To the anon in the QTDDTOT asking about .308, you can't go wrong with a Tikka T3x for just hunting, or a Ruger American, they're very accurate and dependable. Solid choices. If you want a semi, AR10s are a good choice for semi auto .308s, but kinda boring. If you want SOVL, get a CETME, FAL, or M14

On the contrary it makes shit easier. A lot of the major service apps now accept US passport ID number and phone number for verification. Getting a tourist visa is now piss easy as of 2024 when they removed the requirements of having an itinerary and plane tickets already booked.
Hainan Island/province is now a visa free destination accessible to many countries for 30 day stays as it is being turned into a large commerce and shipping hub of sorts.

Got myself an Imbel upper but it has an inch pattern gas block that doesn't line up with rear sights correctly. So I'm left with the following options from cheapest to most labor intensive

>Get inch rear sight
>Get complete Inch lower
>Remove barrel assembly completely and replace with a Metric
(I really don't want to interact with boomer know it all smiths and pay them 500 to somehow fuck it up anyway). And before someone says FAL assembly is idiot proof. I'm not going out and buying all the tools and jigs etc to work on 1 gun. Last option is pull the inch barrel to sell, replace with an imbel assembly and hope it lines up correctly without needing real work done

yeehaw! from Mukumbura

i have a question, /k/:
do you think a max. open gasport is better for accuracy because the whole gun is shaken less / lower bore oszillation
or
is a max. closed gasport better because the bullet leaves the bore faster than any impulse of the recoil/bore vibration can take effect?

Agreed. Seems like even the chink copies of lizard F1 style jackets are comfortable, that thin HBT material is great. I'd just ditch the Tomb Raider backpack for something else.

On the sidenote, Chinese Type 63 chestrigs are verified to fit 5 FAL or G3 mags and are decent alternative to rhodie rigs.

I seriously doubt any of that matters in a pencil barrel military service rifle with perhaps a 4+ MOA acceptance standard.
What I believe matters more for your practical accuracy is setting the gas regulator just right for smooth cycling with mildest possible bolt carrier slams for better shot follow-through.

Don't forget to check if the rifle still ejects and chambers reliably in different shooting positions, though! I found that my SLR behaves quite different whether shot standing, prone or sitting supported, pretty sure it's because of the changing resistance that my shoulder gives against recoil.

Type 63 rig is not intended for stripper clips BTW, it loosely holds curved 20 rd 7,62x39 mags. That's why it is a nice snug fit with FAL, SLR and G3 mags. Don't have any M14 mags and .308 PMAGs to try those, unfortunately.

Sarco has belgian ones for 35 bucks plus shipping, that sounds more like a price I would like to pay. Be warned that Belgian ones are a bit different from US, having only 4 mag pockets shifted further back, on the other hand they're easier to go prone with and have their own integral shoulder straps. Sturdier material on pockets, too.
Didn't know Portuguese made their own, always thought they were US milsurp. Looks like an exact copy of the US ones with slightly greener color. Portuguese surplus is kinda scarce so I believe it could well be worth 80 bucks, just not worth it for me.

M14/M1A rifles legitimately suck ass. Seriously.
They're overpriced, unreliable, and FAR less accurate than coping fudds on gun forums make them out to be. Expect around 4MOA out of the box if you're lucky.
AR-10 platforms are massively superior in every way. Even a ratty old PTR-91 parts bin special absolutely crushes a $3000 M1A in terms of reliability and accuracy.

I bought a scout squad over 10 years ago and ended up selling it after a couple years.
Over time I've noticed that on /k/ and every other forum, most other people do as well.
It's one of the most common rifles that people end up regretting and selling later on.
The problem is that it looks cool and feels nostalgic, but as other people have said, the actual quality and performance is a complete let down.
Go with something else, .308 AR or maybe a DSA, SCAR if you can afford it, skip PTR/Century.
Even a Garand or .308 Garand would be a better choice.

very interesting point.
i usually shoot benched, rifle stock/handguard on a rest.

The following I've noticed shooting both my 20" ar15a4 and sks:
for group sizes with the ar15 it doesnt matter where the handguard rests on the support, accuracy/group size is always the same.
contrary, the group sizes of the sks varies strongly, depending on where the stock rests on. only the small area between magazine and bayonet groove gives small groups, every other point of rest results in significantly larger groups.

gonna pay attention to this with my l1a1 next range time

if a semi auto in .505 biggs would make a nice battle rifle?

Just conceeded to a background check for a new job and with a click box checked, I got a copy of the report. Nothing striking, I lead a simple life. Boring, really. They only went back so many years so ran records in a random county in a state I haven't lived in for a _very_ long time, in a county i never lived in! Had to make their "due diligence" fill out the sheet. Lol. A real report would be much more thorough. No doubt every pee test, vaccination, magazine subscription, blood donation, border crossing, hospital admission, late payment, everything-you-can-think-of, is in a database that has already been hacked by the chinkos. I wouldn't worry about it.

I hope you have all been well frens. I just wanted to let you know I will more than likely not be posting here anymore. I have been have been disillusioned with this hobby and many other things in my life for a few years now and I only recently really realized it. I don't think firearms will completely disappear from my life, but having a collection larger than 1-2 firearms, or being as involved with them will no longer be the norm for me. I don't know what I will do or where I will go, but I know I want to find something new that brings joy to me again. I guess where I am going with this is to just say going forward if you do not see a timestamp from an Owlpost, assume it is not me. I also just wanted to say thank you to all of you who I have talked to on here over the years. Goodbye frens, I hope you all have wonderful lives and to take care.

EOTech is fine if that's what you like.
Aimpoints are usually better for battery life, durability, and simplicity, but the EOTech isn't a bad choice.
I would lean towards something with a little magnification if possible, LPVOs really shine on BRs.

I have decided i want a nightforce for my scar. Only question is do i get the 4-16 or 4-20? Higher top end is kind of nice but im not sure how much more it gives me in terms of landing hits. Furthest range within a reasonable drive is 600m. Theres a 1000m range if i deceide to drive like 3-4 hours north.
4-16 is also a lot shorter which is always nice.

I'd skip both and get a 1-8/10x LPVO for a 17, unless it's a dedicated bench shooter or a 20.
More than that is kind of overkill for magnification as a general BR setup and a 1x setting is great for carbine-style shooting within 100 yards.
LPVOs really shine on BRs like the SCAR in my experience and I've had a lot of fun with the Vortex 1-10x from 50 out to 400 yards.

Fair enough.
I'd go with the 4-16x in that case. 20x is a bit overkill outside of PRS/competition and usually the lower mag will have a little better FOV.
Try Spuhr for the mount if you're planning on mounting the dot, their ISMS system is a lot more stable than the ring mounts will be.
Gonna be a heavy set up.

Not to me it doesn't. The M16 family of rifles is the coolest rifle ever and I don't think there's anything that can change my mind.
>Dude I'd sell you mine now for 1300.
Dude, you should have told me like a week ago. I put in an order for a Sabre-10. I'm waiting for my local funstore to receive it. It's not entirely an old-school AR, but I like the more traditional look such as the fixed stock and the 20' barrel.

I think i read the ideal is 2x for every 100m. 20x would be perfect for the yearly trip up to the km range but im not sure the scar has the legs for it.
Part of why im on the fence is because i could talk myself into the 20x but i also know im making a couple of jumps to do so.

>>63949654
Id like to get into prs style comps but there arent any nearby.
Ive been having a hell of a time trying to find a mount. I have the rail space so i dont want a cantilever mount but they dominate the market. I do want a t2 on there, its cool and thats half the battle.
I know im pushing it much further into a dmr/long range than it was designed for but its fun.

I bought it before the 20 was even released, i probably shouldve saved up back then but i was young and had deployment money. Such is life.

I tend to have good luck with cheap guns. There's a difference between the bottom of the barrel Freedom line that's constantly on sale for $300-500 and the Sabre/H&R stuff. Even "bad" guns are just meh to me.
>Something tells me a guy who can afford an original Sudanese 80s kit build.
Not that anon. I wish I can afford stuff like that. I can afford $1,300, because that is how much the Sabre cost. Of course, I can't afford to constantly drop that much on guns like it was nothing. I'm not rich. I already spent way too much money on gun shit.
>(comes with 2 mags btw)
Good, because I only have the LR308/SR25 pmags and not the M14/proprietary mags that the Armalite pattern AR10s use.

Thanks for the contact info. I am going to have to think about it though.

I've been using TS for a while. Bought quite a bit of stuff ranging from high dollar purchases and trades to small stuff. I've yet have a bad experience but I'm also pretty careful and transparent with sellers and buyers. Best practices are usually ask for pics and timestamp, and confirm all of it over text or email correspondence. There is basically no recourse if you get ripped off beside a bad review and notifying the proper authorities with proof and evidence.

Hmm, good to know. A while ago I had bought something from someone on ebay who had also listed the item on tacswap, after confirming they were the same person I felt a lot better about it since they had stellar feedback. I am getting sick of GB and my state's guntrader page, besides listings declining in quality, I'm really sick of scam listings or scam offers from what are probably indians judging how they write.

I've got one. Handguard had an annoying amount of wobble where it rested against the receiver until I shimmed it. Aside from that I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it much, only got to put one mag through it but am gonna shoot it some more on the 19th. Only failure I had was a FTE on the last round, the casing almost got out before the bolt wedged it horizontally in the ejection port. Pretty sure that might be magazine related.

No experience with the .308, but I have used their 9mm and 45 STELTH ammo and it's the quietest subs I've shot with my suppressors.
Then I read a bunch of reviews online saying their quality was/is bad and had a lack of quality control and it since scared me off buying anything more.
Seeing SGAmmo discount it kind of raised a red flag for me, I was on the fence about buying some, too.

According to Grey Market Research, the top of the receiver shelf needs to be .50" or less to the top of the safety cutout for super safeties to work. What would be a reliable setup?

So I'm looking at making an AR-10.
I'm looking at buying a PSA lower with the B5 CPS stock, I'm unsure about the upper but I would want something that's good quality and for an optic I've been thinking about a LPVO but I dunno if that's good for 300 yards

I would buy in matched pairs. Maker to maker will be "just off", just enough. Oh, they'll mate up... But donkeys and horses can do that. Decent irons are good to 300yrds, so start there.

Just be sure to inspect everything in detail. Make sure the gas block is set correctly, screws are torqued, barrel is torqued, nothing is cross threaded, nothing is loose, barrel is rifled, etc etc. If it is, make sure they repair/replace under warranty. If you have the money definitely take it to an armorer who can check all of this and more. PSA is notorious for not having very good qc, but when they work they're very good for the money

Keep Shooting uses some good metric mag molds for their stampings, they're basically like Cold War Era new mags with an easily scratched bluing, so if you use them often enough and in some kind of abrasive canvas rig they'll wear in like surplus mags. I don't have any DSA mags to compare them with, so I can't compare finishes.

FMP G3 barrel came in from Atlantic today. They only offer 1 condition: milsurp, so that's what I bought.
I don't have pics but it came in excellent condition. It looks unfired, virtually no surface rust (the tiniest bit that came off by rubbing it, might not even be rust), minimal galling from pressing the barrel back out of the trunnion, overall a 9/10.

You can find really cheap vinyl Bundeswehr surplus pouches, but I think they use ALICE.

Single or double?
Eagle Industries double STANAG pouches will fit a G3 mag if you cut the elastic off.

I really want to get a Scar-H.

Should I sell my Super Vepr (.308)?

Its the first rifle I ever purchased and owned.

Absolutely...fucking not. Those Veprs are super interesting and rarer by the day. SCARs are just more polymerslop modern rifles.
FYI I know people say Veprs are hard to find mags for (they are), get some from CSSpecs directly. Email the guy, super nice to work with.

Hold fast anon, there will be time for the scar in your future.

I don't understand why some of you retards want to get rid of your nice rifles for generic bullshit like the scar. It's a dime a dozen rifle whose cost is inflated by nonsense and video games. You want to do the equivalent of when that guy threw away like a 70s or 80s firebird to get his wife a 2015 audi. Don't do it like everyone else said.
