Killing us is damaging to life. The earth will do fine long after we are hypothetically gone. It has endured hundreds if not thousands of "world-ending" cataclysms, eruptions, earthquakes, meteors, ice ages, you name it. These are not "damaging to earth", but to the humans trying to live on it.
