The Rambo movies are pro-military. They are not necessarily anti-establishment. They are about how the soldiers returning from Vietnam were treated by their government and by the citizens. The government abandoned them, many of the soldiers became homeless, broke and addicts. A lot died from sickness that was caused by agent orange, which wasn't acknowledged by the government until 1991. The anti-war hippies would spit on soldiers returning. They called them baby killers. The veterans couldn't get jobs and faced discrimination. All because they were drafted to fight a war for their country.
Rambo wasn't about hating the US and it wasn't pro-communist either. The movie set in Afghanistan was during the Soviet-Afghan war when the mujahideen were working with the CIA against the Soviet Union.
You have to understand that most military vets are patriots who love their country very much but don't love the politicians who send them to war. And they don't love the people who hate them for honorably serving their country. Veterans just want some respect and dignity, that's what Rambo is all about.
