Bethlehem, PA. my grandfather worked at Bethlehem Steel. i will grant you the 50s absolutely had its share of lowlifes like every era--the white trash who were always drunk, always in jail, always beating or molesting their kids, but there was always a containment zone where they were warehoused in and kept away from everyone else. in our case, Easton was the designated containment zone for human scum (actually the town still kind of is).
of course they still had no legal porn or drugs beyond alcohol back then which made for a big difference.
