For whatever reason he was convinced the lever pulls out upward instead of sideways, I stopped him to explain how it works and he keeps pulling it up. No it does not. If you have ever shot a gun in your life, you would understand that is not how it works. As long as your rifle is built properly, and doesn't rattle like a bag of marbles, then the handguard is perfectly stable for an optic, and is extremely common in the U.S. military on scout rifles/DMR's with long eye relief.

most of the time you can just hold the upper between your legs and wrench it off. Using a reaction rod is also fine but a barrel clamp is ideal for removing muzzle devices. It's technically possible to unscrew your barrel from the extension if using a reaction rod when removing a barrel nut/muzzle device, though unlikely (since you would have to be applying more torque than the barrel extension was installed with).

I mean for simple muzzle devices it's generally not necessary, you can just hold it between your legs but we're already discussing going out and buying zev blocks and reaction rods so I wanted to mention it. You don't need some special tool, most "barrel vises" are simply an overlay for your normal vise jaws. They're pretty cheap:

SCAR gas jet is effectively a replaceable gas port for the rifle. So throughout the life of the barrel the gassing doesnt increase which is very nice. More so the gas jets are not comparable to AR15 adjustable gas blocks. the SCAR has an adjustable regulator that is external and easily adjusted for significant gas conditions. A noveske switchblock a decent analog in the AR space but its still much smaller and lacks the gas jet component. Some generations of 416 block get the size right but still lack jets out of the box. Rifle speed adding an almost FAL style block to the rifle might technically accomplish the same gas adjustability as a SCAR but in terms of execution it is wholly inferior.

Gas jets thread into the gas block and allow a % of that 3mm through. Generally between 1.5 to 2mm worth of that gas passes into the two position regulator which can then be used to further restrict it.
Shorter barrels get a larger gas jet to compensate for less dwell time.
