62. The Worldwide/Radio Church of God (Aka Armstrongism)

One of the largest cults in American history, and an offshoot of 7th Day Adventism led by a “prophet” who fucked his own daughter and claimed the world would end in 1975.

>How come Christian sects can look so different from one another but you never see this in Judaism or Islam?
This is true for Judaism. You even have Ethiopian Jews that are literally just Africans that call themselves Jews. But Judaism is a dying religion, and the big distinguisher between “denominations” in Judaism is just how much somebody gives a fuck about their religion. You have the Hasidic/Orthodox who actually care and dress weird and go to synagogue. You have the “Liberal Jews” which are literally 50% atheist, barely go to Synagogue, and only celebrate the holidays that have cool food. This is literally encoded into the religion as some shit like “every Jew is Jewish in their own way, but still Jewish” or some shit to handwave away the fact that they’re just an atheist with a weird looking penis.

Islam is notorious for throwing heretics off buildings, so there’s not a lot of room for religious reform. Still happens though. You have Sunnis and Shiites. Also, Islam assimilated a lot of small, local, pagan, tribal religions, and they basically operate to this day but under the name of Islam only. Also, a lot of the Muslim world is illiterate, so they can’t read all the literature condemning their way of practicing Islam.

Rural (like Afghanistan) areas are still big into boyslave servants and consider it not gay. It’s considered an Islamic rite amongst them. The greater Muslim world rejects it, but the rural Muslims can’t read, so they don’t care. Lot of examples of stuff like this in Islam. Witchcraft, homosexuality, goat fucking, idolatry, overt paganism and pantheism. The Quran may condemn it, but Muslims can’t read so it doesn’t matter.

Correct, and neither did Nestorius, but that's the difficulty with faith and history. Anyway, the Syriac speaking churches have annual or biannual meetings and most of them agree that there is only a semantic difference. Only the Oriental Orthodox remain hardliners on that the Church of the East is truly Nestorian based on the writings of Cyril of Alexandria taken as a gospel.
Regardless, it does not matter, if the Nestorian Church had no problem with using the term in their early days, and even expounded upon their own theology while doing so, they should just embrace it, as many of their ancestors did. It's been 1500 years and only now there's a heavy reaction against the term, give me a break...
It's historical revisionism to just censor the term and pretend it was never reality because of modern ecumenical dialogue.
Anonymous No.17789733 [Report]
A lot of these aren't denominations but just philosophical currents within them. Like Pietism isn't a separate thing from Lutheranism, it's just a particular trend within it.

I'll also go 67 with Two By Twos. They're a purposely obscure/behind-the-scenes cult where members of the church (which officially doesn't even have a name, most outsiders just call them that) live among those who wish to convert, and there have been massive per capita sex abuse scandals with them lately, because it's these initiated "priests" living with random people for a long duration of time to make sure they're "real Christians". They're a pretty outlandish one and I've never seen anyone discuss them here

None of these denominations can be considered Christian. Mormons, Jehovah's Witness, and Unitarian Universalist. This is what it means to be Christian:

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets.

In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come.

Amen.
