How do I increase my speed with drawing?

It takes me around 4 hours to get lines on canvas without mistakes. But how do I speed up my rendering?
We break it down into sections how fast should each step be? Sketch. Lines. Rendering.
What shortcut brushes/tools would you recommend? There's so much competition on Twitter I'd like to be just as fast as the professionals.
And don't say AI you fucking faggots.

This

The only option is to get good. If your mistakes take up a significant time of the time you spend drawing, you're not good enough.

speed comes much later on, focusing on getting good and consistent results first
most of the speed improvements come from developing an efficient workflow over time and making much less mistakes that you have to fix

Draw lines until the page is black.
Draw a circle slowly clockwise and counter-clockwise.
That’s it, really.
Will you do it? Unlikely.

Does this mean I should focus on quantity over quality? I've seen people say this but I hate that idea.

I don't draw things that I can draw easily because I want to out do myself and draw something more ambitious than last time. None of my skill matters because I'm only trying to draw things I can't draw.

No, that is not what that means. If you stare at your hands and hunt for keys when you're typing, it doesn't mean you're focusing on quality. It just means you suck shit at typing. Get better.

some anons have said proficiency. of course you can also just draw faster. I draw pretty fast.
but I don't want to draw too fast or it might get messy.

Time how long it takes you to draw - perhaps time those individual step (sketching, lines, rendering, etc).
Once you have those times, race yourself to beat those times each time you draw, and keep doing it until you're satisfied with your speed.

I hear several anons say proficiency is the answer, but personally I think speed is its own trained skill, rather than simply something that part of proficiency (though proficiency will definitely help you).

First of all, start timing your work, and only time when you're actually drawing. There's a program that does this for you automatically called Work.exe but I think Krita and some other programs have the feature built in automatically.
This will make you immediately aware of just how much you're not actually drawing. Things like tabbing out to watch youtube, sitting there not drawing, etc. Most artists who claim it takes them 10 hours to draw a picture actually only draw for 2 hours and screw around for the remaining 8.

Once you're focussed on actually drawing, now pay attention to how long it takes you to do things, ie the sketch, the lines, the colours, etc. One of these may be much longer than the others.
Look for ways to speed this up by eliminating time wasters, such as using a small brush to fill in flat colours rather than a bigger brush or even the fill bucket.
If you spend alot of time redoing the sketch, or establishing perspective, start practising just that on its own, develop a formula/method for doing thoses things so you can do them faster.

And finally, always draw with the goal of reaching a minimum-viable-product. That is to say, don't spend 10 hours rendering meaningless background details before you have finished the face. Always work on the most important areas needed to get the picture finished.

its not proficinency issue. I only draw things that I don't know how to draw because I want to get better, if I learn something then I never draw it again. Its an endless grindset since I can't allow myself to take the easy way out and relax.

Well quality hasn’t gotten you that far so a change to quantity for a while seems like the way to go. Generally, if you’re stuck, try a change. >>7632799
Ideally, though, I think a mix of both is best. For example, if you draw every day, try quality on even days and quantity on odd ones.

You could also try a medium where you’re forced to work with mistakes, like MS-paint, or many traditional ones.

At some point every digital artist needs to bite the bullet and go through the documentation for their program.

Draw fast hombre. I was unburdened by the presupposition that art is something that takes time. Since I watched speedpaints growing up I ended up autistically latching onto 2x speed as a norm. Draw fast and your brain will catch up. Simple as.

You'll get faster the better you get at drawing. Just take your time to do what you love.
(I sketch really quickly now but I'm extremely slow with colours because I've always skipped that step. I'm trying to get into it now and it's a struggle because it doesn't look good and it takes so long ugh. But that's exactly what my sketches used to be like, so I'll keep going!)

Try turning off all distractions and focusing, then taking a break when you can't focus.
> break it down into sections how fast should each step be? Sketch. Lines. Rendering.
A good sketch will help you with good lines, and good lines that clearly convey form and planes well will help you render faster.

You can also work smaller and break things down so you're not doing all that work in the render stage. Define light/shadow shapes and figure out your edges before hand, have your color palette figured out as well. this can all be done (except the edges really) in the thumbnail stage like having a little mini map to where you want to go. Skill and concentration will always be the bottleneck, artists don't really "get faster" they learn to chunk certain things due to the different paths they explored to refine their process

Time figure drawing sessions, no longer than 5 minutes per pose.
So this every day and you'll be much much much faster in a month. You'll start noticing improvement after a week.
I used to take multiple days to finish a piece but now I can do pic rel in around 90 minutes

a beg drawing for an hour and a pro drawing for an hour are both drawing for an hour. The only difference in how long something takes to finish is their personal standards. A beg can finish a drawing in one hour and so can a pro, its all up to what they considered finished. you're applying your current standard to a future version of you that draws better, thinking that you can get "more drawing" done, but that's not how it works. You'll feel slow even when drawing twice as many figures as you are now.

most time is spent fixing mistakes, make no mistakes and you'll be fast.

learn to draw without using any guidelines, and you will also be faster. This will mean you might have to be more conservative with what you draw, sticking to what you know if you want to draw fast
