I imagine it'd be more profitable to sell them to hospitals and private organ recipients to make money rather than sell it as basically food. Although with the the former option you have to ask if this basically makes the government, and the hospitals associated with it an organ harvesting racket. Very strange customs. For any Europeans who think this is a schizpost, he's not joking. They are literally called "organ procurement organizations" (OPOs) and their entire business model is they essentially act as a middleman in taking organs from one hospital with a potential donor to another hospital where they have a recipient. They hang around hospitals like vultures waiting for an opportunity and the hospitals allow it because they make a lot of money on the extraction and transplantation surgeries.

The government heavily subsidizes these organizations and the subsidies are based on the number of transplants they facilitate. This provides an incentive for them to get as many organs as possible and apparently the targets have increased over the years to the point where they have a reputation for being extremely pushy and health care workers who deal with them at hospitals have a massively negative opinion of them and tend to opt out of organ donation at much higher rates than the general public.

I am an organ donor, but my organs are ironically worthless. It's funny, here in Oregon ANYONE can be an organ donor, but they do ZERO medical checks. Once upon a time i was diagnosed pre diabetic back when i was fat, this has remained on my medical record that exist on private and public hospitals ever since and despite being cleared of it and my current BMI being 23, i still claim to be pre diabetic, alcoholic, and smoker.

Recently i tested this out, i tried to donate blood and played dumb until they checked my record, system still tags me as prediabetic and got denied
