Why do the Axis troops not get a "thank you for your service"?

Half of them were given high paying jobs in America with pensions after the war was over. If anything we were too lenient on those krauts

Don't worry, they lost 50 years later in 1991. Then the real good guys (America) won once and for all.

IKn my opinion they should at this point. Lots of good men fought for Germany and Japan. Part of the process of forgiving each other for WW2 should be honoring their service.

Let's not include the Latvian divisions with the rest. They were forcefully conscripted and after the war they were cleared of wrongdoing.

The average German soldier was just fighting for country like everyone else. The SS on the other hand was full of violent psychopaths.

what service? You don't serve your country by plundering others and bringing the wrath of firebombing down on your homeland.
True service would've been assassinating the people responsible for starting the war, couping the government, and negotiating an immediate peace. Like those German officers in the July plot.

Germany still pays out pensions to all the surviving foreign volunteers who served during the Third Reich. Meanwhile former members of the Volkssturm get basically no compensation whatsoever.

Most of the Osttruppen, Hiwis, and Trawnikis were serving under duress to one degree or another. Many were recruited out of POW camps where they had been murdered in the millions by intentional neglect before the Germans realized they couldn't afford to waste the manpower.
