How anyone can look at the state of the world and not immediately be filled with immense anger and anguish is beyond me. If god exists he is a demon.

I'm not even a religious man, but I think a more accurate takeaway would be that God absolutely hates Cynics. One of the 7 Deadly Sins was originally written as "lypē" or "Sadness" but this was often translated as Sadness (towards others misfortune) or Envy.

I’m not religious, but if there’s a heaven this makes sense. Living a long painful life is not a good thing if heaven exists.

The problem with this reasoning though is that it just trivializes life into just a means to an end to get to heaven. And eternal life may not even be desirable. This is why some Christian Theologians float the idea of universal annihilationism for everyone, not just sinners, with the only exception being people that genuinely do want to serve God in heaven for an eternity. This also makes sense as to why God is selective about who gets to Heaven, because traditionally the point is to serve him in his kingdom

Suffering is overwhelming, but the call is to wrestle with God rather than give up.
