I cant draw and it makes me sad.
I have no visual library, no mind's eye and the opposite of a natural gift when it comes to visual arts.
I cant even imagine anything and my hand is unsteady. I grip my pencils like chrischan does.

What do i do? I really want to draw and have wanted to be able to do it since forever.

I'll do anything to get better.

most of the people claiming to have these are charlatans posing as savants. They use references. As long as you have working vision you're good.

Sure, though people's memory capacity varies a lot. Having greater recall will absolutely make you a better artist, its why Jung Gi was so good at what he did without construction even. I have shit recall. I muddle through pictures for weeks, going through reference after reference until I eventually get there, but this rules out making a living off art in the modern ways that other artists do. Kinda depressing.

Still, no excuses.

This website is literally designed for absolute beginners what the hell?

I ain't gonna sugarcoat it but if you got filtered on this then there's a high chance you're not gonna like drawing at all.

You like the end result but you hate the process, not tolerating it but hating it hence why you're not doing anything and finding any excuses not to draw, get a discipline or something.

Law is a pretty dry and unexciting topic. I concur it could be insanely useful to know but yeah. Hard to have a passion for something like that from the get go.

Repeat until you get something you would like to draw again. Think of why it looks as it does. And you have an Intellectual Property.

50 Hours is no where near enough time to be saying shit like this, OP. Stop being a dumbass opening threads like a Howie and draw.

You're problem is ADHD or some shit. This board isn't going to motivate you. You have to figure that out yourself. You probably didn't go to college, so you need to go learn HOW to learn and focus. Don't start with art. Try something like fitness and nutrition as a base, being active might set your mind right.

The meme is 10,000 hours to master anything.
13 months worth of drawing with no breaks or sleep or 2500 4-hour sessions of drawing. If you did that daily, that's ~7 years of practice to master!

Cry more when you've actually accomplished a year of drawing consistently for 4 hours a day and dont see any progress. If you can't draw 3-4 hours a day after really trying for maybe a few months, this obviously isn't for you. There are way more productive skills to spend your time learning anyway.

Im going to college atm, did pretty okay with hs and i run half a marathon every other day.
I also have worked 14 hours a day on some days before so idk. Objectively i can sweat it out and work hard. I just hate not having even a baseline level of skill . Just brootal and grueling.

I can do it i think and i'd like to. I'm just very much at a loss on how to go about it exactly as well as how to find a motivation. I dont need to be masterful at it. I'd like to get to "pretty good" if possible

I read the thread. If you're studying, then maybe you're overstretching here. Nothing you can do about that, but anyone here would advise you not to drop law for art. That would be retarded.
Anonymous No.7757862 [Report]
>>7757860
Ive just started so its chill. I have 15 hours of classes a week. I do have to learn a lot on my own but i could easily squeeze drawing in just as far as time management goes.
I usually default to idly playing through the same vidya ive played through already while listening to podcasts on the side. It's like a lobotomy
Anonymous No.7757866 [Report] >>7757868

your notion of 'pretty good' changes as your eye develops in parallel with your skill
there's no point in half-assing life, so I'd recommend droping law or art
Anonymous No.7757868 [Report]
>>7757866
I hadnt picked art up yet. Below 50 hours of practice total across YEARS.
If i pick it up proper and like it and be good at it i'd be down to do it instead of law. Doubt that'll ever be the case though.

Instead of mindlessly copying, i recomend analizing what makes you like something visually and studying the form and proportions of that thing in a simplified way, and compare it to real life objects.
Anonymous No.7757905 [Report] >>7757915
>>7757902

Anonymous No.7757915 [Report] >>7757948
>>7757905
Look at an image of an object you want to draw. Can you imagine how it would look like from angles it's not depicted? Can you imagine its individual parts being disassembled and looked at from different angles? Do you consider depth of facial features when drawing a face? Have you analized the same object in real life (like a spoon for example) from different angles to see how its different parts line up? Can you simplify an object into simple low poly forms, rotate it and add complexity again in a different angle? Do you think of looking for specific refs each time you find something you don't have the visual memory to draw?

Dude i don't know what's wrong with me, but i can't muster any sort of an energy to start at a task.
I have so much stuff to do beyond even just drawing. For some reason the only thing i've been soemwhat regular at is jogging. But i was meaning to draw for every day for the past two weeks i just can't get to it in spite of having plenty of time.
I barred all electronics and just stared at the wall and re-read books instead of working. I'm just so uninterested in putting in concentrated effort.

Tackle your procrastinating first.
Quit harmful habits that steal your time and make you miserable. Delete instagram, tiktok or other doomscrolling apps. Don't reward yourself before or after drawing. Find enjoyment in the act itself.
You will not find drawing stimulating if your dopamine cycle is fucked. Get that in order.

I'm OP and i basically had also just started. I hadn't drawn for more than 50 hours and not at all this year.
I've put in like 5 hours at a time and then quit for months/years once dissatisfied with the "progress". Been doing that even since i was but a boy.
Drawing from OP is from 2023 i think.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I can't hold on to any hobby for long and keep bouncing around between all kinds of hobbies never spending more than 2 weeks on one. Drawing is the one thing that I keep coming back to though, but with such an inconsistent schedule I never retain any meaningful improvement. The worst part is that it very likely stems from diagnosed clinical depression and chronic stress, because my living situation sucks right now and I can't create a right environment for myself to actually commit to anything creative. There's practically no way for me to reduce the friction and make drawing the easiest thing I can do at any moment.

i did as i told you to, and i didn't let my ego get hurt everytime i drew something bad. my art is not representative of me, i dont owe anyone good art, nobody's opinions can impact me, the only thing that matters is that i complete drawings often, and if i always feel bad about my art then i won't improve.

for tips, study from photos every morning. choose something you're struggling with but won't hate drawing yet. compare your study with your reference and critique it. take the critiques neutrally- if you get defensive or beat yourself down you'll stop yourself from improving. don't edit the studies, just keep the info in mind for the next drawing. limit your studies to a few seconds to two hours. also, watch how professionals draw. theres lots of threads with names of professionals to study from, though i watch marc brunet's, christoph young's, and wlop's speedpaints on youtube.

some people draw irl, some people grind for way longer, most people have different methods. but i find i'm improving faster like this.
