It's insane how deeply Americanised we are. The stores are Halloween themed and have entire isles full of candies. Some people even put decorations on their houses. I've seen so many kids outside in costumes. They knock on doors but they don't even say "trick or treat" they just stand there like fucking idiots because this isn't our culture, we just imitate.

I remember the first German Halloween. It was 1991, and the first Gulf War had brought protests and carneval was cancelled because of the war. Some companies sat on stores full of unsold costumes and thought what if we introduced Halloween into this country and try to sell the costumes later in the year? They lobbied the media to buy and dub Halloween specials of American TV shows and their plan worked.

Basically it was just like in this Simpsons clip:

Halloween isn't American though. It's akin to people repeating the lie that 'Coca Cola made Father Christmas start wearing red!'. That isn't true, but people who think they're clever repeat it and so keep the brand name in the public consciousness at a time when everyone is that little bit more spendthrift than usual.

Ironically, the 'Americanised' aspect of English society is thinking native English traditions and customs are from the US.

What parts did America invent?
Dressing up as monsters has been a thing for centuries. People here did it because tonight is the night that the cattle herds would be brought back from their Summer grazing in the mountains, to the Winter pastures back home. The young people who had been up there herding them for the last several months would disguise themselves to lower their odds of being harassed on the way home.
Trick-or-treating was also done for fruits and nuts here long before America was discovered. It's not even uncommon for Irish holidays. Wren Day had children dress up as wrens and go door to door asking for a coin, and there was another holiday celebrated in the Claddagh that had a similar tradition.

Of course it is. It's different for the Irish, too. The documentary is about the origins. It's not like Americans said one day "let's invent Halloween". They just misunderstood old foreign customs and turned them into a celebration and the sale of merchandise.

Thought it was a post made by Italy, same shit here, some neighbor kids knocked at my door, once, never did it again. Recent polls said 60% do "celebrate" it as another Carnival despite it almost replacing the actual All Saints day where people visit and greet the deads at the cemeteries.
Some parents were upset the school didn't allow their kids to dress up for the lessons...???????? Of all the problems rhe national education has.
Also just saw a shitty Poirot movie "A Haunting in Venice" where it shows an occupied Venice full of American chink and nigger kids celebrating Halloween with a parade on its streets somehow with all kind of masks and costumes and this EVEN under the Catholic nuns approval. I have no idea why did the movie went even more Netlix than Christie in here by adding black and asian orphans in a 1947 Venice.

Irish/scottish/celt/this part of tbe world holiday/celebration mashed with a few other harvest festivals observed before the new world was even known about and then went with immigrants to the new world and the likes of australia.
Costumes/guising was to mimmick the souls of the dead and be safe, later to emulate them and make people think you were them to recieve offerings (treats instead of livestock and such) or then playing a trick on someone as a spirit would.

It's a weird one that, being americanised to the point you paradoxically believe that a holiday of your actual roots and heritage is american imported nonsence. Saw that post doing the rounds in the normiesphere socials of an australian leaving a note out that it's an american holiday etc not australian so fuck off cunts, and people lap it up then fail to connect the dots on how australia came to be (which is funny because any other day of the year they'll bang on about australia and colonialism given half a chance) i think one fella came close and pointed it out along with it being mentioned in an old book by an australian /settler of note that pre-dates the formation of the us, or around about then. John someone I think it was?
