Thanks anon! Being an idiot I am it's a second hand Alice01 doll with a nice make up. It has its original boxing. The problem now is that I have no idea how to ship it back home, in Japan at the moment and I have to get things ready by 11am tomorrow. Do I risk it and wait for one of the post office to have a box that's about 90cm in length or do I just wrap my daughterfu in my luggage and stuff it with clothes? Please help, the stores are closed and km stressed out for my mind

If the post office has bubble wrap and you have the original box, shipping her home by wrapping that box in two boxes taped together to make a long box should be possible, but I don't know how Japanese regulations are about that... honestly at this point anon, if the box doesn't matter to you, I'd get the certificates/identifying information out and pack them into your carry-on beside her by wrapping her very well... still get some bubble-wrap and since you're in Japan, try to drop by a doll store (depending on where you are you might even find what you need at Don Quijote) and see if you can find a face cover like picrel to protect her on the journey. Having said all that, I have never traveled internationally with dolls, so I will defer to anons more experienced than I am on that front.

When I went, i had a suitcase that was a cm too short for my doll box so I lightly folded the end of it to fit and packed the doll separately. Just be careful of the dolls face when you pack her away, ideally shes in a bag so you dont need to worry about stains from your own clothes. You might get away with taking her on the plane with a backpack/carryon for added peace of mind.

I would endeavour to keep the original packaging. Your options are either to mail it out, or prep it to be checked in at the airport. The latter you could get away with a few turns of bubblewrap and a fragile sticker. You very likely will not be able to take the box as carry on. I barely managed to keep my DD body with me during my trip back from Japan and it's box was a fraction the size of my 50cm Azones.

If you're more paranoid about checking your Alice in, she should fit into a carryon bag. You might have to turn her into bit of a pretzel and/or remove her head though. Keep her as a nude doll without the wig and wrap her in something neutrally coloured.

The only metal in her is a bunch of S-hooks, the elastics arent going to look like random wires, and resin isnt dense enough to block x-rays to the point someone needs to look at it. You'll be fine, and people working security will have seen stranger things than a 2 foot tall bald and naked doll.

The doll could be a carry on. Important to protect her face against touch or rubbing on anything with a face shield. Or just remove the head and protect it in a container and bring it as carry on.
The empty box could be placed into luggage and you can fill the inside of the doll box with your other luggage stuff to maximize space.

I've decided to put her in one of those bounce storages since I gotta dip out for 4 days...I hope she's ok. I did do about 2-3 layers of bubble wrap before hand. Going to take her home via check-in and just sperg out on more bubble wrap. I'm so stupid for not planning this far ahead, been running around different stores and post offices all day just to see if there's a box that's longer than hers. I hope my dollfu can forgive me for leaving her like that. The lady at the counter was so delicate in wrapping her. Quite a few, although I've noticed a lot of people in the hobby are kind of bad at promoting themselves or listing their stuff online. It's an event where you can and should make your way around the sales room to see every table at least once, because you never know who happens to be an absolute artisan and just does not fuck with social media.

I see a lot of anons can't make it to Otakon but want to. Most of the recent meets have been relatively short notice, so my bad for that. I want to get the jump on this now so anyone who wants to can make arrangements to attend.

I will once again be hosting our annual Katsucon meet at Katsucon 2026. The dates for this coming years con will be the 13th-15th of February, so our meet will once again be on the Saturday of Valentines Day (the 14th, if you didn't know). It will likely be at noon again (subject to change). I'll fill out a panel application to see if we can get a room for it but it's unlikely to be accepted. We can theme the meet again. Open to suggestions, otherwise the theme will be Valentines Day relevant like last year. Hopefully this is soon enough of an announcement this time around.

What are the feelings on the DD-f3 2.0 body? I miss the nipples but if the rest of the new features are worth it I'll pick one up.

What are you looking for in your next doll, anon? Anything at all can be helpful in determining where to direct you. Azone girls are popular and lovely, but their measurements are a little different to most 1/3 girls, so finding clothes can be a bit trickier (loose things will be no problem, but tailored fits are hit-or-miss unless made specifically for that body.) If you're drawn to one in particular, they're great dolls to go with from what I've seen others post!

And vice-versa, too. If you're used to one, the differences between them might really catch you off-guard. Vinyl is light, flexible... resin is heavy, rigid. Both have pros and cons, and some might prefer one over the other, or have both in their household. (Some might even have dolls of other materials, too, like porcelain, wood, or plastic.) If you can get to a doll meet, a doll store, or an anime convention of sufficiently significant size, it's a great way to politely handle different sorts of dolls and learn what works for you, and what might not be to your taste. But if not, posting here with questions is always a good alternative.

This is really hard to answer because it depends on the company model and often sculpt. Some resin dolls can pose like a ballerina. Others are clunky. Some DD have been modified with aftermarket skeletons to pull off insane poses. Others are Smart Dolls.

If you want a specific aesthetic of a doll, it would be better to post what you are looking for (more realistic, more anime, etc, or post images of 'inspo' and then also state what level of posing you want to pull off, and people can help point you in the right direction.

For vinyl, Angel Philia is extremely posable and has some anime-style sculpts, but Elle looks on the young side. With some aftermarket parts (or a little DIY) you can use any head on any body, though. Beyond that, recent Obitsu bodies are pretty poseable, but they stopped making 60cm ones a while ago. I've seen people do absurd things with the stock DDf3 bodies, but the hip joint vexes me. Smart Dolls... look good in the limited range of poses available to them, but getting more from that frame will 100% require aftermarket parts or selectively disassembling the doll anytime you want them to sit seiza.

In the realm of resin, there's truly an ocean of options. Some things pose worse than a Smart Doll, some things pose better than a Real Action Heroes figure (with far better aesthetics.) Posing can vary depending on the tension in the elastic holding the doll together and if it's been modified (sueding and other joint modifications to improve friction to hold a pose better, and so on.) Aesthetics also vary wildly due to resin's ability to hold fine detail in casting, with everything from cute anime characters to high-fantasy concept dolls. In its case, I'd recommend just going to ACBJD (Alice's Collections), Denver Doll Emporium, or another dealer of your choosing and just browsing what's on offer. See what catches your eye aesthetically, and then see if they meet your other needs.

Do Chimikko legs get more loose with temperature or something? Both of them just keep falling out of their sockets, and they seem to have absolutely no friction when interior temperature is 30C. I understand that things expand with heat but this is a bit ridiculous.

Hi all, does anyone have any experience with the brand ufdoll? I have been looking for an anime-style doll with more mature looking facial aesthetics. At first I was only looking at dollfie dreams with faces ddh-09 and ddh-07 but something like pic related from ufdoll is exactly what I'm looking for and it's cheaper than what volks is offering for better or worse. From what I understand it's not a """true""" bjd because of the hinge construction but I'm okay with that.

The problem is I have no idea where to order the doll; I do see two sites https://dolkbjd.com and https://www.janesdolland.com/ offering them but both are on preorder with no specific dates on when they arrive. I would prefer the latter because they're based in the US but I am also moving houses in 3 months. Do these sellers ever actually receive stock and sell them to customers or are they perpetually on preorder? I would prefer to wait until I'm done moving and for the dolls to become in-stock to buy them directly but if the preorders take I while I suppose I can buy now and wait.

as a DDS owner, I'm so disappointed that they're now the exact same torso and bust sculpt for the two sizes. DD and DDS f3 torsos were almost the same, but those cm differences here and there meant the difference between SmD clothes looking great on a DDS and tight on a DD. I won't be upgrading.

Jane's doll land is decently reliable, you can send her an email and ask when the preorder estimate is. Sometimes she orders from the taobao store, it gets shipped to her (usually with other orders), and then she ships it to you.
I've heard very mixed reviews on Dolk, especially the english site, they aren't fake but customer service is apparently very poor. Basically, both are legit sites, but you will have better luck with Jane communicating/if anything is wrong with the order etc.

The best thing to do would be to buy the doll off taobao, or secondhand on xianyu, using a proxy, but if you've never done that before it might be daunting. Pre tariffs buying the doll off taobao yourself through a proxy was definitely cheaper, but I'm unsure of how things are now.

For quality I don't know much about UFdoll, but don't buy the tan ones, the skintone is painted on rather than the material being tan. The dolls aren't resin, I believe they are PVC.

Sorry I've got no experience with ufdoll but I just wanted to drop a quick warning to not use the american version of dolk, they're a different company from the japanese dolk and have been known to pull extremely scummy moves. Like selling preorders for full set dolls when they know that the full set is sold out and they'll only get the basic version, not notifying the customer about this until the order is fully paid and shipped and then offering the difference in price as a store credit instead of a refund.

Also to add, the invisible stand arrived.
It works quite well, but there is a steep learning curve involved to balancing the doll and manipulating the illusion of the invisible stand. I think its pretty impressive when you pull it off though.
It really does make the doll look free standing in the open.

NTA but yeah it's a different stand. I bought one while I was in Japan two years ago. Haven't used it much because, as the other anon said, it has quite a learning curve. I've had my doll fall over a couple times trying to use it.
It's basically a small plastic rectangular block (3d printed I think) with a heavy weight inside, with a long bendy arm coming out of it and a Y attachment on the end (the parts of which can be spun around or removed). I think it could really use some rubber corners on the edges of the block to keep it from sliding. That was my main issue when trying to use it on a hard flat surface (a board of plywood with vinyl floor tiles on top). It probably works much better on a carpet like in anon's photo above.

There is also one with longer arms on the end and a bigger, heavier block; and a smaller one for 1/6 (pure neemo) dolls, but both of those are out of stock currently.

Its a different type of stand.
I made a pic to show you how it works.
The doll's legs and the black box forms the total base area touching the floor.

The wider the base, the more stable.

But for the stand to be invisible, it needs to be narrow-end facing the camera and less stable because the base total area is smaller. Its a trade off and requires some effort to use.

The black box is an anchor and quite heavy. It weights about 2X the doll's weight.

It seems to work fine on resin.
The only problem I noticed is that if your resin doll's joints/string tension is too loose, then your doll's hip and leg joints might just give out and fall over.
This stand can only prop up the doll standing in a less conspicuous manner.
It can't protect it from falling over on itself due to loose joints and loss of balance.

My girls tend to hang out on a square shelving unit that I have on my dresser. The shelves are big enough that they can sit upright in them, and there's enough of the dresser to safely stand on. One usually inhabits my computer desk and I rotate around whos in that spot.

for storage, i use a 28 3/4” x 68 7/8” ikea milsbo with just one shelf in the middle, plus 1/4” wide weatherstripping down the sides of the doors to keep out dust. i can comfortably fit 4-5 or so 1/3 dolls with stands in each section. the room is generally pretty dark unless i’m in there sewing or whatever. then in my home office, there’s some built in open shelving where i usually have one or two dolls keep me company next to my work computer. it’s not the best, but i use a doubled up piece of fabric as a makeshift curtain to block light and kitchen smells when i’m not in there.

Yeah she was very cute. I don't think that expression is that uncommon, but it was the overall presentation that got me. I especially love the button eyes (wish the seller would make and sell those alone), and that wig is a perfect match. I would have tried to find the same or a very similar wig to preserve the look if I had won the auction.
Anyway, I had been thinking for a while that I'd like to make an elf doll some day, though I wasn't really actively pursuing one aside from pre-ordering an outfit a few weeks ago that will ship in October. For the wig, I was hoping to find a green one, but it's extremely hard to find one that's the right kind of green, and a good hairstyle for an elf. When I think of elves' hairstyles, I think of long hair intricately styled with braids and adornments. Since green was hard to find, I went with my second choice which was blonde. There were a few decent ones, but then I found this one on DOLLCE that I thought was perfect. It's a one-off wig designed by an otaku beauty salon, so it was super expensive as far as wigs are concerned.

Assuming you're talking about ABS parts, E6000 won't be a good bond. Loctite 435, 402, 401 would be my choices of adhesive. Applied delicately with a needle under magnification and securely fixed and cured fully before stressing, you'd get the best shot at a durable repair. Otherwise, pay up for replacement parts.

They are easier to handle, somewhat durable, tons of replacement parts, customization, and tons of clothes are widely available.

The niche resin string dolls brands might look really good in promo pictures, but they tend to be harder to handle, pose, and they won't have as much customization. Those dolls are intended for the hobbyist to make or sew whatever is needed. There might only be a small handful of clothes, parts, and accessories for those dolls. Some resin dolls may require extensive customization to handle and to even hold a pose well.

So there are not too many dolls with swappable faceplates. Partially it has to do with production issues and cost of materials, resin is expensive, molds suck to make, and very few people purchase multiples after a certain price point. I can think of like....two sculpts in resin that had swappable, one of which was Unoa.
Most people in vinyl often buy multiple heads blank (lower price point) and then have them commissioned to have different expressions. If you are new to the hobby however, I suggest the latter, as it will be cheaper and potentially easier to sell if you decide this isn't for you.

You don't need a set of faceplates/heads with different emotions, you just need to be creative with positioning, props, and posing. How you compose the picture will communicate different emotions even if it's the same set face. Which mostly takes practice to figure out

If you want to do lewd stuff, then you might as well go for a proper 1/3 or 1/4 doll body that can be posed properly. Also, there's a lot more options for them in terms of underwear and clothing sets. Pic related is from Haku1923, one of the more infamous doll photographers that work with 1/4 dolls. Additional reason: it's a lot harder to sew tiny clothes than it is to sew bigger clothes (especially Yo-SD, I don't know how anyone does it.) A lot of people in this space are hobbyists doing this on the small scale and are able to valuate their time the way everyone could if Chinese slave labor didn't skew the perception of how much time and work goes into crafting apparel. At the end of the day, you can get cheap stuff that looks okay most of the time and is serviceable. Or, you can invest in high-quality, hand-made, individually-tailored pieces by a highly-skilled craftsman and meant to last a lifetime. (Personally, both is good! Invest in good doll shoes, imo. Hjalp mig, dollfriends. The chimikko I have has a problem where the legs fall out with the slightest change in pitch or roll. The crosspin barely holds them in, and there's zero friction with the hips. Any way I could potentially increase friction on either front without causing too much damage to the body?

Glad to see the DDf3 hip joint is still fiddly as ever. Supposedly if you fit the hips onto the peg just right, they will "click" together to let you know it's in place. Hopefully someone will be able to give better advice on making it do that -- assuming you've got it locked in place properly, a thin layer of clear nail polish or acrylic glue (allowed to dry before reassembly!) can help you increase friction by degrees to fine-tune posing!

Are you getting confused about people photoshopping different expressions on heads? I've seen multiple people shoop closed or different eyes, blush, open mouths on heads to make "variations" of the head, but I've never seen any people commission multiple expressions.

Started on a phone (pic related, just used it because HOTAS), eventually went up to an el cheapo DSLR with some similarly cheap used lenses.
Macro is for very small, very close-up pictures. Wider angle lenses are better if you actually want the whole doll in frame, since you're likely to shoot pretty up close anyway.

No. It's very rare, much like the resin molds with different expressions, but people do this.
I've seen several Pukifee people do this, DD-01 owners, and more.
Lurk people who do sculpt commissions more often and you will very uncommonly see this sort of commission show up, maybe a handful a year.

Have any artists you can suggest? Pretty much all the faceup artists I follow do auctions/premade heads only. I imagine keeping the proportions consistent requires a different skillset.
