It's always about unjammable, high bandwidth encrypted non-spoofable datalinks and their reliability when it comes to remote anything and even today this absolutely baloons the cost of such projects that goes beyond the program goals and benefits and kills them.

Even on a more limited scale this is a major part of modern cruise missile cost.

I would almost agree. On some topics you can have some really good quality discussions (nuclear weapons for example, and submarines/naval stuff) but just about anything else is inundated with war tourists, shills for Russians, shills for Ukrainians, and posters who's only experience with anything military or weapon related is YouTube or video games or anecdotal at best.

Fun fact, to my knowledge they didn't have radios to communicate amongst each other; the only radios were in the platoon leader's tank. To communicate internally within the platoon, it was hand/arm signals or signal flags. And they still regularly destroyed Abrams platoons. Really impressive honestly.

Command vehicles with follower vehicles is indeed the future
Rheinmetall has cargo trucks where one guy can drive 3 separate cargo trucks through automation (trucks copy human driver route and adjust to keep on it) and some degree of remote controlling
Patria is doing something similar but with their AMV variants that have 120mm mortars. Seems to be command+single follower setup with remote/linked firing based on what they've put out so far.

You generally keep putting shells into a disabled enemy tank until there's a visible fire or something explodes or it's otherwise very obviously 100% for sure dead. So if it's your tank that gets knocked out, you might decide it's safer to get the fuck out of it.

Basically spend all the money on ships and planes leaving nothing left for tank development in terms of resources.
Even then though they did have a huge influence inter-war even if they didn't adopt a whole bunch of said designs.
Carden Loyd basically was the template of all tankettes that you saw throughout the war.
Vickers 6-ton was copied by everyone as the basic ass light tank.
and the Vickers A1E1 was copied by everyone who thought multi-turreted tanks were a good idea.

Post WW2 the Centurion and Scorpion were highly influential and popular but after that yeah, trash.

Slovenia mentioned! Those are M84's, local variant of the T-72 built entierly in Yugoslavia, and they have some pretty modern FCS systems, superior to soviet ones at least. Also exported to Kuwait where they fought on the same side with the Abrams in the gulf war and likewise performed admirably in firing excercises. Always found it funny how NATO likes to use them as the baddies in excercises.

Never expected to come across this. Your opinion on working with the slovene army? There's a lot of money being dumped into it right now. Hilariously I've also seen a study conducted by the MoD on the potential to modernize the M84's which is a bit of a joke but its out there. Considering we were modernizing the T-55's into M55's in the 90's it checks out.

They're fun to be with, they certainly know how to live it up in the field. While everyone else sleeps in their vehicles, like I mentioned before, they instead all sleep in a massive tent together and stay warm and dry.
They also love their coffee and field cooking. Lots of cheeses and smoked meats to be had (and occasionally some vodka)
They perform very well in my opinion, especially considering the communication limitations they have with both us and themselves. I'm always happy to have them attached to us; they don't have any night fighting capabilities (no NVGs or thermals) so they simply refuse to fight or move at night, which I never mind because it means no damn night missions and I can get a decent night's sleep.

there was some even closer divergent evolution with the Marder I since the free french tried to do the exact the thing with the Lorraine 37L as the germans did but they used a British 17 pounder. Sadly the allied Marder didn't work out even though it would fit right in with stuff like the Valentine Archer.

Even more comically both the Free French and Germans tried to turn the Renault UE artillery tractor into an SPG with the germans using a Pak 36 and the Free French using a 6 pndr. Both were so massive the crew had to dismount and fire it using a pull cord.

Got to poke around some Slovakian BMP-2s and yep, they're very small. I couldn't sit in the back, period.
One of the tank commanders in my platoon at the time was a Slovakian who immigrated over as a child not long after the fall of the wall. Joined the US Army in 2001, was there for the invasion of Iraq, did 10 years in the US Army, got bored, and decided to get out and go back to Slovakia. Got there and realized he didn't know anything else, so he joined the Slovakian Army and ended up on BMPs. Did that for 6 years, then decided to come back to the US Army. Hell of a story, hell of a guy, always with the most insane stories to tell. I miss him.

When we got to the base in Slovakia (LeΕ‘t, I think?) our resident Slovak still knew a bunch of the Slovakian troops there from his time in the army. He let one of the drivers in our platoon drive around a BMP-2, which I don't think I thought I've ever hear in the US Army.
Loved Slovakia, was a great time and great training.
