KDE vs GNOME - Friendly
I personally prefer KDE Plasma now, but the reality is that the Linux Desktop is dominated by GTK/Libadwaita apps. Using KDE Plasma is like using Windows 11, but the majority of your apps are GNOME/GTK, it just doesn't fit. Except for some cross platform apps, they mostly use qt, like qbittorrent and emulators.

If you want to have a consistent desktop, you have to go with GNOME or at least a GTK desktop like Cinnamon or XFCE. But it makes sense, I mean Ubuntu, Fedora and Flathub go hand in hand with GNOME. If you don't know what I mean: Just install Flatseal or Bazaar on KDE Plasma and open Dolphin next to it.
Anonymous No.107152154 [Report] >>107152231
i fully agree, i prefer kde but the gtk applications here dont blend well with the rest of the desktop (and that goes without mentioning kde own inconsistencies). its also strange that you have a better experience with qt in a gtk de like xfce.
Anonymous No.107152178 [Report]
I don't have any frequently used GTK software installed. I use GIMP sometimes but kolourpaint is usually enough for small edits, and krita might be a valid alternative too.

Bottles is also GTK, but they are moving away from it with bottles-next, last i heard.

Literal skill issue. Everything I use is QT. Sounds like the PEBKAC to me.

Okay picrel doesn't look too bad, but it annoys me. Libadwaita apps don't have this header bar, are more rounded and are structured different. I don't mind GNOMEs design language, the problem for me is just the mixing.

>Libadwaita
jesus, why not use gnome at that point? or you only have those 2 gnome aplications sitting around? maybe you can find better alternatives.

>Don't use apps okay? A-and PEBKAC
Lol, KDE got many good apps, but some apps aren't available qt... Ubuntu, Fedora and Flathub encourage the use of GTK/Libadwaita.

I wanted to switch DE's because of this inconsistency, but then I remembered: I hate that I have to rely on some extensions for GNOME. And many of my favorite apps are actually from KDE and stuff like KDE Connect is a native app, as well as the fucking system tray.

I don't mind older GTK versions, at least they look decent and you can apply a theme (breeze). But look at fucking libadwaita on the right, it looks completely alien and I can't theme it.

Because you are a retard. It's a flatpak with its own theme.
Have you ever heard of gtk.css?

>>107152463
I just tried it again, it only works with older GTK Flatpaks, I can theme them, if I give them permission to see .themes via flatseal. But I can't theme libadwaita still...

everything kde is just poorly designed.
take a look at that calculator.
it was created by someone who has no idea how to design things.
and not even bothering to look up how to do it properly.

as a designer I can tell you that the guy creating kde shit has never heard about hierarchy, does not understand what is important and used more frequently.

it is just a blob of poorly structured buttons of the same color and weight.

fucking disgusting...

and everything in kde world is like that.

who gives a fuck if you have a gui to style it differently.. it will look like and work like shit.

too bad mentally ill kde trannies are lacking in taste and logic to see it.

how can anyone respecting themselves use it daily and hate on gnome is beyond me.

some people do not deserve good things I guess...

nautilus is ok ish.

the best one I ever used was pathfinder from macos but it is expensive and closed source

Everything looks so old school and a bit weird. I might switch to the gimp toolkit. Would ebussy allow me to use a system tray extension, gsconnect and blur my shell?

I think GNOME just looks modern and more minimal. I always switch between KDE and GNOME. Blyat, but you sound like a Apple and GNOME dick sucker... I like GNOME, I just feel like removing the system tray is too much

thats an area where KDE is massively better, i don't care what the calculator i use once a month looks like as long GNOME doesn't give me the superior functionality of dolphin and krunner.

both look ass imo but i can give you one of two.
use gnome with no third-party extensions or themes, preferably with an lts kernel. rock solid experience.

system tray can be enabled by an extension
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1653/tweaks-in-system-menu/

I started with windows 95 then xp, 7 then mac os mountain lion up to Catalina and now I use fedora starting from gnome 40.

so I liked apple but I used everything and still have to use windows and mac for work sometimes (I write apps for those OSes)

the only kde apps I use is okular and fontManager
the rest is kinda useless...

on mac I had to pay to get similar functionality and it was not as good.

yes.
the good thing about gjs and gnome in general that it is incredibly simple because it uses web shit like css and js.

in most cases the only thing you have to do is ad a version number in manifest.json of an extension if it does not work.

very very rarely you have to fix something because some call in some gnome library has changed.

most of extensions are less than 1kb of very primitive code. Like one class with a few methods.

you can do anything in gnome in a few hours of work.

kde isn't really as bad with UI/UX as linux in general is (which is one of its major failing points to mass adaptation, really) and at least it still respects your theming decisions rather than GTK4 throwing you on discount iOS libadwaita because having an icon be shaped slightly askew might offend ebussy and other retarded devs
stop shilling GNOME when it's veering down the same path as windows and ruining anything that uses GTK with it, just like windows

I'm afraid of the name "gnome". If I let my children use it, won't it slow down their growth?
Don't get me wrong, I respect dwarves, gnomes, they are an important part of nature, but I don't want some of my children to become dwarves. Although this would have its advantages, due to the smallness of our apartment.

testing out gnome, its honestly not that bad but the kdeconnect port (GSConnect) wont detect my devices) and my favorite parts of kde were kdeconnect and the clipboad

i wanted to run fedora kinoite on it but SDDM has some bug where it wont unlock from a yubikey where's in GDM it seems to work.

Both are shit and should not be supported. The best is to install some lightweight WM and GTK apps. There are like 2 apps on KDE side that are worth anything, Krita and maybe Kdenlive. That's all folks.
