>Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
>Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
>And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Now, pretending that this commandment doesn't exist won't let you off the hook for violating it. Remember: God hates you. Tick tock.

The key to that commandment is in the second part: "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them."

The commandment isn't an absolute ban on all images. It's a ban on making images for the purpose of worshiping them as gods. The Israelites had just come from Egypt, a culture that worshiped statues of bulls, cats, birds, and the sun. This commandment was to make it clear: you do not worship created things.

We (Catholics/Orthodox) do not worship statues or icons. We worship the one God. The images are simply reminders of the holy people they represent, just as a photograph in your wallet is a reminder of a loved one.

Notice how we're all called to serve each other too; so having a photograph of the son you serve is idolatry?

That's the last gasp of someone who just got completely owned by Scripture and has to invent a special, unwritten "God gave Himself a pass" rule to save his failed argument.

It's not an "exception". It's the ACTUAL RULE. The rule was NEVER "don't make images." The rule was ALWAYS "don't WORSHIP images."

God never made an "exception" and told anyone to worship a statue. His rule is 100% consistent.

Your entire brain-dead "theology" is built on ripping verses in half. You do it everywhere. It's a pattern.

PATTERN OF ILLITERACY:

YOUR FAILED LAW: "Thou shalt not make any graven image"
THE PART YOU CUT OFF: "...Thou shalt not bow down and serve them." (Exodus 20:5)

THE TRUTH: It's a ban on IDOLATRY, not art.

Cutting verses in half elsewhere: "Judge not..." (Matthew 7:1)

WHATS CUT OFF: "...Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." (Matt 7:5)

THE TRUTH: It's a ban on HYPOCRITICAL JUDGMENT, not all judgment.

YOUR FAILED LAW: "Call no man your father..." (Matt 23:9)

THE PART YOU CUT OFF: The entire context of rebuking Pharisees for pridefully seeking titles, and the fact that Paul calls himself a "father" (1 Corinthians 4:15).

THE TRUTH: It's a ban on PRIDE, not a word.

See the pattern? You're a one-trick pony. You find a sentence, cut it in half, and build a new religion around that.

Stop diminishing God's Word. It's pathetic. Tick tock.

Hilarious. You got so completely rekt on your "making images" argument that you're desperately pivoting to "bowing down."

This is just your next layer of terminal illiteracy. You think the physical act of "bowing" (Hebrew: shachah / Greek: proskuneo) automatically equals "worship" (latreuo).

SO BY YOUR 5-IQ LOGIC, THE ENTIRE OLD TESTAMENTS MOST PIOUS SAINTS ARE IDOLATERS

Lot was an idolater: "And there came two angels to Sodom... and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself [SCHACAH] with his face toward the ground." (Genesis 19:1)

Abraham A PATRIARCH was an idolater BECAUSE He "ran to meet them... and bowed himself [shachah] toward the ground." (Genesis 18:2). He also bowed [SCHACAH] to the pagan Hittites. (Genesis 23:7)

Jacob A PATRIARCH was an idolater; He bowed [shachah] to his brother Esau seven times. (Genesis 33:3)

JOSHUA was an idolater: He "fell on his face to the earth, and did worship [shachah]" to the angel captain of the Lord's host. (Joshua 5:14)

All of Israel were idolaters according to you Satan. "And David said to all the congregation... And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped [shachah] the LORD, and the king." (1 Chronicles 29:20)

They all BOWED. The Bible proves you wrong.

"Bowing" is a sign of RESPECT (veneration). The sin is in SERVING (latreuo LATRIA) it as a God. We SERVE God alone. You're too stupid to see the difference between respecting a king and worshiping him, or respecting a photo of your mom and sacrificing goats to it.

so your original argument which is that the one you're desperately running from was that God forbade MAKING images, period LOL. You said the golden cherubim were just "exceptions."

And that's where archaeology absolutely buries your entire failed "theology."

Look to the Dura-Europos synagogue. It's a 3rd-century Jewish house of worship,, its walls are COVERED in paintings of Moses, Ezekiel, and winged angels.

The actual Jews from that time didn't have your brain-damaged, modern, iconoclast take. They knew the commandment forbade worshiping images, not making them.
>b-b-but "late corruption."

Pic rel; these are LMLK seals from the 8th Century BC. King Hezekiah's official royal stamp, used for taxes. What's on it? A large winged figure.

You're not "based." You're an unhistorical, scripturally illiterate clown who rejects Sacred Scripture, history, and archaeology three times in a row.

You've lost. You have no argument. Cope harder. Tick tock.

That's the most pathetic, diaper-spoiling concession I've ever seen.

I just handed you an entire encyclopedia of scriptural, historical, and archaeological proof, and your only response is literally "NUH-UH."

Remember since the start of the thread you ran away from:
>Exodus 25:18: God commanding golden "graven images" of angels.
>Numbers 21:8: God commanding a "graven image" of a serpent.
>1 Kings 6-7: God's own Temple being filled with "graven images."

and now
>Genesis 18, 19, 23, 33, Joshua 5, 1 Chron 29: Abraham, Lot, Jacob, Joshua, and all of Israel "bowing" (shachah) to angels and kings as respect.

>Dura-Europos Synagogue: 3rd-century Jews painting angels all over their walls.
>LMLK Seals: 8th-century BC Jews stamping winged figures on their royal property.

You got BTFO by the Bible.
You got BTFO by history.
You got BTFO by archaeology.

At this point the mods should you ban you from /his/. Not a single time I ever see you on the board (which is unfortunately a lot) do you ever even have a single historical point to bring up.

You are historically illiteratye.

You have zero arguments left. All you can do is plug your ears, scream "nuh-uh," and screech "you're going to Hell."

This is what losing looks like. Your empty-skulled "theology" is a dumpster fire. God forbid, you'll be the one screaming "but it didn't happen!" while you fry. Tick tock.

So, can you explain why you worship, kiss, burn incense to, bow down to, carry on your shoulders statues and images of corruptible man?
I don't see how the artwork in the temple which no one bowed down to, kiss, pray to etc. is homologous to your rank idolatry.
>For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
>Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
>For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
>Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
>Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
>And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
^Specifically, the wrath of God is revealed against them that changed the glory of God into an ICON verbatim.

A new challenger appears, and this one is even more illiterate than the last.

The word "eikon" just means "image." The sin in Romans 1 is not "making an eikon." Read your own quote. The sin is "chang[ing] the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image" (v. 23) and then "worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator" (v. 25).

By your logic, St. Paul condemns Christ Himself, who is called:

"The image (EIKON) of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature." (Colossians 1:15)

And he condemns all of mankind:

"For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image (EIKON) and glory of God." (1 Corinthians 11:7)

.............YOU JUST "VERBATIM" PROVED that St. Paul is a heretic who condemns both Jesus and man. Or, more likely, you have no idea what you're talking about.

>no one bowed down to
You just made this up.
>"And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel..." (Joshua 7:6)

You see "bow" or "kiss" and your brain short-circuits. Paul commands Christians to "greet one another with a holy kiss." (2 Corinthians 13:12). Were they worshiping each other?

"And all the congregation... bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the king." (1 Chronicles 29:20). They "worshipped" (bowed, shachah) both God and the king. The same action, different types of honor.

You'd think you'd be too ashamed to attach yourself as a namefag to that level of ignorance.
