
>And the target audience is AFOLs with more money than brains. Seriously, most (((18+))) LEGO models actually actively kill your brain cells, they’re so dumbed down.
Maybe give https://cada-bricks.com/collections/stem-educational a look, they have some cool stuff (a motor where each part moves, also a mega cool robotic arm you can control).
Bit expensive for /csg/ stuff, but pretty cheap compared to lego (not that that's an achievement)
>What about those various “STEM” sets on AliExpress? That seems like a good thing to get a technically minded kid.
I'm an uncle to four nieces who I rarely see, and I've gotten in the habit of gifting them small stuff when I visit that inspires them to like stem more.
If you search ali for "wood stem toy" you get an entire category, usually in the sub 5$ range.
They aren't the kind of gift you give and they play with, you have to sit with them and explain stuff (depends on their age of course), but those make for cool "that's neat" moments. You can explain to them some scientific explanation (oscillations, electrical circuits, how a crane works, how night and day work, what a generator is, how a magnetic field is built around a conductor), they get to build stuff, and you can go into as much depth as they are ready for with the explanation. Gotta adjust the difficulty of the concept to the age of course. Some of these are better suited for it, some less.
Semi related, wooden block are nice to explain geometry/math (e.g. how a*b can be seen as a 2D grid and a*b*c builds a cube).
But you seem to ask about a older sub-group.

It seems this event is not good if you already have a large coin hoard. The 6-month coin expiry still applies. So whatever you collect now will not be used during this sale. Unless you plan on depleting your coins.
Pretty much you're hoping a pinball lands on a product prize or a coupon prize.
So basically it's a dud event that offers nothing for long term game grinders. It rewards those who have no coins banked.

4-7 but they are very bright for their ages (especially the younger ones, as younger siblings often develop faster to catch up to their elder siblings). I don't get each one the same set, I try to adjust it to their age and capabilities. Doesn't always work, I once got the swing one where you create a circuit and the lorenz force makes it swing with a magnet and that was far too complex for them to understand, so I just told them what a circuit is and that this circuit makes the swing move.
If they're younger you just have to help them more, given the scientific aspects I don't think they make for great "just build it yourself" sets. Doesn't help that we aren't an anglo country, so they can't read the instructions themselves (no matter if english or chinese) so I have to be there to guide them anyways.

PMS5003 needs correction algorithms to bring the sensor readings in line with actual value. Don't just raw dog the value that comes out the sensor. Search for Purple Air and EPA correction algorithm. You'll need humidity readings as part of the equations.
It's the most common particle sensors but it's also not that good. Basically the lowest performing one ranked by many research papers. It can be improved to better quality with math buried in research papers. It's the low cost for reasons.
I don't know off hand what's a better off the shelf device. I can't be assed to read through papers again. Maybe the sensiron ones.

Nice quality, style and UX.
The drawback is that it's not that bright for the money. china lights for about half the price are a bit brighter. So, the brightness is a little disappointing, they could have made it 1000lm at least until it overheats. "turbo mode" doesn't work/is the same brightness as "high".
The plus of this is that it feels very high quality and has a nicer user interface though.

Might be overkill for what your mom wants/needs, consider looking into the mi pad SE instead. Also for some reason samsung has some fairly competitively priced tablets sometimes, no idea why, worth a check.

I have a mi pad 5 and it's great. I bought a cheap Samsung to use as a movie player for my father with dementia (keep him entertained in the car) and it was fucking horrible. I had to pick specific encodings and anything 4k was too much for it to handle. You have to really limit your expectations on cheap tablets.

I bought a Sofirn HS21 headlamp on the recommendation of a torch autist on here a little while ago, and I got to try it out last night.
I have to say first, it is incredibly bright. I've had some torches from China before that were hailed as very bright, and they were good enough, but this torch has a really big projection and flood, so it's really bright in the centre point where I'm facing and all around nearby me.
The red light is also pretty cool. It's meant to disturb wildlife less but it did seem to wake up a ton of birds as I walked past. They were going crazy. Maybe unrelated. It is definitely easier on human eyes in the dark.
The functions are easy enough to wrap your head around, though I can see myself forgetting some of them in between uses. I kept the manual for that, which is clear enough.
So yeah, good torch. Beasts tremble as you walk the earth past them. Men fear you and look on in said fear from their windows. It's bright.

I got a cheap samsung S6 off ebay for my mom, and got my dad my old A7.
They both fight over the S6. Biggest issue really is the disappearing chargers and cables. I don't understand where they go. Last time I visited they were trying to charge the A7 with a 5V2A power brick that I have no clue where they got it from.

if you buy directly from china, you get cancer, which is why you must buy the same crap from local retailers that got their stuff from china too but resell it to you for a huge price markup, f.e. I bought an alarm clock to have in my bedroom and found the exact same one on Amazon for 3x the price
so anything bad for their profit, is called cancer to you

the local retailers have presumably ensured that the products meet bare minimum american (or euro) safety standards. and if the product gets you sick, there is somebody domestic you can go after rather than xinwang91239 from nanking province

this is even ignoring the knockoff problem where you see "the same" product on aliexpress as in a local store but it's made by a different company with substandard materials

This, you can actually hold local american/euro retailers responsible for what they sell, whereas its much harder withs Chang. This makes it so they only sell products they know are at least okay, but it also means you pay extra taxes and also whatever profit margin the local retailer takes

Buying straight from china always involves more risk, but that risk also lets you get a discount

You can probably get something that's alright for 500 bucks. I just don't see the point when you can buy a decent chair made of mostly cast aluminum for the same price, and with a brand name chair you'll have spares available for decades.

SANRENMU 7315, paid 11.35€ last week.
Some details
>Sandvik 12C27
>7.4cm blade
>slipjoint
>easily removable deep carry clip
Feels really solid and I'd say it's a steal for this price and probably the best price/quality slipjoint you can buy, being a SAK the only alternative I would consider, but this one can easily be disassembled.
If you want something to carry around and don't dig the tacticool look, or simply can't carry locking knives in your country.

That tank is probably super simple mechanically, one motor for each track (Tank steering is much simpler than wheel steering) and just a motor with 2 gears for turret. Looks fun though.

>>107123791
>You don’t really learn much about (mechanical) technology with modern stuff. Prime goal is looks
Agreed. It's sad what lego has become. Used to be about doing things with the builds and then rebuilding into all kind of different things. When I was a kid every lego set almost no matter how small had a "just imagine" page with 3+ pictures of alternate builds for the set.

Your pic looks pretty good but one thing that really dumbed down lego technic is when they went from technic bricks (left) to "beams" (right) and then all kinds of one-use panels just for design. With technic bricks building is much more flexible and solid.

Remastered is junk, they cut costs over the classic version and made the chair generally worse, the only improvement is arm rest adjustment. But half the parts are now plastic.

As long as the mesh is in good condition, it'll last you 10 years minimum. Mine was already a bit frayed when I got it 15 odd years ago, it still took a long time for those frays to become tears, and it was still a cheap fix.
