im on an art discord made for this super random youtuber (less than 3k followers) and somehow is the best server i been in. even when the guy is mental unstable he give good advice and he is hard to dislike even when he insult people or start schizo rants about jews or how much he hates other art sloptubers even when he have not made a single vid in a year.
compared to big name servers i been in this is a paradise, people talk, post art, give advice and have fun, recently we started watching movies on vc after making group studies. We have to post art every week but i do not feel it as a task, because i know i can jump to the voice chat and someone will join and we talk about random bullshit or just draw with music in the bg.

In the other hand, /ic/ servers are always full of /beg/s, an /int/ or /pro/ joins to flex for a few days, another one join, they basically circle jerk until they start to hang out 1 on 1 and leave, with a bunch of no-draw begs who have this personality of "im better than everyone here" creating the ultimate crab bucket.

I run a server and have basically none of these things happen except some interpersonal shenannigans that I was able to sort out by getting them to properly talk to each other and being a mediator. It's not hard to make a community work out fine, even if there are beginners who need some guidance.

I'm probably an entire decade and a half older than you at minimum from what you're saying. Art has always been like this. The folks I know are all sorts of different ages with different likes and dislikes, life experiences, and what have you. One of the guys I worked with on Double Dragon Gaiden is only 3 years older than me. He worked on one of the most famous sonic fangames out there, and he also worked on Flipwitch most recently.

The only guy I ever met from those places was this 96 year old guy named Vick who was still wood-working, painting, metal-working, and all sorts of other things. Said instructor has paintings in the Coca Cola Museum, fantastic mixed media work.

I've had plenty of milestones and great experiences in my life. I didn't need a bunch of smarmy weirdos drinking coffee pretending they're interesting to be accomplished, I just did my thing, met cool people, and made it on my own terms.
