I'm using an old laptop from like 2016 with an old spinning HDD and Mint with XFCE works way better than windows 10 did. No slowdowns whatsoever while Windows 10 took like 60 seconds to open a basic file browser window.
Everything just werked out of the box including bluetooth but speakers audio doesn't seem to work. I'm sure I could get it working by fiddling but I'm using bluetooth headphones anyways.
The only thing that required fiddling that was non-negotiable was a flux alternative and Redshift requires you to manually create a config file.
Overall I don't miss windows on this particular laptop at least, linux works way better than windows

Not sure but now that Windows users are typically retarded, they can do massive dystopian shit with minimal pushback, like if you showed Windows as it's been since 10 to a computer user in the 2000s, they would be like "holy shit, that operating system is phoning home and is the definition of spyware and adware" but people are so smooth brained on the windows side these days, that they just put up with it now because power users have fucked off to Linux or Mac, it's almost an amazing filter MS has created to get the customers they want.

Based Linux updating all of it's software in one place, it amazes me how after all this time with upgraded technology, Microsoft can't make a liveCD installer like Linux has where you can be browsing the fucking internet while installing it, which blew me away even in the era of Ubuntu 8.10, it's 2025 and Windows still has the Vista style installer like it's the year 2006 or something, but boy can they get the spyware coded perfectly, lots of effort was put in for that, Windows is so goddamn clusterfucked, but people act like it's easy to use or something, probably because they've been doing it their whole life and any other way of doing this is hard.

The Settings panel of Linux Mint looks damn near like a Mac Anon, that's just what a Unix based settings panel looks like, it's really not that foreign, of course it sorta smacks of a phone because Android has a Linux like kernel, and Apple iPhones run a Darwin style kernel from the macs, which is a unix-like kernel, so when you think about it, Micosoft Windows is the one being unusual.

Just install bazaar and you'll never run into this issue. Flatpak has solved distro GUI packages for all normie apps.

Debian is still the best. Mint exists but its bloated and made too many changes. Linux is not windows, if you can't install debian 13 with XFCE, move the taskbar around and install flatpak you might be a lost cause and should just stay on windows.

sudo apt install flatpak
sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
sudo flatpak install bazaar
