My impression is that he some sort of combination of Solipsism, Cartesian Doubt, and good old hedonism and things like that.
Imo you can't really refute that, it's just outlook on existence, perhaps more honest and less pretentious than most of the other 19th century stuff.

He's only such because his ideas were so ridiculous they weren't worth refuting, talking Hegel and collapsing the metaphysics onto itself over and over again like a folding chair to bash everyone over the head with.
