I can't believe they made this guy a foreign minister.

>At the same time, Ribbentrop took to shouting at the Turkish Ambassador in Berlin, Mehemet Hamdi Arpag, as part of the effort to win Turkey over as a German ally. Ribbentrop believed that Turks were so stupid that one had to shout at them to make them understand. One of the consequences of Ribbentrop's heavyhanded behaviour was the signing of the Anglo-Turkish alliance on 12 May 1939.

Did it? Germany got all of industrial Poland, Soviets got Belarussian swamps, Baltics and their land grabs from Finland and Romania pushed those countries into Germany's arms.

Ribby is the most hilarious nazi.
>never gave a shit about muh joos in the past
>literally just paid attention to what Hitler liked and repeated the same patterns to ingratiate himself
>thought Britain was ruled by the nobility and tried to build relations with them
He was like an LLM pretending to be a nazi.

Imagine being Nevile Henderson and having to deal with this autist in order to prevent a major war.
Henderson went through years of intense academic training to become a diplomat only to be squared up with a former wine seller calling himself a diplomat.

The smartest nazi Hjalmar Schacht (143 IQ) was part of secret anti-Hitler opposition within the Nazi party since 1930s and got sent to a concentration camp when his ties to German resistance came up in 1944 during investigation following Hitler's failed assassination attempt.

Hitler completely trusted Ribbentrop to make the correct analysis on Britain so Germany would not be at war with her.
Hitler briefly hesitated to invade Poland and cancelled the invasion on August 25th, but Ribbentrop kept assuring him that Britain would do nothing, because Ribbentrop self-styled himself as an expert on Britain.
Then came the famous day of September 3rd:

>I then took the ultimatum to the Chancellery, where everyone was anxiously awaiting me. Most of the members of the Cabinet and the leading men of the Party were collected in the room next to Hitler's office. There was something of a crush and I had difficulty in getting through to Hitler.

>When I entered the next room Hitler was sitting at his desk and Ribbentrop stood by the window. Both looked up expectantly as I came in. I stopped at some distance from Hitler's desk, and then slowly translated the British Government's ultimatum. When I finished, there was complete silence.

>Hitler sat immobile, gazing before him. He was not at a loss, as was afterwards stated, nor did he rage as others allege. He sat completely silent and unmoving.

>After an interval which seemed an age, he turned to Ribbentrop, who had remained standing by the window. 'What now?' asked Hitler with a savage look, as though implying that his Foreign Minister had misled him about England's probable reaction. Ribbentrop answered quietly: 'I assume that the French will hand in a similar ultimatum within the hour.'

>As my duty was now performed, I withdrew. To those in the anteroom pressing round me I said: 'The English have just handed us an ultimatum. In two hours a state of war will exist between England and Germany.' In the anteroom, too, this news was followed by complete silence.

>Goering turned to me and said: 'If we lose this war, then God have mercy on us!' Goebbels stood in a corner, downcast and self-absorbed. Everywhere in the room I saw looks of grave concern, even amongst the lesser Party people."

It's not even that Ribbentrop was unqualified, he was just flat out fucking bad at his job. A lot of businessmen were used as unofficial intermediaries by both the Axis and Allies to varying degrees of success.

Akchually, _in retrospect_ the science is clear that removing the buffer state between Russia and Germany was retarded.
In retrospect, it would have been a good (from German imperialist perspective that is) move if it ended up in Germany conquering Russia, not the other way round.

>the science is clear that removing the buffer state between Russia and Germany was retarded
No, not necessarily.
Even assuming that Stalin would want to break the pact himself at some point, it would have been much better diplomatically and logistically for the Germans to let the Soviets come. This way they could have presented themselves as the victims of communist aggression.
Plus, Germany didn't really have the numbers or the will to properly colonise European Russia
