We've developed the perfect system. There are two opposing groups, each believing the same set of principles regarding themselves and the enemy faction. "We are the kind, compassionate ones that stand for what's right and good and pretty", each side exclaims, "and the other side is a bunch of evil, stupid bad guys funded by faceless billionaires and fueled by deception and mental illness".
And both sides are right, ultimately. They accuse others of what they do themselves, rationalizing any psychopathic behavior done by the good guys as FAFO while calling out the same behaviors done by the bad guys, decrying them with whatever word is trendy to use to dehumanize a group of people and make harmful actions against them justified.
Meanwhile, those caught in the middle find themselves living under a chilling effect imposed by two rabid, vocal minority groups who view any opposing group or idea as the work of "traitors" or "infiltrators". They shut up, pretend to agree with their mindbroken, factionalized family members or coworkers and do their best to survive. And of course, the faceless billionaires who've spent decades fleecing the taxpayer continue on getting richer and happier, because they know that by creating a false dichotomy among people they can maintain complete control, as any push against one group of billionaires will put the two groups in conflict.
That's why the closest thing we've seen to uprisings in this country are the mass shootings done by lunatics raised by group chats. It's why the bipartisan opinions never succeed, while the polarizing ones do. And it's why nothing will ever get done about any of our issues until the boomers die out and the culture shifts. It's certainly not impossible.
