I do not know how to draw, this is my first thing and it took me almost an entire hour, constantly referencing poses online. I'm pretty proud of the hands, which took 75% of the time, but I hate the face and don't know why, just looks wrong. Please help, and just provide any tips or anything really (aside from what's in OP ofc) Also, I'd really appreciate if you can point out what details you can actually discern; I wanna know if I was able to properly convey what I was envisioning or if it's just getting muddled. Also this is my first time on this board, so sorry if I posted in the wrong place, but it seems correct.

that*s a pretty good learning subject, you have different materials on the clothes, he has a staff so you always have something he can interact with. There are interesting characteristics in the design, it's not too bloated either.

Shaolin monk reference picture are going to be your friend for action poses including staffs. The jacket will turn into a massive crutch so you might wanna drop it for your studies and just go with a bare chest until you get it or add it afterwards on top

yeah basically, eventually you wanna learn how the clothes should look like, but knowing how the actual body underneath should be drawn is a building block for that, the cloak is bulky so it's gonna be a "hide hands behind the body" type of crutch unlike more skintight clothes like a regular shirt f.e.

drawing still life helped me draw faster. That and if you catch yourself focusing too hard on a specific section of the drawing, move on to a random different part of it.

I'm so slow

tried drawing a bloodborne sho, I think he turned out cute. it was really tough doing the outfit, I had a ref for the pose and the outfit both separately, but I'm not sure if I got the turned perspective right or did it particularly well
that and the fabric folds were driving me crazy
I think the best part is the fabric fold in the left elbow lol I know that's a really specific part but it looks organic imo
his right arm looks too long and maybe his torso is straight compared to relatively mobile legs
the sway of the longer robes was really challenging bc the reference didn't really have anything like it, and the ref was a still reference so I cost to just wing it rather than trying to spend ages finding another reference but I think it looks moderately alright

I bought a used PS4 years ago just to play bloodborne and honestly it was definitely worth it, but only bc it scratched an itch nothing else did
I sucked at it too when I started, iirc I died to gascoigne like at least 40 times if not 60+, and istg by the time I made it to the orphan (which was after multiple new games and new game pluses and builds for each weapon type), I killed him on the first try somehow

Came to the conclusion my knowledge in basic gesture was shallow so I'm starting from scratch using Hampton's gesture course. This junk was from yesterday.

Simple styles like made in the abyss are deceptively so and there's not a lot of wiggle room for mistakes. For the critique of the drawing Try making the arms more like cylinders and upping your accuracy when drawing.

What I would do if I were at your skill level and just wanted a better drawing of Reg, I would first trace the artwork making notes of why the artist chose the lines they did, then I would draw it again (You'll most likely see improvement) using those notes. When tracing keep it simple don't ad extra details like the shadow shapes because it can confuse you and if anything you can use the tracing as a simplified reference to align things and get proportions correctly.

The left arm feels floaty because there's no indication of the shoulder moving with it, influencing a lot of the other muscle forms along with it as well. It basically feels like it's not attached to the body because of this, but honestly this isn't a problem you should be thinking about yet since it's more important that you loosen up first by drawing from life and building up your understanding of 3D space and forms which would help a lot when you're finally ready to tackle the more complicated stuff.

You might just be tracing the contours. Start with gesture to get the flow, build simple forms to give it structure, then refine. Use negative space and check angles instead of blindly copying outlines. Compare proportions, use plumb lines, flip the canvas. Whatever helps you see better. its rather easy i think, her left eye is too far out. moving it closer to the nose ridge could improve the gestalt and move the right one a little lower, make it slightly smaller. being on computer its easier to fix that and test it out

thats just your perspective works and sizing that need polishing, but it does look better. always test and experiment, try to think of what looks wrong and why it looks wrong, is it the wrong size, the wrong place, is another object/line making it look weird. sometimes its the smallest things making the gestalt, the whole thing, look weird.
