I disagree, the cultural differences are the significant thing, as well as labor competition. I don't think whites always undermine latinos anyway. if there's antagonism, it's mostly just due to many of them being poor, loud, and brown.

Culture is a meaningless abstract at the end of the day, superstructure emerges from matter and consolidates itself at its expense
I can learn a language, i can imitate a cultural set of mannerisms, or even a religion, but at the end of the day if i live among blacks i will either have to pick a relation of submission or one of assertion against them. Neither of us will just dismiss we are fundamentally different looking.

I think assimilation is almost always forced. Unless forced to do otherwise most people will default to their own cultural practices. If the German language wasn't banned and there wasn't significant social cost to speaking it, people would still be speaking German
Idk enough about latin america but if i'm not mistaken in some countries there are German communes that operate independently and have not assimilated like in Paraguay
With blacks sure I agree there is fundamental difference due to appearance, but latinos don't really look that different.

Well in a way it is, but sometimes to assimilate into a mainstream culture is simply more effective and better at mantaining you than just pearclutching minimal cultural differences.
Culture is good at existing because its good at preserving itself.
Self defeating cultures dissapear, replicating cultures replicate.
Some times cultures outcompete each other, for that, they normally appeal to lower common denominators that facilitate their spread
(Hence why marx thought the ultimate type of collective consciousness would be class)
At any rate, just look arround, people is competing at everything
