basically, my biggest issue was line and then 3d perception, so I needed to learn better line quality before I could move on to 3d simplification and construction and so forth
the other thing is I can foreshorten, I just can't construct, so I can foreshorten in some capacity by eye, and foreshortening by eye actually heavily interferes with learning construction desu because it's two different procedures

This is nice but the thumb is a bit incorrect anatomically. It isn’t possible for the base of the thumb (the section under it that connects to the wrist) to flatten as i you’ve drawn it. It moves a lot, but the thumb itself is what has the most flexibility

for colors is about learning how to see color and their relationship with other colors for example you will start noticing how much cyan there is in that image but it will look grayish because the background and buu are very red/fuchsia. basic lighting understanding and for technique soft round brush at 73 or 50% fixed opacity.

It will definitely be challenging if ink and toned paper are new to you, but experimentation is really important to grow as an artists . you’d be surprised with what you can create with a different medium when you challenge yourself.

I would bet that you could draw from life well based on what I’m seeing here. It’s very difficult but trust me, when it pays off, it pays off well. I did do some zoo stuff about 3 or 4 weeks ago and I also sketch passerbys when getting high on my patio. I can sometimes come up with a nice silhouette or gesture but the fine details of human subjects still eludes me. I guess it's a matter of building up my short term memory? it turns despite my fixation on my lack of ability I've actually been able to draw boxes/cubes for a long time and the problem that was making me think that I couldn't was actually that I was putting the vanishing points way too close together. creating a lot of distortion that made them look wrong, but they were actually right if you accounted for too close together vanishing points. if anyone is having that issue where their boxes look very distorted, try moving the vanishing points farther out or imagining them farther out

Now that i'm looking at it more, the hair on the left side of the face meets the jaw too. Mine is too in. Also forgot the panty side strings, the right arm is askew and too thin at the base, and the right side hip to torso is too thin and right arm too out.

For anatomy, i've found morpho simplified forms on internetarchive and have been both reading and occasionally drawing from it, trying to form an idea of its usage in my head. Thats basically it. I didnt look into shadows or colors in particular but i've read recreating colors is a good exercise so i did. The shadows/light i just tried to see from the image and then sketched it onto the lineart (thats why double lineart text) with blue and red, then smeared it until i was somewhat satisfied.

Does anyone have any good tips for getting accurate and equal spacing of things like fingers?
Hardest part of hands for me is dividing the fingers (excluding the thumb) into 4 parts, because it's a small enough space that measuring with your pen is too hard, but also it's too many divisions to use the "Draw an X through the plane to find the middle" technique. Only other thing is using a ruler, which is too tedious if you're doing 5 min studies.

Hell if there's a good tip for this, it would be useful for a lot of things, actually.

I feel limited by the fact I don't know what I want my drawing to look like before setting down a sketch. Do anons bother visualizing? I feel like there are two methods of drawing, doodle until you like a sketch and finish it, figuring out the details as you go along, or have a specific end goal in mind and build towards it methodically.

I think the bananas should always be layered and never really parallel. I try not to bend the spikes too much. they should have consistent shape since there are so many of them, the spikes should always start from somewhere, your character's spikes above his eye don't really seem to start from anywhere. I'm thinking to make some ghostly stuff, where a shadow-like entity wants to "interact" with an oblivious person, but I'm not sure which one is better for the entity hand phase, is it better in an "appproach" phase (A), or "interact" phase (B)? The hand on B would be a bit covered by the person's shoulder because it stays in the wall

Finally on hte last stretch of the current work load. Another copied drawing. This one has the planes of the face feeling kind of very wrong. It feels like her eyes melt into the side of her face. I've notice this a lot on anime drawings which makes it bad to pick one to try and copy without getting these bad habits

For this one I was going for a 2000's vector illustration style. I was mostly focused on making it look like that on the character. Think sonic the hedgehog vectors from sa2 era.

Yes, down to the details such as buying charcoals and drawing on easily disposable packing paper. I never fully finished it, but i did make it over 50%.

I also followed along with ctrl+paint before that.

Take it slow peril, if you don't have a clear story you want to do right now, it's probably best not to force it. I hope the books give you some ideas, or indeed just go with that favela story. But only once you have the time, and most importantly, the motivation to do it.
