/kg/ Knife General
The Sharpest General on /k/ - Spooktober Edition

This thread is about the appreciation of knives and their design, their history, and the engineering and materials that are required to make a functioning blade.

"I want a knife recommendation."
Answer the following:
>Fixed or folding (or both (or neither))?
>Intended use/misuse?
>Blade length/girth?
>Local laws to ignore?
>You can afford this knife! Think of how much money you spend on food and water. Do you really need it? What about home heating? You can just turn it off and spend all that money on a knife! Do you really NEED to not freeze to death? Stop being a big baby, you can afford this knife!

>but, too big
big idea design Lookout is closer in size to what i want but chinesium and probably overpriced
>good size and shape
>good sheath
>but, chinese and not hollow ground
so, is there a happy medium i should buy, ideally:
>miusa or other 1st world place

>hollow ground

I'm looking for a folding knife for EDC, something thin and light. My previous was a Kizer Feist in titanium and I really liked it, but it disappeared in a move. I'm looking to spend maybe $50-60 but I'll look at anything up to $200 if it's interesting.

I'm on month 3 carrying my Guardian Tactical Scout. I like the aesthetics of the Ultratech gen 4 more, but the Scout is just a better knife in every way related to actual function, while being cheaper. At $275, it really is the best dollar for dollar otf I've ever bought. Better than Axial and Microtech. Strongly recommend the Scout for anyone thinking about an otf. Thanks for reading my blog.

Yeah I saw the link but the specific knife matters since they may not all be same oem. To be fair, idk how you thought you weren't getting a chinese knife at that price with those materials. It looks like that particular knife is made under Kansept's budget brand of knives. I'm not too familiar with Kansept's budget line, but they make great premium knives, and if it's anything like Civivi is to WE KNIFE, you haven't got anything to worry about.

Try to understand that China isn't always cheap because it's low quality, but because there are certain advantages they enjoy over other countries by being THE manufacturing powerhouse of earth. High-end CNC time is cheap as chips over there compared to just about anywhere; tools and parts are readily available wholesale and produced domestically. Materials are plentiful, also, almost all knife production happens in a single city (Yangjiang) known for knife manufacturing, which means there's a truly vast pool of workers experienced with the industry for any company to pull from who can just do the job, much different compared to say, shops that open up in random towns in the west. All these cost savings add up. I have high-end chinese knives in my collection, and they're just as good as my premium USA production knives. And when it comes to good budget knives, China (and Taiwan) give the most for the $$$.

That being said there ARE a lot of complete dog shit knives coming out of China, I've seen them, but that one does not seem to be one of them after some cursory research

Picrel some of my favs from China. atr design, Bestech OEM. Beautiful things.

Fire craft 3.5 is a wonky little knife. I got one in s30v and love it but the handle definitely isn’t for everyone. Out of your list I’d go Ursus cub. Handle is very comfortable, steel is great, and fit and finish is fantastic. White river is one of the best production knife makers in the business right now. Very confused by a site I found. They sell basically every kind of bladed weapon you can imagine, and they have I think if I did math right, around 2,500 items. I thought maybe it was just Temu reselling, and it could be, but the business is located outside of China (country code +9), they sell everything at "half off", the photos of their items aren't AI generated, and the same person or someone using the same camera took every single photo of every single item on the website. All of their photos are outdoors, same environment, and the hand isn't brown. Even weirder is that what little of landscape is in the photos appears like it could be Europe or America. I'm almost tempted to buy something off there because the items are cheap as dirt, which is why I am pretty sure they're from Temu. But the rest of it is just confusing.

Does anyone recognize the logo of the shirt this guy is wearing? I am thinking that this could just be a scam site, but all the photos being so similar is still throwing me off because it indicates there's another store that sells all the same stuff, but genuinely.

The number nine (9) is not a country code on its own, but is the first digit for country codes in Asia and the Middle East, such as +91 for India and +92 for Pakistan. In some regions, a plus sign and a single digit might be part of an international calling format, such as the +1 prefix for North America.

If you look at knives throughout history that were intended for personal defense, virtually all had an enormous guard or bolster that made it 100% impossible to slip onto the blade. I think that speaks volumes, more than any modern expert possibly could. I mean the whole prospect of using a knife for self defense is debatable but if you were going to, you'd want something that looks like this.
