Working on this right now. I wanted to do the same camera angle and perspective, but not exactly the same pose, so I used csp's feature to detect poses on 3d models and then tweaked it around atop the original pic, then drew atop of it.

Hopefully it'll come out looking good :)

Ok this is embarrassing but I'm going through "drawing on the right side of the brain" and I'm at the part now where it teaches me about negative space and the "basic unit" (first shape you put down) and that the basic unit's proportions determine all other proportions in the drawing. so far so good, but then it says that I should put my pencil on Vincent's chair to compare the relationships, like to compare the width of all 3 negative spaces in the chair back.
and it says that for each proportion I'm supposed to go back to my basic unit to measure it and make the comparison with the other negative spaces in the chair back. and then it says that these relationships are expressed in relationships to "one" or in other words "ratios"

then it says, the negative space just below our basic unit is about 1:7/8, but I can't see it, and I also don't know if the "1:7/8" stands for "width:height" or "basic unit width:other negative space's width" or what. Like is the "one" the space I'm currently looking at, or is it the basic unit, and is it the vertical or horizontal line or the whole thing? I'm utterly confused. It also says the next space below is 1:3/4.

The concept is important and useful, but the treatment in the book is a bit too clinical for me. Unless you're regularly working with an architect's scale, calculating scales precisely is less art and more drafting. Drafting is fun and I do it quite a bit for prop making and woodworking (bitches love my vemco B-) ), but I rarely use my scale as anything more than a straightedge when I'm drawing figures and whatnot. Hell, I use my thumb and index finger for determining the skullheight of a given reference.

I don't agree with that other anon talking about the "uneven" perspective. When you do a "piece of art" it needs to look "imperfect", somehow flawed, "man made", that's the almost imperceptible touch that makes an image interesting, to look at. Otherwise it would be a "reproduction", and nothing more than that.

Small birds are probably the easiest but there's not much that can go wrong with them. For more complex animals, I enjoy hound dogs because they have interesting shapes, their legs have interesting gesture lines, and their smooth coat eliminates most ambiguity. Their snouts are practically boxes which is teaching me a little bit of perspective lol.

That's more or less what I mean by line minimalism, yeah. What's the minimum number of lines that I need to make to give the impression of fur? Details and textures can be added more thoughtfully after, but trying to quickly establish the form that the fur makes is the most challenging and crucial part (for me). Drawing quickly with only ink handicaps me to think about only the most important lines which is my main goal when using ink.

the issue is you drew the feet from the straight on perspective like you were viewing from the front

it looks more like B than A even. the legs also seem straight without upwards view perspective being obvious.

you can't fix this picture because of compounding perspective issues but next time try placing the feet a little more sideways to the camera so it's easier for yourself to see the correct perspective clearer and you don't fall back to front perspective habits

I used to feel that way too. Just keep doing lineart, until you find a way that feels less boring. It will take time.
