>>7684249it really depends on the topic of the mango imo. but a seinen with a very cartoony style can also work, and there is a certain contrast in the artstyle and thematic. like doing a very brutal and dark war drama in an almost childish looking style could be cool. probably exists somewhere

Okay done for real this time.
>>7683860Good suggestion, honestly I tried thinking of an artist with a similar style to what I was going for and realized I didn't have a solid idea of what style I was going for in the first place. That's probably the biggest factor in why it felt unfinished.
>>7683865Thanks!

i felt bad for the other /beg/ beating themselves up for their full body sketch in the last one.

>>7684283no story in particular, you can just look at any post in the subreddit of someone failing something simple like not using references or not observing a reference and see a horde of bullshit replies
https://www.reddit.com/r/learntodraw/comments/1mhm6h3/what_can_i_do_to_improve_my_art
like this post, every reply is either bad for the skill level this person is at or complimenting the art when the person is asking how to improve
>>7684306Your lineart varies too wildly. It's super thin in some areas and way too thick in others like that arm.
Just something to watch out for in the next one.
>>7684299kawaii. the horn is slightly bigger and the body needed to be a little longer, but its still very cool, despite its simplicity. this is what anons should train on more. its simple subject with small, yet complicated shapes. no need to do gigantic projects, especially early on.
>>7684234 (OP)HOW DO I GET INSTANTLY BETTER AT DRAWING? I feel like I've peaked around here. Sure I can convey a character but it's nothing amazing. I have my notebook and a lot of time to practice right now, I did this one rn
I can make better drawings than Pic related but still, I feel floaty, like my drawing skill simply isn't solid enough
>>7684234 (OP)This was the latest one I had drawn before
ok, getting kinda tired, but did one more cartoonish style for tonight
a little too simplified for my taste i think. def needs more detail
>>7684355Based on your line quality at such an early stage I bet you're one of those women with autistically precise hand writing
>>7684343theres no other way than drawing a lot. copy something, then do it from memory, then combine stuff and change it from memory. its just a lot of learning. sure there is books and courses, but copying what you want to do is most a essential skill. like learning vocabulary.
>>7684360its ok but its not too great i def need to practice more. and for a while my handwriting got really bad because i developed psoriatic arthritis (even in my wrist/fingers) , but recently got on medication thats helped a lot!
i really want to learn some proper calligraphy some day!
>>7684318Hands are a motherfucker to get right. What I did to get somewhat proficient was just fill up several pages of hands in various poses. What I found (for me anyway) is that focusing too much on construction gets in the way of the reality of how hands move in space. Hands are difficult and in practice you will make mangled fingers with impossible anatomy, but its not an unreasonable amount of work to get decent. Just don't be afraid of seeing the failures.

Why is it that even aping technically "bad"/extremely easy styles like picrel is so difficult? Hypothetically, it should be a lot easier, right? But I run into all the same issues I do when trying for more proficient styles. It's just frustrating that there's no "low level" way to engage with drawing, you know?

>>7684467I usually use one 10mg capsule of balanced THC:CBN. You can get capsules in lower doses I think, like 2.5mg, if that's necessary. Alternatively you could look into infused oils for even finer control of the dose.
I don't really take it for anger reasons, just to lower my inhibition so I can get more experimental and loose. Ultimately your long term goal should be to find how to make drawing a fun activity. Doodling without much care for accuracy is a good start.
>>7684245Stop trying to invent your own style for face and proportions.

>>7684234 (OP)i didn't know how i wanted this lit when it was just line art. so i just filled the base colors in first and then i figured the energy balls would be the light sources. so i tried to light both characters with both light sources. the faces of the forms facing the lights are the brightest and then the shadows were the farthest away parts or the parts that the light wouldn't reach. but clearly something isn't right. if you can ignore the anatomy issues for now, in particular i'm confused on how to light their faces. maybe im just confused about the planes of the head in dragonball but this is really eluding me. maybe it's because the background? maybe it's because i didn't use rim lighting? the values and the hues both look completely wrong to me but i can't specifically understand why.
i took about 2 years off drawing it shows. it's a lot tougher than i thought to jump back in.
>>7684523I can copy things somewhat decently, but I still can't into appeal. I think appeal is like talent, some people can produce it almost effortlessly, their five minute doodles have more charm than the pieces I spend hours working on. I've done dozens of studies like pic related and yet I haven't been able to steal the appeal of a better artist, instead people keep telling me that my drawings are ugly, and I honestly agree, I don't think I'd save drawings in my style if I saw them in the wild. The poses were from my imagination, so they look a bit stiff. I'm having trouble drawing the shapes of the heads and hair.
>>7684684paper has a nicer grip than (etched-)glass, so you're more in control of your lines
some devices apply a default amount of stabilization to your strokes, so there's more disconnect between what your hand is doing and what actually happens on screen (especially noticible in the iPad / Procreate in my experience)

Who wants help, based redline drawer here, you will be graded and redline. Left hand edition
>>7684862>>7684873Ngl, I don't think the idea is good to begin with. By putting AND in the axe, you're giving the less relevant word the most importance/visibility, despite "crime" and "punishment" being in bright red.
Putting "and" in the axe also is also forcing you to flip the letters 90° right, which doesn't look good nor reads well with the rest of the text.

If you're going for realism, your art should apparently look 3D/form-ish even in just the sketch phase apparently. My shit always looks kinda flat/way off. Is it because of my lack of line weight? I don't have anything to show currently but is that how it's done without shading/rendering?
I've seen people make realistic looking lineart/sketches by construction, but when I do the same it always looks off. It doesn't help for me that when constructing the face, idk wtf to do next especially wanting to draw comics. All the lines/planes constructing the face and then it's like "what next".

>>7685808>pointillism seems super hard & prob a bit frustratingits only very time consuming. you do the shapes like with everything else you draw and then you fill it in somewhat slowly, because you dont want to slip and create a line or do to many close by and its just becoming a black mass like you can see here in one or two horns

I don't think you have to draw them taller necessarily but do keep in mind the size of the head if you keep your boys on the shorter side.
Funny you should lament your height character I'm playing around with atm I see as being around the 6'2" mark.
>>7685912in America that's enough to dwarf most guys I meet, or at least for our height difference to feel minimal
ideal bf height would be 6'4", or at least 6'3" so he's half a foot taller than me
if I were 5'3" then I could either date a guy my current height, or date a guy who's 6'3" and just fall in love completely. being made to feel small and helpless with a guy is just peak

>arrow on left, side of faceI think this is telling me to round out the shape of the face and shorten the chin, like you suggest with softer/rounder shapes?
>middle double arrowsThis is the advice you gave on making the brow ridge look more feminine; raise them off the eyes more so it looks softer
>arrows near temples/outside of eyebrowsThis is the one I don't fully understand. Is it just further clarification on the eyebrows, that they should be higher in general? I don't think it's the distance between the eyes/brows and the side of the face, or an instruction to add eyelashes or something since that's just detailing and not the shape of the skull. Sorry for all the dumbass questions but I really like the corrections you make and want to properly absorb what you're teaching me here. Oh one last one:
>two drawings on leftI'm not sure if one is supposed to be "bad" and the other "good" because they both look excellent to me. A lot of manga has and had detailed realistic rendering on certain elements. A lot of manga, for example, also has extremely accurate and realistic body proportions and rendering, and realistic detail on all environment with just a stylized face and head to top it off. Berserk satisfies this trope to some degree too. The stylization comes in the general design and action and depiction of movement.
The posted example definitely reads as a manga on first glance.
