It's made for 410 only, so the frame is super slim and lightweight. Feels like a Chiappa Little Badger. 410s made on a 20 gauge frame are always too heavy and clunky.
If you're looking for 20 or 12 gauge, plenty of other Chinese and Turkish coach guns with short barrels.

I do have a custom 14" single shot folding 28 gauge shotgun, but i'll need to grab it out of my range locker to take photos.

I just took my 410 reloading process and scaled it up slightly.

I put 23 grains of Hodgdon's LilGun into a primed 28 gauge case. Put 2 felt 20 gauge wads (didn't have any 28 gauge wads handy, so i used the ones for reloading my Snider) on top of the powder with a dowel and compress.
Melt some beeswax in a jamjar and pour the molten wax into the case overtop the wads, fill partially.
Take a 54 cal muzzleloading round ball and drop it into the case on top of the still molten wax. Allow to cool. Round ball should be firmly embeded in the wax, substituting for a crimp.
Done!

The rounds are very accurate out to 25 yards with a bead sight, easily hit a 1' target.
I tried 2x musket balls in one shell as a possible bear load. Just as accurate, and only about 2" of spread at 10 yards.
Kicks like a 12 gauge target slug.

The only wooden stock I know of with an adjustable length of pull is the Woox Furiosa, but it's still mostly metal. They also have the Exactus and Cobra, but I believe those only have cheek risers. They are almost half the price though, so there's that to consider.

I feel like anything you need a gun for in the woods would be better served by a shotgun; just carry birdshot, buckshot, and slugs with you depending on your situation. Or carry a regular .22 strapped to the outside of your pack for easy access if you're hunting small game/tin cans. The only times I see the ruger backpacker being suitable is if you're keeping it in a survival bag or doing a day trip to plink in the woods and don't want passing hikers getting nervous and calling the cops. It doesn't seem reliable either; 2 of the first 3 videos I watched about it showed it misfiring multiple times.

That's what i got my folding short barrel 410 sxs for. A gun meant to sit in the pack and be carried around hiking even if i don't think i'll need a gun. So lightweight, you almost can't notice you're carrying it.

The one advantage a 22 will have is ammo volume. You can carry a fuckton of 22 rounds (even more if you buy shorts) in the space occupied by one or two 12 gauge shells.
My choice of 410 was a compromise on that. I can carry 34 assorted shells in an empty 9mm box. 12 gauge would only fit maybe a dozen shells in that space.
410 slugs are still powerful enough to take deer, and with birdshot i can take flying or ground game.
