Its been over three years but I was almost shot to shit by the AK of a culturally diverse fellow in my city center. Ever since that night my relationships have deteriorated, I have night terrors and cant hold down a steady job. No, I was not always a loser. I am starting to feel like I have some sort of PTSD and need to a: see a therapist, which I cant afford, and b: have some (legal) weapon for home defense, which I also can't afford. My country is "relatively" open minded in this regard though. I'm guessing if I go all gofundme here, you'll tell me to KMS. But I'm kinda lost and don't know what to do, guys. Any recommendations?

One of my teachers in uni is from Spain and one day while he was riding the train/subway with a neighbor a bomb blew up the cart they were in. You need to confront your issues directly. The problem you are facing right now is that you are trying to distance yourself from the issue and pass it off to other people in the hopes of getting an answer that allows you to avoid confronting the problem.

It'll never work. You will not be fixed by therapy, drug treatments, or having some retarded pencil pusher telling you that you need to do breathing exercises. What you need to do is confront what happened, why you survived, and then take it as a lesson of life... and move forward.

Talk about what happened, and talk about how you feel about it. Say these things out loud to another human being. It will help. My great grandfather was a German speaking Austrian from the northernmost point of Austria-Hungary, Moravia. My family was "removed" to Bavaria after the war. Honestly this. After my second deployment I really lost my shit for about 3-4 years. Straight into the booze. When I ETSd I started getting stoned all day every day. I was hyper reactive. Flunked out of college. I stopped going out. Therapy did nothing and meds made shit markedly worse. Eventually I just went cold turkey on everything and focused on my shit job, going to the gym, and boxing. Got promoted. Got a girlfriend. Made some friends. All my symptoms decreased to the point it’s much more manageable. I still have a nightmare every once in a while and there’s still some reactivity and anger flare ups but it’s a lot easier to handle. I really enjoy teaching the new guys at the gym as well. I’ll never be a pro but I fucking love coaching and it’s created a nice network of people around me that keep me going. I guarantee there’s a BJJ school or something near you so I’d do this.
