I will draw better
Saw this dude doing daily studies and posting them, looked like a solid idea so I’m shamelessly stealing it. Gonna force myself to draw every day because my “progress” has been flatlining harder than my will to live.
Plan is: 20 one-minute gesture studies, slap a face on each one so I don’t get dead fish faces, then pick one sketch and actually finish it.

If you’ve got any critique or ideas for extra stuff I could add, just say it.

I'm going to start writing down what I actually think is wrong or good about my drawings. Until now, I've mostly used building blocks to construct my figures, but I’ve decided to shift toward gesture drawing and focus more on expressions. I want my art to feel more dynamic and less stiff.

The pose in the top-left lacks dynamism — maybe pushing the back further could help add more energy. The bottom-left pose has an awkward-looking right arm; I’m not sure how to fix it without rotating the torso. The other poses look okay overall, but still feel off.

I'm not sure why, but the standing pose with open legs looks off — it just feels awkward. The sniper pose isn't working either, but I’m not sure yet how to improve it. Maybe I’ll figure it out if the site gives me a similar pose again.

Do me a favor and pick any anatomy/ gesture book and copy the pages from there.

Hampton, Morpho who ever, because you're not really doing anything with the gesture drawings. You're not learning, you're not applying anything. This will amount to a waste of time, trust me I did the same thing for a while.

I found a free PDF of Hampton's book and read through a few pages. So far, it seems like he's saying similar things to what I've heard from YouTubers using S shapes, C curves, and straight lines for gesture drawing. I’ll keep reading, though maybe I’ll find something more useful further along. Thanks for the suggestion, and in the meantime, I’ll keep drawing.

I get where you're coming from with the 'draw on paper first' advice, but for me, digital is where I feel most comfortable right now. I started with pencil and paper, but I’ve been using a cheap pen tablet for a while, and I’m sticking with it until it dies. I think it’s important to just put things out there, even if they're not perfect. For me, it's less about waiting until everything's polished and more about learning as i go honestly i dont care if peaple say my art sucks i know that

yeah duh. And ignore the crabs, they hate to see someone doing what they can’t. However you should post all this on DAD or your blog instead of just dumping it here.
Drawing daily is only difficult for the first week or two. Eventually it will just become part of your daily routine and it will feel harder NOT to draw

I might start posting some of it on my blog eventually, but for now I just wanted to share and get feedback here. Makes sense about it becoming routine. I found a job recently, so I’m always tired and my routine’s all over the place, but I’m trying to stick with it. I might post some stuff on my blog eventually.

Daily Drawing Log

Alright, if anyone Is reading. Time for today’s art ramble.

So, I’ve decided to start leaving comments on my daily sketches, like someone suggested in this thread. Today’s batch… eh, not my best work. Could be because I messed with my tablet’s pressure settings, could be because I phoned it in. The randomizer also threw me some tough poses, but honestly, that’s not the point. The real problem is that they still look stiff and flat instead of having that 3D feel I’m aiming for. Haven’t cracked the code on how to fix that yet—if anyone’s got tips, I’m all ears.

On top of that, I promised myself a routine: 20 poses, 20 faces, and one full body a day, with the plan of gradually finishing the full body in detail. Lately, though, I’ve only been keeping up with the poses. No excuses—it’s just plain laziness. The last full-body sketch I tried? Deleted, because I hated it. I’ve been dodging the “finishing” part of drawing, and I want to break that by pushing through and completing even the ugly ones. Maybe they’ll surprise me.

Anyway, that’s today’s entry. Hopefully future-me can look back on this and laugh at how far I’ve come.

Daily Drawing Log

Today’s sketches feel a little better, but they’re still flat and kind of weird. I really need to lean more into C and S curves—pretty sure the poses will look way better if I do. The character sketch itself turned out decent, but the background is a total flop. Probably because I was thinking about the character first and didn’t have anything specific in mind for the setting.

On a side note, I went to my local market today and saw people eating, and it hit me—I’ve literally never drawn anyone eating. So, if I remember, tomorrow’s goal is to try a sketch of that. I also still owe myself the 20 faces I didn’t manage today, so maybe I’ll tackle those too.

If anyone’s actually reading these rambles, thanks for sticking around.

The wording a bit awkward and the grammar mistakes probably.

- First word "did" should be capitalized - though sentence would sound more natural if you omitted the word. If you removed it, the reader would imply that "did" should be there.
- "blow off" -> "blow"
- Second bubble - needs a period after "cage key". It would probably sound better as "cage's key"
- Remove "forgive me" - sounds off in this context. Maybe add it to the next sentence to be something like "I'll give you a kiss for forgiveness...<3". An alternate sentence would be "I'll give you a kiss to make up for it"

Keep at it - ESL's fuckin hard

Yeah… I kinda skipped writing these for a while. Feels like I’ve been slacking, but in my defense, I had a lot on my plate. Anyway, back to the art.

The poses today actually came out pretty good, I think. What I especially like is how the character sketch turned out. I drew him super fast, so he’s really rough and sketchy—but I actually love that look. The midriff and pecs didn’t come out great, especially compared to that skin-tight suit guy I did earlier, but with clothes it’s always trickier anyway, so I’m not too mad about it.

That’s it for today. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll actually remember to write another one.

Not gonna lie, today’s drawing sucked. Everything felt super rushed because I started watching High School DxD for the first time and, well… there went my time. I still knocked out the 20 poses in the usual way, but the character sketch was done in like 20 minutes or less. No surprise it’s really rough. That said, I do think the face turned out kinda cute, so at least there’s that.

As for High School DxD—yeah, it’s actually really fun. But Issei just isn’t cute enough for me. Something about his look makes me feel like I’m watching a creep. The ecchi is solid though, no complaints there. Still, I can’t help but think a twink/femboy protagonist would’ve made the whole thing way better.

That’s all for today.

You kinda draw monstrously long legs sometimes. Like, this drawing looks good >>7742705 because while the legs are also cartoonishly long, there's still a sense of balance, the legs look well drawn, she's at least wearing heels and all that and the angle is slightly lower than her waist so you can pretend that it's because of the perspective, but this one... >>7744230 ...I know that there are artists who draw legs even longer, but this still feels like it's pushing it. Legs are usually like half the body height or slightly shorter, in anime artists often make them slightly longer. But she's like all leg...
If you really want that much leg, maybe you should put a bit more effort into them, like, drawing the anatomy outline first and then drawing clothes on top, because the shoes there look a bit odd where they're attached to her trousers... It's cool here >>7742705 and here >>7740653 though.

I worked really quickly on this one and didn’t put much thought into it. I didn’t even sketch the pose beforehand—I just started with a rough sketch and then erased the construction lines later. Today I only managed to draw one character. I was up until like 3 a.m. yesterday, so after work I was wiped. Came home, crashed, and only squeezed in this sketch. The legs really suck, but the rest is pretty decent—especially the face. I actually love how that part came out.

I’m way too tired right now, so I’m heading back to sleep. Tomorrow I’ll try to make up for it by doing 40 poses.

Knocked out 40 poses today, but honestly, I’m starting to hate them. They all look the same and kinda shitty to me. I’m thinking maybe it’s time to cut down on the poses and focus more on complete sketches instead. At this point, most of my drawings only take 10–30 minutes, with a bunch of breaks in between. What I’d really like is to actually put effort into a single drawing, spend days on it, and see how far I can push it. But yeah… that might just be wishful thinking from a lazy guy.

On top of that, I caught the flu, so I feel like garbage—but at least I’m not dying of the heat of summer anymore, so I’ll take it as a win. Also realized this marks my first full month of posting these logs, so congrats to me, I guess. Tomorrow I’ll celebrate with a pizza.

Lately I’ve been thinking that just doing sketches and poses isn’t really helping me improve anymore. It’s good practice, sure, but I feel like I’m stuck in the same loop—nothing’s really evolving. I want to start doing full, complete drawings instead.

I want to try rendering, add details, and actually spend real time on a piece—like multiple hours or even days if needed. I think that’s the kind of effort that’ll really push me forward, even if it’s harder and slower. Just quick sketches won’t cut it forever.

That’s where my head’s at today. Hopefully I can turn that motivation into actual progress soon.

Your lines are scratchy af. Try slowing down and thinking before you throw a line down. Visualise what you want to draw and then put down a confident line. Good job though anon you're doing well. I think it helps with gesture to watch other people doing it. If you can find some videos on YouTube of people doing quicksketch and talking through their thought process that might be useful. Daily(not realy daily) Drawing Log

Sorry for missing a few days—think it’s been about two or three since my last post. Doing poses has been tiring me out lately, and honestly, I’m starting to prefer sketching characters instead. I’m not sure if I’ll keep doing pose studies for a while or just focus on drawing characters in cool poses that come to mind.

In the thread, I finally posted a complete drawing, which is a win in itself. But it also made me realize that my weakest areas are still color, shading, and backgrounds. They really drag everything down—but even so, I’m happy I actually finished the piece.

Today, I wanted to draw a non-sexualized character, more in line with my older stuff. Back then, I was trying to build a really unique style—I used to give characters long noses and dress them in tuxedos or elegant outfits. For today’s sketch, I went with a femboy fishing, kind of a meme idea. Hopefully it turns out decent, though I doubt it. It’ll probably end up as a grayscale piece anyway.

On the bright side, I’ve started noticing more flaws in my drawings. It’s demoralizing, but also kind of good. Usually when this happens, I get a sudden skill boost not long after—or at least, that’s how it felt the other times. So I’m hoping that happens again soon.

P.S. I started watching the new Kamen Rider series. If anyone else here’s a fan—you probably know what I mean when I say the suit sucks. I hate it. And apparently, I don’t know anyone else who actually watches Kamen Rider, so I’m just ranting into the void here.

Holy crap anon, stop with the quick gestures. You had realized it wasn't helping you improve for a minute, but now you're back to it. It's not supposed to take this long before you notice any progress. Drawing is as much about *observation* as it is about mechanical input, and I'm not getting the sense in any of these that you're observing how the body looks.
I'm being serious here - this is a road to stagnation. Don't compulsively draw just to meet a quota. It can actually be better to take a break for a couple days if your heart and mind isn't in it. Because right now, you're only spinning your wheels in the mud right.
Try some deeper anatomy studies if you don't feel comfortable doing imaginative work right now. Anything other than the repeating the same failing thing over and over again.

Daily Drawing Log

Today I tried spending more time on the line art, and I think it came out decent. I also experimented with grayscale—and that part sucked. Coloring from grayscale in Krita feels weird; I can’t seem to get the right colors to achieve the effect I want. I already struggle with color, but this was honestly kind of sad.

Tomorrow I’ll probably try drawing something that isn’t just a standing pose for a change. I know I’m a slow learner, but someone told me I’ve developed “line confidence,” which actually made me really happy to hear. Even though I still prefer messy, sketchy lines.

right now my main goal is to get better at coloring and rendering.

My art is mediocre in comparison, but I'm at least getting somewhere.

Tried coloring again today, and it actually came out pretty decent this time. I still used the grayscale-to-color method, but it worked better than before finally starting to get a feel for it.

The second drawing I did, the one of the catgirl, turned out good overall, but the legs look weird especially around the knees and socks. I originally planned to give her jeans but changed my mind halfway through, and it kind of shows. The result ended up a bit messy.

It’s also not as expressive as I hoped, so maybe I’ll tweak it later to bring out a bit more personality. Still, progress is progress, and I’m happy it’s looking better than the last few.

It comes with the psd and brushes too, so I don't have to scramble for similar brushes. "Daily" :( Drawing Log

The poses today actually came out pretty good, but the final sketch just sucks. The leg looks weird again, and I’m really starting to notice how bad I am with shoulder attachments—they always end up looking like they’re stuck to a flat surface instead of actually connecting to a body.

I also tried some realistic shading today on an older drawing after watching a YouTube tutorial. The result was… uncanny. Not terrible, but definitely off. Still, I guess that’s part of experimenting—trying stuff that doesn’t quite work until it finally does.

Thanks! I used a pose book from Morpho for a while, but I got bored since it was mostly stuff I’d already heard from other people. The YouTuber I followed most was Winged Canvas and prooko. Right now I mostly just draw what I like it feels less like work and more like a hobby. But I think practicing poses from before definitely helped a lot!

Daily Drawing Log

I really want to get back into doing daily drawing logs, but I keep forgetting. Today, I’m planning to work on a complete drawing something I already had in mind: the guy on the skull. Originally, it would’ve been a Lovecraftian-style monster with corpses to show that he’s… feeding on them or something.

But a friend sent me a DTiYS on X, so I gave that priority instead. Hopefully, I can get back to posting more daily logs and stop being so lazy, drawing more every day instead of the little bursts I usually manage.

Also, side note I ended up watching Drifting Dragons today while taking breaks. Surprisingly decent anime, actually. Still, I know I should be spending more of my time drawing instead of... drifting through anime.

Daily Drawing Log

Today I drew the character on the wall, and it actually turned out pretty decent. After this, I’m planning to make a comic page where the gecko girl tries to eat a fly with her overly long tongue. The guy either gets disgusted and says gecko girls are gross or maybe he likes it and starts thinking about the infinite potential of that ability. Haven’t decided yet, but it sounds fun either way.

Lately, I’ve only been posting about one drawing per day, which is kind of sad but it’s also easier for me that way. I just draw what I like, and that keeps it fun. Coincidentally, I’ve started noticing some actual progress, especially with poses.

I also want to improve how I draw muscles and skin, but I always feel a bit shy about it I don’t really want my family to see me drawing what might look like gooner bait. But oh well, it is what it is.

With that, I’ll wrap up today’s log. Wishing everyone reading a good night—or a good day, if you’re in a different time zone.

Daily Drawing Log

The gecko drawing actually turned out really good! I’m pretty happy with it overall, but I still feel a bit weird about the background and especially the guy in the corner. I didn’t put much thought into him; he’s basically just a prop. I made him super simple and gave him white hair for contrast. In hindsight, I probably should’ve given him lighter skin too, but it is what it is.

What’s really missing from the piece are some strong, dark shadows. It feels a bit flat without them, so tomorrow I’ll probably fix that and push the values more.

I’m also planning to make a short 3-panel comic page next and post it on my socials once it’s done. That’s all for today hope you liked the drawing!

put references inbetween layers, to use in the middle of drawing, but don't post pictures with references themselves unless you have a good reason for it.

Using references is how you build your 3D kinesthetics, and if you have that, you can eventually even make art completely from imagination.

I would also advise to you, to paint a bit instead of just sketching, since that will teach you proper form, so then your drawing will come out more well built.

At this point, I should not call them Daily Drawing Log

I want to try following the 4-koma challenge on DAD while drawing at the same time—it sounds fun and like good practice. As for today’s drawings, I think they turned out decent overall. Lately, I’ve been feeling a slight improvement, which makes me really happy.

Yesterday I was feeling pretty down about some stuff, so I forgot to post. I still did a small drawing on my phone, though, and sent it to DAD just to keep the day count going.

Since this log feels a bit short, I wanted to share a little story from middle school, because I want to do it and I'm really self-centred.

Back then, we had an art class (in my country, art class is like a joke class where one does anything). One day, my teacher saw me drawing anime. Those were some of my first real attempts at understanding how to draw. Instead of encouraging me, she brought me to the whiteboard and used me as an example of what not to do. She said I had copied from others, told me to give up on art if that’s how I was going to draw, and then made me rip my drawing in front of the class. She even gave me a bad grade for it.

It really hurt. After that, I stopped drawing completely for about seven years. I only started again in 2022.

It’s strange how one moment can shape you like that. But now, looking back, I’m glad I picked up drawing again, even if it took me a long time.

Honestly, I couldn’t think of a solid idea, so I just whipped this out really fast. The joke? Yeah… It’s not funny. But here’s what’s happening in each panel anyway:

Panel 1: The pencil complains about having been a tree, and the notebook reassures it that it can still do cool stuff like write and draw.
Panel 2: The pencil wistfully wishes it could see a tree again.
Panel 3: The guy draws a three, making the pencil happy; maybe her situation is not that bad.
Panel 4: The guy erases the tree, and the pencil screams NOOOOO, crying.

Daily Drawing Log

My 4-komas have been getting worse day by day, at least, that’s how it feels. I honestly barely recognize the one from today as a joke. Maybe it’s just a rough patch, but I really hope they start improving again soon.

On the brighter side, I tried using shapes to build up my drawings today, and it actually turned out pretty decent. It made the structure feel more solid and helped me think about proportions better. I’ll probably keep practicing that for a while and see if it helps both my sketches and my comics.

That’s all for today, hopefully tomorrow’s 4-koma will make some sense.

Daily Drawing Log with funny dog i drew

This is probably going to be one of the last if not the last drawing log in this thread. I’ve hit the bump limit, so I’ll likely make a second thread at some point. Before that, though, I’m planning to start posting these logs on my socials too, mainly on X, so I can stay more active and keep sharing my progress.

As for today’s 4-koma, I actually like how the dog’s face turned out, it’s funny in its own way. The joke itself doesn’t land too well, but the rough sketch came out pretty solid, so I’m still happy with it.

Looking back, these two months have been really good and a lot of fun. I want to say thanks to everyone who read, commented, gave advice, or even just dropped by to lurk or crab it all made the experience more enjoyable.

I hope everyone’s doing well, both in life and in their own art journeys.
Good night to all and keep drawing.
